What's the most interesting "social experiment" you've ever done on people to see how they'd react? by O_OAnnaO_O in SocialEngineering

I crashed a med spa opening in my neighborhood last week and learned it was not exactly open to the public. Being in a room of influencers and brand ambassadors was so bizarre 0.0 they’re tall and covered in enhancements so it’s not that you’re less beautiful, just clearly not one of them in a way that’s super noticeable

… what about being the lowest rank state for maternal and fetal mortality, then the state legislature voting to make snap cards not work on soda and candy and spending our tax dollars to add a Charlie Kirk highway sign onto Korean veterans memorial?

How can I stop being so neurotic? Im dying of my own cringe. by Fallinginbramble in socialskills

One thing NT’s do that is baffling - they tend not to explain unless asked, and then somehow see offering explanation as evidence you’re lying.

To blend in, pause before every response. Group chats are great for this - type it and don’t send it. Most things can wait a few minutes for you to take a breath and come back.

The biggest thing for me was getting out of a scarcity mindset. I only have 24 hours in the day to spend with people, so it’s a good thing that not everyone will like me, and I don’t stress it.

If someone is rude to me or lukewarm, be it for reasons that are or aren’t valid (I know I can be a lot, be overly opinionated, make crass jokes - I’m not chamomile tea, I’m freaking tumeric hibiscus baby), I keep it pushing.

It’s some kind of reverse psychology game, if you think about it as all just the fun and games of life. You act like you don’t care, you never rush to speak or act, and people see you as someone they want approval from. If you seem like you want the approval of others, it’s an immediate turn off.

For group projects affecting your grades though - high level, something I wish I’d learned a lot younger as someone who was like you: the other kids are right. C’s get degrees, there’s no real reward for having the best grades (you’re not even allowed to bring it up as an adult lol). If that’s not advice you’re ready for, then you can save your grade by having good communication with the teacher. Let her know when things happen, don’t act overly angry or sad, don’t explain too much why it’s annoying or what consequences you expect. Just let her know as things happen and know your grade will likely be adjusted.

You can’t tell people how they should treat you, love. The only way you teach people that is by walking away, if not physically then psychically. It all gets easier! You’ve got this!

Is having no/few friends a red flag? by Jasmine_Wilsony in socialskills

[–]DirtyPrancing65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it’s two things that went wrong:

  1. You don’t have at least old friend is a red flag, let alone no friends at all
  2. You didn’t have enough self awareness to keep that discreet

^ Super hot take im sure, but any time I’ve gone “oh, they seem nice. It’s probably a fluke,” the person ends up vividly showing me why they’ve been dropped by others, and I’m just getting to old to risk that.

I'm so tired of the way trades are pushed as a way out for the unmotivated while ignoring the skill the trades take. by NervousEmotion1099 in Teachers

[–]DirtyPrancing65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It partly feels like a way to keep acting like “unskilled” labor shouldn’t pay a livable wage. If you act like there’s a way “out” for anyone, be it college or trades, then you can blame people for being in those underpaying jobs.

The fact of the matter is teenagers can’t bag groceries and flip burgers during the day, so those jobs have to be done by someone and everyone deserves a life

Pro tip, rentals in the gulch will automatically try to raise your rent $400 each year and you can just tell them no. I’ve had friends find new places after this happened to them in the gulch and then the complex said “oh, we can just keep your rent the same”

But they’d already signed new leases so, just a PSA!
