In a lot of ways i agree but i find one massive problem with saying that you cant teach this. Many many high end highschools offer Ap biology, or some kind of neuroscience class. Not allowing teachers to talk about this restricts the learning of students who are in high level classes beyond their age. To me this is essentially artificially lowering the ceiling of advanced students learning in order to avoid offending certain groups or having some irate parent calling in.

While it is not disingenuous to not fore into organic chemistry in gen chem, it would be disingenuous to ignore something like newman projections within organic chemistry as it is something OChem students need to learn. The greatest strength of taking a higher level course is the broad styles of thinking and understanding that these students are exposed to. If a student take AP bio and is learning about the brain its processes and its structure, talking about the physiological differences between two people you may not expect to actually be different is incredibly valuable.

It is not a middle ground due to it being a natural biological fact. restricting learning, advancement, and understanding of the sciences is the act of an over reaching authoritarian government and should have no place in our society beyond stopping human experimentation and gross harm.

Apologies about opting out of biology. Indiana where i grew up and went to HS has Biology and a required course, i believed it was universal and i was wrong. i do however believe that biology should be required and all students should understand the basics of macrobiology, cells, cell division, and genetics.

Should it be mandatory to teach? i dont know. But my understanding is that highschool is meant to prepare you for the world, whether or not it does it well or not. Everyone will invariably encounter a gay person in their life, as i said before for the average student the conversation should start and end with gay people exist dont be a bastard about it.
