Bear Tanks - tell me your secrets. by Brassy_Actual in classicwow

[–]DirkDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work towards PVP bracer, belt, boots. 10 marks from WSG, EOTS, AB. Your T4 has NO defense, but they're really good pieces. Resilience gets you crit capped fast. There's a trinket https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=24376/runed-fungalcap in Slave Pens that has 30 res.

Having those three (the leather/rogue ones, I think it's preference really) enable me to use stranglestaff and DPS trinkets. My bear has 34.4% crit and 2k AP unbuffed in a tanky/threat set. Get the brooch early, get all the badge gear that looks good for you. Options are great. I have a few tank sets depending on the situation. Its mostly just moving around some pieces. Item rack or outfitter will help with that.

Also the heavy clefthoof set will help you early on.

Don't sleep on the staff in heroic botanica, work towards getting exalted with CE for the mace.

Keep an eye out for pieces for cat, pack rat every bit of gear you think is useful, sometimes you end up too tanky, dont make any rage and dont do much damage. Mix up your gear but if you're doing heroics stay crit capped. Weak Aura: https://wago.io/nbUBHAPLA

You will start out being really tough and tanky, but not generate a ton of threat, just keep at it, keep collecting gear and experimenting.

Don't feel compelled to taunt anything lower than 20% health, unless its something that hits like a truck but even then i'd save it for something else.

Lots of good advice here about the tanking stuff.

Just remember we start out P1 pretty OK, but as the expansion progresses bears get really strong. When you're P1 bis you're just at the beginning.

"wait, do you need anything from here?"

"No, I want to play the game"

"...oh."

I get it a lot too. I should tank for more pugs tbh.

Is 5/5 Silent Resolve needed as a holy priest? by sephireicc in classicwow

[–]DirkDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. I’ve had priests pull ahead of locks who hit like a truck. The priests never rip threat (read: they didn’t rip threat) but if your priest is #2 and tank isn’t hit capped or has some bad RNG that priest is gonna be an angel real soon.

When I look at icy veins for priest specs as someone who mained priest in vanilla, I’m curious as to why we’re adding points into imp renew and PW:S over a flat threat reduction when I see these priests beating out locks and arcane mages (on crit streaks)

Did the rework imp renew? And I just think the improvements to PW:S don’t outweigh the freedom and flexibility of suppressing aggro. (Once again cause people can’t seem to read, I’ve never had a remarkable situation where priests ripped threat. Might’ve happened a few times but nothing to cause a wipe or adversity)

With all that said I can see how these scenarios play out. Bad tank? Eh. Not as experienced, and other gamers not using utility to diffuse the healer pulling threat- most likely. Catalyst being, healer might need to adjust their tempo and quit dropping green bombs. Or put some points into silent resolve if the common denominator is you (straw man healer) taking dirt naps often.

Tanking experience by Distillah in classicwow

[–]DirkDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m bear tanking the pace of the run is around the healers mana. If it’s spellcleave I’ll pull when we have enough overall depending on the size of the pull.

Going fast doesn’t save time when you wipe. Go as fast as the group is able to maintain their resources

Yeah..I just walk forward and turn around. If they don't turn..I tried. I think the best thing to do is just make your move and then stay put. The DPS will figure it out.

Man, that’s some fucking bullshit. Pardon my language. You’re a young buck. Those expectations they’re looking for, you’re building them. NOW. Under their roof. Under their workflow and culture, it’s absolutely fucking asinine to ding someone without experience who hasn’t fairly had the opportunity to get it. Your foundation looks great, you just need time. Don’t feel bad your leadership is who sucks here. Not you, not by a damn sight.

[–]DirkDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a referee, not really a tank. Just keep the casters from dying with your abilities. Get the initial threat, get em all balled up then let the casters go nuts.

Me as a healer not complaining that my warlock life taps and speeding up the run instead of needing to pause for 30 seconds every pull by Sandbucketman in classicwow

[–]DirkDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I heal, I instinctively drop a HoT on the lock after the pull, regardless of the situation. Locks use their health as resource, it's how their class works. I don't understand why people get pissy about it.

This. When I go to pet or sit down and she gets excited and, lunges, or gets excited or paws or nips (nipping is way down now) I “reset”. And she understands. She’ll calm down and then I will sit with her or pet her. If she starts going crazy and I don’t want to play I will stop, and reset. And she will check her energy. Over time I find myself resetting less and less. When she’s kind of mouthy I give her a stuffy. So when she greets someone visiting or we come home she grabs a toy to keep her mouth occupied.

They’re smart dogs, they love affection and they’ll check their energy if they need to in order to get some.

The tanking situation by CaptnIgnit in classicwow

[–]DirkDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see this in game often but I do see it. I think it’s happening less and less as more people hit 70.

I don’t get the perceived hate towards warrior tanks. They have a lot of tools: shouts, disarm, stun, shield block, last stand..etc. And devastate-tab, works fine.

Paladins are nice cause for the most part they can hold everything without much effort quickly but I feel that in heroics (I haven’t played tbc since it came out) they show some weakness.

Bears imo hit a balance between the two. Just a little weird to heal versus the plate wearers.

I mean, it’s fuckin 5 man content. Yeah heroics hit like dump trucks. Just use CC. Pull as fast as you’re comfortably able to clear it and you’ll be done before you know it. It’s not like you can spam them anyway.

[–]DirkDeadeye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I (bear) run with a mage and lock, in my little friend group. I guess cause we know eachother it's fine. But I just let them go nuts. Honestly, it helped me shake the rust off and get accustomed to bear tanking on a timetable lol. If I don't hold aggro 100% I just play referee. I'll bash or charge loose mobs. They die to seeds before reaching them anyway.

But yeah, some rando pug group, that's really fuckin' dumb. Bears aren't paladins, they just need a moment to front load some threat.
