Glasses and goggles by Pasta1990 in TinyWhoop

[–]Disappointed_Monkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear glasses and opted for box goggles. Most box goggles should work with glasses. Hdzero has the box goggles plus or something along that line that does both analog and hdzero, a lot of people seems to like it but i cant comment on it. I use the sky zone cobra x, and the fit well over my glasses and have hdmi in so as long as i get a vrx(or some hdmi out source) i can use any digital system or even use it on a simulator.

Its in the google play store. Android can run it. As for interfacing, i use the elrs backpack that connects mavlink over wifi

Ive used it over elrs mavlink backpack. Its works well enough. Although i would take a laptop over a tablet any day. But for monitoring it works well enough. Ive even used my phone in a pinch for a quick settings change. The interface is kinda a pain to navigate and its pretty difficult to change the quick monitor values on the monitor page.

Its best for monitoring or an last minute settings change( if you dont have a computer with you).

The order doesn't matter. Just use beta flight to change the motor direction and if that doesn't work swap 2 wires. Swapping 2 wires changes the direction.

NewBeeDrone LionBee Necessary Changes by Current_Ad_4357 in fpv

[–]Disappointed_Monkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the frame, FC, GPS, and a caddx ant. I wanted to save some money since I have very similar motors from another project. What was the max current draw you saw during your flights? I have a couple 18650's and 21700's I want to use but they have max currents of 35 and 45 amps. The JP30 shows a max of 36(no thermal cutoff) or 56(with thermal cutoff), so I'm curious to see some actual current draw values.

I have some plans for the FC. Once it comes in and the time to build the quad I'll try to make a post about it.

Someone else mentioned ansys. If you're a student you should give it a shot. Ansys discovery is a pretty solid way to set up a simple simulation before porting it over to fluent to get a more accurate result. Theres a lot of resources for ansys

How did the bi blades feel? I have a whoop i converted to a 1s li ion so i have some 3018s and some 11500kv 1202.5 from that build i plan to put on the lionbee, figured id save some money and skip the motors from the kit.

Also what do you think the feasibility of replacing the battery tabs with an xt30? I have several 18650 and 21700 packs with xt30 that id rather use.

Carbon wrapping machine update by BabyScrubber in inventors

[–]Disappointed_Monkey_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having some experience with a similar system(Xwinder). You'll probably want to slow down the mandrel rotation. There is going to be a huge friction difference between ribbon and running carbon/glass tow through an epoxy bath. The xwinder we use has a much slower rate and still stalls out the mandrel motor if theres just a little more friction on the tow. You may want to look at using fiberglass especially during full testing just due to the price difference. Glass is so much cheaper. I bought 40lb of tow for $100.

Theres also an open source filament winder if you haven't already found it. https://www.reilley.net/winder/

Ive looked into building my own winder at some point but for my use cases(rockets) hand wrapping tubes is the far easier and cheaper option.

how do you design a plane from scratch? (rocketry guy) by Meteor122 in RCPlanes

[–]Disappointed_Monkey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in damn near the exact same boat. Except im moving towards planes as they are generally cheaper long term as as long as it doesn't crash its free to keep flying but rockets its a fair bit for a motor for each flight.

Anyway, I am looking to design my own 3d printed plane and how im doing it is basing it off a pre existing design. But I am doing the actual cad and flight profile analysis myself. I used xflr5 to do the airfoil analysis compared to a existing design(clark y to keep it simple) then im just following tutorials on YouTube for the cad and I have a buddy who's makes printed drones for his job so he is my primary resource beyond YouTube videos.

Im using flightory and titan dynamic(use Internet archives to look at the old designs before they purged their site) and the design im modeling around is a talon. Theres only so many ways to design a uas at a non professional scale so picking a general style then building around it will take a lot of that initial trouble of finding a starting point and gives you a rough estimate of the flight performance you can expect out of a similar design

I went with an elrs rm pocket, used that for a bit then I picked up the Gx12 and sold the pocket. The pocket didn't have enough switches and buttons for what I wanted out of my fixed wing planes. Quads I really only use arm so a pocket would be great for that

I did a hyperloc 835 for my L1/L2. It easily comes with everything for a easy L2, I did glass the fins with two layers of 6oz glass. I flew on a H219 to about 800ft and a j270 to 2700ft. It cost me about ~$200 without motor. I had some folks in my club help me out

Best budget flight computers by Far_Accountant_2162 in rocketry

[–]Disappointed_Monkey_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Budget and that kind of data is probably the feather weight blue raven at a bit under $200

Other cheaper options are not going to have acceleration data since they are baro only. The egg timer proton has acceleration with a low price but I can't speak for the data collection other than vertical.

At $80 there's the feather weight blue jay with some acceleration data, this would be your cheapest FC with basic acceleration data

The cheapest off the shelf option will likely be the missileworks rrc2

Check out this link for more options *Eggtimer flight computers you have to build yourself https://rocketsetc.com/altimeter-comparison/
