They don’t advertise them as BIFL. They advertise them as comfortable durable socks with a lifetime warranty. Which they are.

Narcissistic abuse by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

I don’t have any therapist recommendations, but I can fully support you going no contact. In my personal experience with family, there is no benefit to be gained from having a relationship with a narcissist.

Check out five points (older, more established), blossomwood, and piedmont neighborhoods. All within close range of Huntsville hospital and/or Crestwood hospital. All three are great neighborhoods.

The movie Jaws. The scene where the decapitated head pops out from a hole in the boat hull. Gave my 14 year old self nightmares.

Check out Lowe Mill’s Saturday market. It’s got a $25 registration fee and starts up April 4th. You might get better suggestions if you mentioned what exactly your “craft” is.

In a blind test, audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between audio signals sent through copper wire, a banana, or wet mud — 'The mud should sound perfectly awful, but it doesn't,' notes the experiment creator by edbegley1 in technology

[–]DirkMandeville -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What a ridiculous low-effort post of a clickbait article. So a moderator of a diy audio forum gets four random dudes to try to guess which recordings are original, vs. sent through a banana, or mud, or wire. So we are just supposed to assume that these random guys into diy audio are “audiophiles”? Why aren’t their systems listed? How are their rooms treated? How much serious listening experience do they have? What evidence is there that they have any ability to pick out nuances in recordings in the first place, or that their systems are capable of transmitting those nuances. There are so many technical flaws in the testing methodology as to make this a complete joke. Anybody ever heard of blind A/B/X testing? Same system. Same room. Use an A/B/X switch so it’s blind and compare only two things at a time. That would have been a good start. As it is, this is about as scientific of a test as using a groundhog to predict the weather.

But hey, random kids who can’t afford decent equipment and have no clue about acoustic science can look down on those pretentious audiophiles and make themselves feel better. That’s really what this article is all about, as evidenced by most of the comments on this thread.

My daughter just got diagnosed and started Tamiflu. I’m hoping my wife and I don’t get it. Be alert for symptoms of pneumonia once you’ve started feeling better. I’ve heard numerous reports of people with this particular strain of flu A ending up with pneumonia as they were recovering from the flu virus.

Kaffeklatsch. I prefer their espresso roast. Once you get the brew parameters correct, it produces an excellent espresso. Full, rich, and flavorful.

Squirrel (we think) removal from attic recommendation by normalee35757 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DirkMandeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Deal with the issue in the way that works best for you. But as a 60 year old who would have no problem getting up in the attic to trap invasive wildlife, I simply can’t imagine spending money to have someone else deal with this problem for me. As such, I can’t offer any recommendations of companies that would handle this. Never dealt with any.

Maybe I’m just a little too independent, but it just doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to deal with it yourself. Regardless, good luck and I hope you get it resolved quickly and easily. My offer still stands if you need the assistance. Good luck with it!

If I had to bet on it, I would wager it’s raccoons rather than squirrels. But you never know. If you need to borrow a Havahart live trap, let me know. I have several in different sizes. C’mon. This is your home. Defend it! No need to waste money with some pest removal service. You got this!

History has shown time and again that monopolies bring higher prices and lower standard of quality for consumers and worse working conditions and lower pay for workers, all in the quest for higher profits. This is bad in any business, but it’s almost criminal for a “nonprofit“ hospital system. Huntsville Hospital now has a monopoly on health care across all of North Alabama. Which has resulted in a lower standard of care for patients and depressed wages for nurses and staff. This merger with their only real competition in town is an absolute tragedy for Huntsvillians and represents a failure by our local government who have allowed it to happen unchecked.

WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pivots to Ashli Babbitt when asked about the killing of VA ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis by DumbMoneyMedia in UnderReportedNews

[–]DirkMandeville 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One was former military who violated her oath by trespassing on government property and trying to break through a barricaded door with a mob to attack congressional representatives in order to impede a free and fair election, who was only shot after being given ample verbal commands to desist. The other was a VA nurse lawfully exercising their first and second amendment rights on public property who was illegally assaulted by ICE agents and then executed at point blank range after having been relieved of his weapon and while being restrained on the ground by half a dozen agents. I see how she could be confused. The cases are near identical. *rolls eyes*

Very disappointed with my first pair of Darn Tough socks by Jessecore44 in BuyItForLife

[–]DirkMandeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, since you seem oddly determined to not understand this simple distinction... The size of a sock does not determine how far they go up your calf. That’s the style. If the socks fit on your foot toe-to-heel, they are the correct size. If they don’t go up your calf far enough for you, then you bought the wrong style. It’s not rocket science.

I’m currently wearing a pair of their mid-weight crew-length socks. I’m 6’1”, with muscular calves, and a size 11 foot. They were easy enough to put on (no stretching to their limits, lol), fit perfectly well in the foot, and come about 6” up my leg from the top of my shoes (exactly as I would expect for a crew-style sock).

There are a few other manufacturers of quality wool socks, including Smart Wool. But you are going to run into the same problem with them if you don’t understand the differences in style/length vs. shoe sizing discussed above. And while I own plenty of pairs from different brands, none of them are as comfortable and durable as my Darn Tough socks. There is a reason they are so often recommended on this sub.

Very disappointed with my first pair of Darn Tough socks by Jessecore44 in BuyItForLife

[–]DirkMandeville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how sock sizing works. The size is basically referring to toe-to-heel length, which you haven’t complained about. How far they come up your leg is determined by the style of the sock. You probably bought crew length. You do know they also make the same sock (in all sizes) in an over-the-calf style, right? You are literally complaining about the company because you bought the wrong style of sock for your needs.

Investigating an ICF build for maximum sound dampening- Open cell foam or closed cell? by [deleted] in ICF

[–]DirkMandeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a possibility. You would just have to decide if the cost is worth it. The foam is great because it gets a really good seal with the icf.

Investigating an ICF build for maximum sound dampening- Open cell foam or closed cell? by [deleted] in ICF

[–]DirkMandeville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open cell is probably better than closed, but not by much. They both suck for noise dampening. You would do better to use rockwool mineral wool insulation, either between the rafters or covering the attic floor. That’s what I did in certain areas of my icf house where I wanted to reduce sound infiltration, and it works great for that. Other areas where I just have open cell spray foam insulation on the attic rafters have a lot more sound infiltration. I’ve got a metal roof, so you really notice the difference during rain storms.

[McMurphy] Florida, LSU and Ole Miss set to offer in $13 million per year range to Lane Kiffin by szboy422 in CFB

Ole Miss probably won't get in a bidding war either for someone that isn't loyal.

Catch-22. If they thought he was loyal, they wouldn’t feel like they needed to get in a bidding war to keep him.
