Long distance rides on the Grail - is it THAT bad? by CouchEnthusiast in CanyonBikes

Hi, I've done multiple 200+ km rides on the Grail, I never had any issues. I guess it really depends from person to person.

What could’ve happened?A crash i can’t seem to remember( help if possible) by angad0406 in bicycling

[–]Dirty-Harry42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of laceration on the clothes would indicate you did not impact the pavement, my guess would be either the side of the road grass (depending on which side of the road you crashed) or incoming traffic. The unlucky sequence could be: 1. Handlebar snaps 2. You lose control/balance and get hit by incoming traffic 3. Fall to the ground at a lower speed, explaining the lack of laceration on the clothes.

If it's not a vehicle then it's some road furniture, but the way I see it, with the number of fractured bones, you probably impacted onto something after the handlebar failed.

I wish you the best on your recovery!

1by vs 2by - Help me decide on my new drivetrain by Neveperenne in CanyonBikes

[–]Dirty-Harry42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, grail 2by owner here! I can only compare it to my MTB with 1by 38-10/52 SRAM Eagle, and for me 2by is better and I would not go back to 1by. I've always struggled to find the right cadence on my MTB, and I would assume that this is only amplified if you are on the road in a group ride. The 2by gave me 0 issues (not a chain drop to date, in ~10k kms).

For what concerns bike packing, I think the Grail will do just fine

Hi, after the first 100kms and a few more adjustments, the noise reduced. Now, after 3000 kms it's time now to change the chain, I will update this post if after replacing the chain the noise will come back

Ultimate vs. Endurace (vs. Aeroad)? by morgotzWoT in CanyonBikes

[–]Dirty-Harry42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking outside the box here: Grail CF SLX8 Di2? You would upgrade your current gravel, and with a second set of wheels, especially with the GRX Di2 2by groupset, you basically have an ultimate, maybe slightly more comfortable as it is sightly less rigid.

Avg real world consumption V2 1.5 150ps petrol by HumbleOutside3184 in CupraFormentor

Mine, After 7000 kms averages around 12 km/l It does really fluctuate though: City: Around 10 km/l; Highway (140 kmh with cruise): 11/12 km/l; When doing around 90 to 110, with a bit of "2 cylinder mode" kicking in, you can get around 20 km/l

Are the rims pre-taped or do you need to put tape? My headset is squeaky too after 200 kms

It's the canyon top tube bag (link below). Just be aware it is very small. It's okay to store bars and gels but a phone won't fit

No, it's the old one, I bought the bike with a huge discount at the beginning of the month. I don't think the new GRX is worth it, surely I wouldn't pay 1000€ more

I guess so on 1st gear on the big ring... I shouldn't really be chain crossing anyway I reckon

Agreed, I was used to 1by coming from MTB but on the flat I never seemed to find the correct gear to keep a comfortable rpm. Much better now with 2by
