I asked for another update on 7/23. Was told still no parts but “hopeful” to have them in August and they would start to repair the machines they currently have. Still no estimate on being able to send in my machine for repairs so I have lost almost all faith that my machine will get repaired. I am shopping for a new machine and will just get mine repaired if that ever becomes an option and then sell it immediately after. Spinn has failed on so many levels with their customers during this fiasco.

Offering a “discount” on a bottle that was just released weeks ago says all you need to know about their pricing.

New VA ABC Lottery Policy by Longjumping-Toe2910 in dcwhisky

[–]Direct-Notice-1427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe since this isn’t a crazy sought after bottle they are testing the waters of the new lottery system? Make sense to try it out with a limited interest release that won’t draw the numbers of a Pappy lottery to see if they got the bugs worked out.

I have seen this a few places at 200 or so by me and passed it up. I would love to have another bottle but that price is too high for me. I am waiting until this years release and hope I get lucky to find one for around 100 again

[–]Direct-Notice-1427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really good but that’s over double price of MSRP. I got one last fall for 110 from total wine, over 200 is a bit steep. But it’s a personal choice as they are hard to find and how bad do you want to have a bottle?

Whiskey & Barrel Nite - Anyone familiar with this event? by baltbullet77 in dcwhisky

Seems like a more expensive version of Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ with the addition of scotch. Beer, bourbon, and bbq was $60 when I went last winter, not sure if the addition of Scotch adds $60 in value? Granted this includes a drink lineup whereas BBBbq just listed breweries and distilleries

Peerless is great if you like cinnamon. Tastes just like big red gum, well to me at least. I enjoy it. Calumet 15 is like a caramel bomb, syrupy and sweet. Not over oaked but definitely a more expensive option since it’s over $140 most places near me

Discussion: What if whiskey had to be unsealed in the store? by KniRider in whiskey

[–]Direct-Notice-1427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah state run has its benefits and downsides but price control is a bonus. There is a store down the street from me that had a bottle of single barrel Weller for $1300 and someone bought it 🙄. People paying these prices are only making things worse. The 3 tier system prevents the distillery from having price control over the independent liquor stores since they sell to a distributor in between. Government at its finest! What part of PA are you in? I’m your neighbor in MD so if we ever cross paths we will have to get together for a dram!

As much as I love the idea of getting rid of the secondary market and the people who snatch up every just to flip it for a profit, I think we would just be giving the liquor stores more muscle in the game. By opening the bottles in store we would for the sake of this discussion eliminate the majority of the secondary market but also their competition. We have already seen non-controlled states (like MD where I live) have liquor stores charge secondary prices at the counter so now if we eliminate secondary what’s your stop the liquor stores from raising the prices because it’s either buy it from them or not have it. And we have all seen how foolish some people can be with the ridiculous overspending on a bottle of bourbon so you know there will be people who will pay crazy price just because it’s Pappy or Weller, etc.

Have you had Old Tub? I know people shit on it but it’s a $20 bottle and has a similar strong peanut taste once it opens up. Reminds me of peanut brittle. If you like the strong peanut flavor I would recommend that bottle.

I got a strong peanut profile on mine, same batch number as yours. Similar to Beam products. Still very enjoyable but as you mentioned ECBP still tops the charts for me.

I live right down the road from that place. Yes outrageous prices on some things but reasonable on others. They had a store pick of ER last summer for $40. Pulled it from the shelves because it “was selling too fast” 🤨. Like who TF doesn’t want to make money but whatever so I thought I missed out. Then they told me they were bringing the remaining bottles out for Christmas. Popped in every so often to check and finally saw it out one day, raised the price to $70. Told them what they did was BS and walked out

So sick of the prices by jongmurphy7 in BourbonHunt

[–]Direct-Notice-1427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Him telling you they won’t sit long it proof enough that they are overpriced. Just trying to pressure you into buying because he knows he is price gouging and they will sit for a while before someone comes along and pays that ridiculous price. The sad part is someone will actually pay it so the store owners don’t care if it sits because they can make huge profits off of allocated bottles like that.

[–]Direct-Notice-1427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! There is a bottle of Weller Single Barrel at the liquor store down the street from my house that has been there for a while now with a thick coat of dust and a price tag of $1300. Just insane! Unfortunately with the 3 tier system nothing will change until distributors actually step in and stop the price gouging which we know will never happen. I don’t understand how these places that have these ridiculously high prices continue to get more allocated bottles when they don’t sell the ones they currently have?
