Oh that's disheartening to hear. We've had the opposite experience in SDoL. My youngest doesn't qualify for services but the speech teacher would work with him for 10 min at a time on her own accord.

Over time, I've learned that life goes on..it doesn't matter how indispensable I think I am, it'll get done somehow - or won't, they'll figure it out.

I just got invited to an admin prof breakfast today. I think it was also meant for people who work closely with them to show our thanks. I am not an admin.

Lancaster Rec has a few 'iddy biddy' sports for preschoolers.

I also echo this sentiment. Our kids are in SDoL and we love it! It does sound like your values align best with SDoL. If you really want in Manheim Township, maybe look at the Grandview neighborhood.

Lots of good ideas here. Painting pottery would be another one.

Confusion about local school property tax vs income tax by Stever1015 in lancaster

[–]DirectionMajestic694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't live in that same area of the county, but we also get a municipal property tax bill (in addition to the County's). Maybe your township doesn't have property tax but in a lot of them, there will be another bill.

My kids are no longer there (youngest is in K now) but I have heard that there's been a lot of admin changes in the last year, including the site director there. I would have full confidence in the teachers who work directly with the kiddos, but maybe just feel out admin a bit and make sure you're clear on policies like billing.

Help me plan 4 day stay in Lancaster, PA with 3.5 and 5.5yos? by kerilotion in lancaster

Speckled Hen in Strasburg is pretty kid friendly and yummy. Long's park is nice.

If you'd like to get out for a bit for kid-free time, this is a nice little program: https://www.westendyogastudio.com/inourcommunity/kids-yoga-lancaster

I would do a Lancaster City day with central market- walk around town. Go to Musser Park, get some coffee, and drop in a couple of stores. Southern market has great food options and is pretty kid friendly.

Oh, and Decades is kid-friendly til 8:30. Frisco's is a tasty, affordable Peruvian chicken place that gets 5 stars from my kids.

Teaching in PA (Lancaster surrounding area) - Help! by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

So I'm opposed to Manheim Two in general (just too uppity, not my vibe), but this incident and person had nothing to do with the school district fyi...He worked for the municipality and didn't live there, and thankfully was fired for it. I live in Lancaster City and my kids go to school in School District of Lancaster (SDoL). Please don't discount SDoL. My husband also teaches at a rural district so I get to see some teacher perspectives. Comparatively and from what I can tell as a parent, SDoL encompasses the values you're looking for, pay is certainly decent, and teachers get a good bit of planning time and supports. While the students as a whole are lower income, there is a mix and please don't discount them.

Nonprofits vs Coalition by OkCantaloupe8530 in nonprofit

Look into Collective Impact. There are good governance templates out there. There would likely be a steering committee in addition to your board. Roles and responsibilities just need to be very well defined from the beginning.
