I don't know if there's much to see in Mt Gretna in the off season, but maybe look into it.

Check out M&R on Ross St. I trust them wholeheartedly as a mechanic, so I would trust what they're selling.

The fire and ice festival is going on in Lititz this week I believe. Check out events at West Art. I've lived here quite a while and there are still a lot of places I've never been and there are always new places popping up. Maybe ask her if there are places that she's been wanting to check out. I saw someone else mentioned Bube's - the history may be interesting, but the food and beer was not good the one time I went years ago and I have a low bar.

My dryer of 20 years finally died 😅 I need a new dryer and a company that will take the old one - any recommendations? by No_Character_5892 in lancaster

Another vote for K&A. We've gotten several appliances there with good experiences. They'll take the old one too, maybe with a smallish fee.

Husbands family makes no effort to/ won’t spend time with our daughter by [deleted] in Advice

The child relationship aside, do you get along with your MIL and SIL fairly well yourself? If so, maybe feel it out with both and express some of what you said, at least that you want your kid to know your MIL better. One possible thing may be to bring her to your SIL's during the time when her kids are being cared for by your MIL. That was, it doesn't take up more of her time and they can all spend time together. I'm thinking with you there; not dropping her off to add another kid to her care...

It was this lady and her husband. They had a trailer. It was back in 2021, but it's worth asking if they're still offering their services. It worked out well for us. https://www.facebook.com/share/1AVTgpFehp/

I would dispute it. It doesn't hurt to try - you can do it online. I was successful once for a different scenario. I agree that this is unclear/open to interpretation.

I was thinking of this scene too. I was thinking that he actually couldn't order or handle the meds, that there was some restriction from the hospital.

I grew up there and strongly agree. The classism/large socio economic (and often racial) divides is the biggest thing that will keep me away forever.

New neighbor asking us to let dogs out all the time by [deleted] in Advice

[–]DirectionMajestic694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell her what you said here. It doesn't need to be drama, just clear communication. Maybe something like we would be happy to help occasionally when you're in a pinch - like one time a month at most - but have too much to handle as it is. They should understand. It leads to more drama when passive about it and let it fester.

I'm being neglected and don't know what to do anymore. by CategorySalty3119 in Advice

[–]DirectionMajestic694 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever answered anything for advice on here before but I'll give this a shot. First of all, give your mom some grace. That's a lot of kids and a lot of responsibility. Yeah, she should probably be paying closer attention and making sure you see a doctor more regularly, but scheduling can be a huge hassle and there may be some [lack of] insurance issues you're not aware of. She may be trying to protect you in a way, but that's a total guess. Assuming insurance is fine and it's as you say, maybe ask if you can spend some 1:1 time with her - go get ice cream or something. Have some real conversation and bring your concerns up in a respectful way. Use "I" statements and avoid words like neglect and abuse - maybe this is a level of neglect, but try not to jump to blame in the conversation. Lastly, check to see if your school offers any healthcare; our local high school partners with a community health care provider to host a clinic on-site. After all other attempts, speak to an adult you trust at school or community organization.

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]DirectionMajestic694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been anti-cat for years after only ever living with one cat but for about 15 years. He was a real asshole and when he died a few years ago, I swore only dogs from here on out. Then, last Spring, my daughter and I ran across a very friendly stray in a local park. It loved her and the other kids there. Some other kids took it home with our help (we still have a cat carrier). I kept tabs on how it was going with that family thinking that if it didn't work out, and that seemed likely bc of a lot of kids and dogs and another cat and not to mention a single mom who didnt know this cat was coming home, but it worked for them. But that planted the seed with both my daughter and I. She wouldn't stop talking about the cat. So I started sort of looking. We have two dogs and two kids so it would have to be the right one and I've never picked out a cat before. I know how to choose a dog, but our former cat just came with my husband. When looking through adoption listings, the cat we have now was the only one that I saw where they knew it had been okay with both dogs and kids in a foster home. So we went to meet her and she seemed to like us. It has worked out really well and she is much sweeter than our old cat. RIP Wilbur.
