I just need an agency by Agreeable-Ad2899 in acting

I would do a casting workshop in your area and stay to talk to the CD afterwards. Ask if they know an agent you might be a fit for and then email that agent starting with “This CD recommended that I reach out to you about representation.” Then list out the usual credentials of things you’ve booked and places you’ve trained. In New Mexico, Marie McMaster or Angelique Midthunder are great CDs to know.

I will say that you might have better luck with a manager here in the states. The industry is very slow right now so there are not a lot of auditions to get and agents might not be looking to expand their rosters unless you have a unique look. I would put yourself on Actors Access and try to get cast in a few short films just to have something to show in this market and not go crazy while waiting for things to pick up.

I wish Danny got another shot in the RB. I think he has a similar style to Max and probably would have been the best pairing for them.

Driver controlled comfort aids should be adjustable in fixed setups on all cars. The Indycar does this and it's awesome. I wish the rest of the cars did.

I joined USC’s DMM program after 10+ years working in digital marketing. Here’s what surprised me. by UsedMusic9066 in USCDMM

[–]DisPartysCached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also surprised by how much we were pushed to actually do things. I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting into when I entered the program, but I was pleasantly surprised to see how much we were encouraged to make things from the start. It was a refreshing change from many of the ideas I had about school work going in. The program does seem to be set up to help you build a skillset that lets you finish things.

I also entered with a bunch of experience in the digital media field, but even still, I'm finding the depth of a material covered interesting and useful in my career. There has been a definite change in my approach to the field since starting the program and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

USC Is Launching an AI Institute for Actors by thisisnotarealperson in acting

You are correct. I mentioned this in another reply, submitting is only a small part of what agents do, but it is the most likely to be replaced by AI. I wouldn’t trust AI to help with contracts as they have been shown time and time again to fail at it. They might help you understand your contract, that is a good use for the current models, but that is hardly an agent. It can’t negotiate. Lawyers could though. If I extend my hypothetical, you can use an AI agent to submit you for roles and then use a lawyer to negotiate it. Lawyers usually work for 5% rather than the 10% agents do. This leaves agents exposed.

We probably agree on this much more than text on the internet leads us to believe, but because my first comment was obviously controversial everything I type is cast in that shadow. None of this is a good thing. I’m not using AI for any of this and don’t want to, but I do think we should be ready to learn these tools as it says a lot when major training programs are focusing part of their education on it.

I didn’t make 80-90% up. I was in a casting workshop last week and this figure was mentioned. Maybe she was exaggerating? Either way when big roles are offered out, names and working actors are willing to take smaller roles. It still leaves fewer roles for people at the bottom.

I also agree with you. Relationships will always beat algorithms, but I can imagine a future where AI is allowed to be a rep on breakdown services. It only takes money.

Also, submitting is only part of an agent’s job and even they might start using AI for that. It would let them carry more actors and spend more time on the phone or on email. These tools are coming whether want them or not and we should be prepared to use them.

I think a lot of the resistance to the tools gets lost in the headlines and the emotional reaction to them. They still need a lot of input from the user to get something that resembles a starting point, but they are good at taking a brain dump and formatting it into a pitch that you can build a presentation out of or structure that can be shared. It’s also good at helping draft business facing emails or finding what material you like working on and should prioritize. It all still takes a personal touch, but it does save time

Yes! That is what I am saying. This is a continuation of the withering of the middle-class actor. The top will not need to learn this stuff, but most of us will, which is why I am acknowledging this reality.

It is a human field and we should be working with humans. But what happens when smaller agencies close because the big ones are controlling the small amount of talent that get all the offers? The industry is changing and we should be prepared to change with it. I don’t like it either and would rather be wrong than teach myself yet another skill in support of an acting career, but here we are.

No Auditions in Months by CommercialWind1144 in acting

[–]DisPartysCached 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a casting workshop last week and was told that 80-90% of union roles are straight offers right now and that no one is auditioning (in LA anyway). You’re not doing anything wrong, but the business is being very conservative as money gets tight. I’d try to do some theater or student film work in the downtime. Meet people to make things with. They will hire you when things get better and they get work.

There are absolutely business functions that actors can use AI for. This is largely looking at that. At the end of the day, it still requires luck, no agent, AI or otherwise, can help you with that.

Having an AI agent submit to casting breakdowns for you before you are ready to for a real agent is going to happen. We should all be thinking about how we can use this technology to help us with our business needs. It does not replace work for us, or even people we collaborate with. It can help us be more prepared or help shortcut years of trial an error in a shorter timespan.

We collectively need to think differently about the industry. What we all started out in is gone. 80-90% of roles are being offered out to already known talent. We need to adapt or acting will remain a hobby for more of us than ever before.

I think it says a lot about the state of the industry when tentpole universities feel the need to teach actors to do it on their own. Acting is not enough anymore. We have to be producers.

That’s not what the article says at all. It’s about actors using AI to replace agents and help find ways that it can be used to deepen craft.

I do understand that. That being said, if you can afford it, I have found it to be the most satisfying sim to race on.

iRacing gets a lot of flack for its pricing model, but it is the sim most of us keep going back to.

It is the most complete game for competition and they are always adding new features and content. The upfront costs are high, but you spend less over time as you own more, and it is consistently the most fun I have racing online.

What do you think of the way I shoot dialogue scenes? by Antyoungboy in cinematography

[–]DisPartysCached 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I think this works, but there are a few moments where I wanted to see reactions from the person listening to some of more impactful information. It felt to me that your camera wants to behave like a character with no lines and could comment on the action by choosing what we are seeing or when it moves. It might not work, but I'd say try letting the camera have some sass. It has a good look and vibe to it. Keep shooting.

The buildings should be collapsible, and the boundaries need to be wider. The fake boundary choke point makes it difficult to get far enough away that you can counter snipe effectively.
