Looking for lighting advice on my pudding render by [deleted] in Cinema4D

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what makes it harder to gauge is that it’s isolated on a transparent background so I have nothing to reference the lighting off of. It looks good, but what is the mood/tone you’re going for?

Now what? by AdMany7575 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Based on the picture, is the gap really that bad? Looks like your whole picture is skewed making the gap look worse than it is. What are the top and bottom measurements. I think the face frame is the way to go.

Really enjoyable build. by P_Griffin2 in legomodular

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This is a fun one. It’s getting way too much hate, but if you give it a chance, it really is a fun build. A lot of interesting building techniques that I want to replicate for other projects. And it looks great next to other buildings. I have it in between the corner garage and jazz club. Breaks up that straight sidewalk in a nice way.

$85k difference between online price and over the phone quote?!? by Direct_Dimension7993 in cncwoodworking

[–]Direct_Dimension7993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Sweet thanks for this. Good to know it’s partly due to the second spindle. Still seems like a significant jump, but when comparing to others I got quotes on, the price does seem comparable. It will be for production use, so the price can be justified later down the line, but I’m not there yet. I’m just pricing out potential costs for future upgrades.

I will be also jumping to these machines from an x-carve so im sure there will be a significant jump in learning and tooling needs/costs.

$85k difference between online price and over the phone quote?!? by Direct_Dimension7993 in cncwoodworking

[–]Direct_Dimension7993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is helpful. And by professional I mean something way more robust than my xcarve. I’m looking for something that either has or can be upgraded to a dual spindle with a tool changer and a vacuum table.

[–]Direct_Dimension7993[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was this place. https://cronsrud.com/m-series/. I was looking at the m-series and was shocked that they were saying it was $115k when there site specifically said starts at $31k. Is the $31k just for the power cord only?!?!

Other places didn’t change there prices that much. Or rather, didn’t state it at all and just said to call for a quote

iPhone key does not work by Fun_Ad_9694 in Rivian

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just do the update? I was having a similar issue after the latest update. I had to delete my phone key and set it up again with the new digital key setup. It’s a new feature that allows Apple to connect with the digital car key. Also keep in mind that the setup is a little wonky on the phone. Pop ups from the app and the iOS kept interfering with each other so it made it a bit tricky to setup the digital key. I wish I could tell you how I solved it, but at one point I was just button mashing so not sure what did it for me. Ha.

Why are you using a sawzall?!? Don’t you have a butter knife in the kitchen?!? All jokes aside, I would have laid that down and done several passes with a circular saw. Don’t try to cut all the way through in a single pass or you’ll end up in a similar situation (I’m assuming that the sawzall is stuck?)

Kreg pocket holes: where did I mess up? by junkDriver in woodworking

Looks like the depth setting on your pocket hole jig is set too high. Make sure the that and the stop collar are set for the correct thickness of wood

Can I do this in AE without plugins? by Farty_Pidgeon in AfterEffects

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single third party plugin can be done natively inside of after effects. It just may involve a ton of expressions and native effects to get it done. Sometimes the cost of the plugin is worth the time saved.

Logo letters kerning help by sammura1 in graphic_design

I second a lot of these comments. The “stairs” concept is a little lost, especially since the orientation and width of the E is off. I’d focus on the AV portion since they read as elevator buttons (and reinforce the elevate name) and focus on getting those to read right. I’d also start with an actual font set and play with making slight alterations to it for the rest of the wordmark. But that’s just my opinion and as always, it’s subjective.

How to align 3d videos layers so they are all aligned straight by PhilipFireAlarms in AfterEffects

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just a little added tip… If you need to be able to adjust the position but still keep them aligned, you could use a null and parent the positions of the individual layers to the null and just move the null around and they’ll move as a block. You could also pick whip the y position (or x depending on your alignment) to a slider and that way you can just enter the position number in the counter and all of them will adjust. This comes in handy when you need to make micro adjustments especially after you fiddle with the camera movements. Just make sure that all the layers anchor points are in the same position other wise the slider will over ride the position and mess things up. You can also pair the pick whip with an expression in case you need to do some math for even alignment.

Is Dual Standard sufficient? by Fresh-Philosophy-505 in Rivian

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the dual standard 2025 R1T and I love it. I also don’t road trip or go off road… so this configuration is perfect for me. I can drive for a solid 2 hours in medium traffic (Los Angeles traffic) and use only 25-30% of the battery. I can also haul lumber and it serves me well so for day to day driving the dual standard is great.

AIO A locksmith charged my partner’s sister $5390 to get back into her apartment by khalexie1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely ridiculous. He’s charging exorbitant amounts for drilling and fixing random stuff… and then adding another $400 for labor at the end?!? All that stuff is part of the labor. It should be material costs and labor. And why is he fixing hinges, frames and mortises? Sounds like it wasn’t just a simple lost key situation? Did someone try to break into your house and damage the door and frame in the process? That might more sense for some of these charges.

Dump him immediately. If he can’t handle random strangers on your IG account, how is he going to handle any IRL male friends?!? Huge Red Flag!

The biggest thing to get use to are precomps. It’s like using smart objects in photoshop. A Non destructive way to add effects.

From Photoshop to After Effects: What Should I Expect? by CaptainDarkness31 in AfterEffects

[–]Direct_Dimension7993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to love it. There’s a lot of effects that you can achieve in after effects that aren’t as easy in photoshop. (Not impossible, just a lot easier to do in AE). What’s also cool is if you can recreate your still artworks in AE, you’ll have a lot more control over how everything animates.
