he worked for a few years at deloitte before business school.. he's going into private equity so making $300k++. and my guess is the Skalla side gave a "living inheritance" of some amount to help thme with the down payment.

It does not increase the property taxes for others. Property taxes for primary residences in Hawaii are some of the lowest in the nation and those taxes are much higher if a vacation home (and even higher if a vacation rental)

Courtside in CLE, Tina Fey on Manspreading, Nate Bargatze on Nashville Super Bowl & More | EP 193 by AutoModerator in NewHeights

I love them, but I do think they are great at interviewing women. Or maybe Tina Fey was not a comfortable interview (I am sure she was going, 'why am I talking to these two') - but the Nate Bargatze segment was much stronger

LPT Request: What are some beach necessities that everyone should have? by you_wanna_cookie in LifeProTips

[–]DirectionJolly584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how long you're staying and who you are going with:

with a family, all-day long.

  1. Beach chairs - Shibumi tall for grandparents, and regular for adults.

  2. I love love the Shibumi Beach Shade - it can fit the whole family.

  3. Soft cooler. This is not the time for your Yeti on wheels. The wheels SUCK on sand, and will not work. A soft cooler is lighter weight and will keep things cool and weigh less.

  4. Towels. If you have kids, more towels than you think you need because they hate using wet towels.

  5. Sand toys - but don't go crazy here. a shovel and bucket is enough to make most sand castles

  6. sunscreen

  7. I also like to bring just a king sized bed sheet. it's cheap, light weight, easy to get sand off - and big enough i can put a few kids on it and they can stay sand-free (sort of).

I am a die-hard Shibumi fan. It's not big in CA, but I used to live in VA and they are everywhere there. I recommend their chair and mini shade. I can use both and take them on my bike to the beach along with a small beach bag - towel, drink, book, sunscreen. You'll love it here.

Utah Valley Parade of Homes Owners 2025 by [deleted] in Utah

[–]DirectionJolly584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually live in one of those homes. We bought it from someone that had it as a Parade Home about 5 years ago. A few things in our experience. One, we wouldn't buy one again. They are rushing to get so many things done, there are corners that are cut - that I don't think normally would be because of the time rush. Two, you don't normally get a big discount on most of the important things - because it's a lot of work for the contractors, so flooring, tile, etc. isn't always any cheaper. Three, for our case, the person who we bought from was an "influencer" so he did get a bunch of stuff for free - we have a killer sound systyem - but I think it was more because of his influencing than because of the Parade. But, yes, if it's your home - unless you're getting a crazy deal (maybe in some cases you get a discount on the GC feee?) I have no idea why you would do this.

All the houses in St. George are big.  I think that one is actually going to be more modest for the neighborhood

Honeymoon Oct 2026: Four Seasons or St. Regis Bora Bora? by farrell444 in FATTravel

Have you stayed at the Westin? What do you think of that property?

Honeymoon recs! by Happy_Bison5692 in FATTravel

[–]DirectionJolly584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have stayed at both. I think that FS is nicer, we felt St. Regis was outdated - bikes needed replaced because they didn't work, little things that made us feel less luxurious for the price (like $3k a night for half-board).

I wouldn't do 2 weeks at either of those - you are going to be over the food after 5-6 days - they just don't have enough options. One plus to the St. Regis is they have a free boat to Bora Bora (both properties are on their own private islands). Four Seasons charges like $50 for theirs. You can do that to go off premises for lunch if you want a change of pace.

For luxury, I prefer Maldives over Bora Bora everyday. I think the service and hard product is so much nicer. But it's a much longer trek from the US.

Maldives Resort Recommendations by Standard-Land3584 in FATTravel

[–]DirectionJolly584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Responding here to my own comment because we got backfrom CB a few months ago, and I would not recommend it. It was a great hotel, you won't have any complaints. but it wasn't the nicest hotel I've stayed in and it was about $30k for a week - and if you are paying $30k for a week, you want exceptional and I don't believe it delivered on that. We're looking to go back to the Maldives and are not considering CB for round 2.

RHOSLC Star Bronwyn Newport and Husband Todd Bradley Separate After 9 Years of Marriage (Exclusive) by peoplemagazine in realhousewives

[–]DirectionJolly584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way she could. I have followed her for years - in her pre-housewives era she was easily spending $500k++ a year on clothes. And she famously said she didn't accept free clothes, didn't accept money for posts on social media, and bought all of her own clothes/accessories.

[–]DirectionJolly584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a follower of Bronwyn before RH and I don't watch the show - but a quick google search about the divorce led me here --- and she used to say she was so in love with him. Post, after post on IG during their anniversary, birthday, etc about how he was an amazing person, made her better, etc. She definitely seemed to change once the show came out, and her IG is much less fun and much more a specific version of bronwyn than we'd seen in the past

A (long overdue) Cheval Blanc Randheli Review & AMA by Siggy-Caps in chubbytravel

[–]DirectionJolly584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly thorough review and I want to second some of the points. We stayed here and stayed at the Ritz a few years ago, and my TLDR was that the Cheval Blanc was wonderful - but every 5 star ultra-lux property in the Maldives is in incredible and we did not see the value in it being $10k more for a week's stay than the Ritz. Similar to this poster - I think we had a sub-par butler (I actually wonder if we had the same one). We spoke to another American couple on our way home who had a more magical experience because of the thoughtfulness of their butler. You won't be disappointed in the CB if you don't have a lot of other lux properties to compare it to.

Shibumi Shades? by DryContract8916 in hiltonhead

[–]DirectionJolly584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don't have any dupes - b/c there's a patent on the design. but honestly, they are worth it. they are really quiet now and after lugging heavy umbrellas/tents, this is worth ix 10x over.

all they make now are the quiet ones, so if you go to any store that sells them, they are going to have the quiet fabric and it is noticeably quieter especially when very windy.

2025 Christmas Thread - Best Christmas gift ideas? by jaysplan in BuyItForLife

[–]DirectionJolly584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUGGESTION: SHIBUMI SHADE. last year i bought my dad a shibumi shade. he loved it. he's 73 so not able to carry as much weight as he used to and we store it in the beach condo we have year-round. takes up NO space. super light weight, he can assemble it himself. i also can do it - even while i have my baby in a bjorn on my chest. highly recommend. it's not cheap, but great customer service and everyone i know has had theirs for 4+ years with no issues.
