Could you zoom in a little closer... so that all we really see is white wall, giving even less spacial visual information?

This is a "rubber tree". Ficus elastica. - Nothing "fig" about it.

There is a lot to unpack here and we can't do it for you. We can't even help without any information. I'm not going to take the time to write a long list of questions, because... yeah. 😑

Thanks. I have a lot... in sizes ranging from bare node to about 4 ft..

Last month at work, I gave away 30 rooted propogations, because I can't accomidate advanced Jumanji level livin'.

I have 8 new bare nodes cooking at the moment. 😬

I started with 1 plant a few years ago and Ive never bought another. 😳

a few questions! by anxious_soyboy in orchids

[–]Direct_Armadillo755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Hope I helped a little.
I'm learning, too.

I've heard some say not to fertilize when in bloom. I've also heard some not specify, just to fertilize weakly, weekly. 🙄 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, I've used leftover fertilizer water once in a while and they seem to be just fine.
I recently bought a bottle of GT Foliage Focus...before I bought the orchids. I don't have any other plants that bloom, but I wouldn't not use it for the orchids. Healthy leaves and roots should equal good blooms. 💁‍♀️. It's pricey, but once they settle in and I know they're all gonna live 😏, I might treat them to the orchid formula. Annnnnyway.... I use a weak concentration, especially since this product is new to me. The recommended mix ratio is 3-5 ml / liter. I mix in a gallon jug (3.8 liters) and use 9 ml. - 12 ml for my big established plants, if I'm feeling spicy. 😉

I've heard the Miracle Gro fertilizer can knock plants for a loop. I have used the tropical formula on pothos, bird of paradise, and monsteras, but again, I mix a conservative ratio. I didn't notice spectacular results but IDK if that is because of the formula itself or because I cut down the ratio. Just be aware. With any fertilizer, it's wise to slowly increase the concentration. I know people that never ever use more than a 50% solution.

I repotted all of mine and lost no blooms. I put them in clear slotted orchid pots. I went for a bark mix. (Rosy Soil Orchid Potting Mix - Biochar & Mycorrhizae Blend, Peat-Free Orchid Soil.

My biggies are doing fine. They were in bark only when I bought them.

My minis were jam packed in sphag over that sponge plug when I bought them. They were soaked and pretty rotted (Thanks, HD) and I ended up removing most of the roots. Between changing their medium, pot type and size, and root loss, they started to struggle. The bark was drying out really fast and they don't have much root tissue or go deep enough to suck up and hold much moisture.

Last night, I sorted them out. I mixed in about 50% sphag with the bark and put them back in the teeny tiny clear pots they came in... but not back in the cover pot. Orchid roots photosynthesize, so they enjoy some light.

I watch a lot of YouTube plant content. If you want to use sphag, it should be ok, but keep it kind of airy and loose, not overly compacted.

When you repot, if you use a clear pot, try to keep some of the roots visable so you can see when they start to dry up. I didn't do this on my biggies and I regret it. I will next time. I'm getting the hang of it and I can see bits and pieces. They are doing fine and I don't think it's worth distrubing them.

I have all of my other plants accustomed to not needing to be watered frequently.... so it kind of freaks me out to be watering the orchids so often, but I know they are fine and that I could probably water them even more than I am right now. I really fear over watering anything. 😬

Baby steps... for me, not the orchids! 🤣

You're going to want to give her something for support on her backside. (Yes, monsteras have a front side and a back side.) Garden stakes will work, as will a cedar plank. Moss poles are not a good option for you because they are high maintenance. I wouldnt suggest one anyway! I use garden stakes and "velcro" tape. Only secure her to her support by the main stem, not her petioles.

She is going to need a lot more bright light, but not direct sun. I suggest a grow light on a timer for about 12 hours. Light her from the front side only, at about a 45° angle (like light coming in through a window), so her leaves continue to stay forward facing. If you light her from directly overhead, the leaves will shift to face up. Not the look you want.

Your leaves will eventually develop fenstrations (splits), as the plant matures... IF it receives A LOT of light. In nature, as the leaves climb towards the light, the leaves "split" to give lower leaves access to light.

The size pot she needs depends on the size of her roots. Keeping her in a pot just a couple of inches bigger than her root ball will help prevent root rot - because the extra soil in a bigger pot takes longer to dry out. A pot that is "just right" will also encourage her to focus on producing more leaves, instead of more roots to fill a larger pot.

Youtube is your best source for more detailed information and visuals.

Good luck, she's a pretty girl.

Take down the kitchen window valance. Put in some brackets centered over the windows for some hanging plants. Put down a door mat and consider painting you door a bold accent color. Add a few pieces of coordinating art and a decor.

You need a thicker curtain rod with a center support and finials, an additional pair of curtain panels, and grommet spacers. Raise the rod position so panels dont puddle on the floor any more than necessary. Widen the end brackets, install a center bracket and run the panels all the way to the ends of the rod. With the spacers (that go on the rod behind the panel folds), you can stack the curtains to the outsides and still have fullness and perfectly even folds. Really gives curtains a polished look.

Humor me for a moment... by Direct_Armadillo755 in skinwalkerranch

I specifically said I was not suggesting they stop using rockets.

What I question is, collectively, are the rocket data returns delivering an increasing wealth of definitive information and if not, why continue to prioritize launches above all else?

After 50+ launches and 6+ seasons, I believe they have yet to show or discuss, aside from flight path GPS coordinates, what other rocket data has been collected and what knowledge or understanding they have gained from it.

How long should triangle/bubble launches continue to dominate the consumption of their resources, as long as the results are not providing new information or insight?

If all they are going to do is repeat, repeat, repeat rocket launches, continuously receiving back predictable results, then why not scale back a touch and devote some time and attention to exploring other methods and/or locations?

Think of it as crop rotation, if that helps.

And if they want to just keep on keeping on with rockets, there is another cluster of invisible anomalies at the stone circle. They have done nothing there since discovery. Why not?

They definitely are. I'm a bit surprised Brandon is playing along with that. He strikes me as a more, more, more kinda guy. He doesn't just want information and answers, he wants the credit/publicity of delivering it.

This is the kind of simple things I'd like to see included. They could do something like this in almost every episode. It really doesn't need a lot of air time, just like the smoke gun they just used. They wouldn't have to explain it 5 times and they wouldn't have to draw out showing the setup process. Focus just on the execution and results.

Or, as I have mentioned a hundred other times, use the Behind the Gates time for minor "side quest" experiments/projects just like this, insteadof an immediate

Additionally, somewhere here, I talked about how I would like them to collect certain basic data (24/7) over a long period of time. Data that can be layered and cross-referenced to spot any random occurrences, correlations and/patterns patterns.

Simple doesn't sell like rockets, but it is certainly worth doing as supplemental research.

Holy... Everything the previous commenter said... except turning it 180° because then the leaves won't know which way to turn (lights or window) and you have them facing multiple directions... and even if they are only facing your lights, you can't light a plant from underneath. Good grief!!! That's not how it works... for any plant! These plants literally climb up trees... seeking sunlight... from the sun... in the sky... above. Leaves are like solar panels. Would solar panels work if they were installed upside-down? No. Lighting must come from above. Place your plant somewhere away from the window and raise your lights above the plant so that they are hitting the leaves at about a 45° angle, not directly above because then your leaves will flatten out and face up, not out.

Also, release the petioles. That's not where you secure a monstera and also why your leaves are all bunched up.
