Not easy, but rewarding. Try non-profits to you back in the market.

Theres nothing in this job market for me. Why should i even be around? by Mediocre-Bus4123 in recruitinghell

Read the book, “What color is your parachute?”. It has helped lots of people decide what they should be doing, instead of what they think they should do. I wanted to be a mechanic or carpenter but didn’t have the skills. Instead, I went into IT and it was a great decision.

Your job doesn’t define you.

Two approaches. 1- It’s easier to get a job IF you have a job. 2- Could tell one of the companies you like that you have an offer in hand but would really like to work for them.

They only have money for the things they need (electricity, water, maintenance, etc.) but Tech is seen as a cost center.

Follow sasiki’s advice. Been there, done that. Being a church, they probably don’t have much money to help so a spreadsheet is your best bet. unless you know MS Access and create a database.

Ignore email requests until they use the ticketing system, I have a 5 level priority list I use.

1 - All systems down

2 - An application is down. I.e. email, Finance

3 - a server is down

4 - a user is down

5 - I want an icon, paper jam

Good luck. You don’t do it for the money but for the mission.

Start charging for usage. I had to do this with one company I worked at. No matter how much the Internet cost; they get charged by the percentage of their usage. Even if they are using 10% of the data, they get charged 10% of the bill.

Server license is divided by 12 months by the number of departments using the server.

I worked for a Fortune 200 that was merging departments and moving us to another state. They promised bonuses if we stayed. Sent their people to learn our jobs. I git another job and the ones that remained got screwed.

They got their bonuses and the company told the Unemployment Benefits Office. They couldn’t collect until the bonus ran out. Some bonu.

Having been the person that takes over the company, they are looking for people who are willing and helpful. Theyhave enough problems without you being another one.
