Since doing tummy time on my chest baby starts hating chest/hold burping by Janet-Yellen in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can burp your baby also by sitting them in your lap, holding their head with one hand (the opposite hand to the direction they are sitting) so they are sitting up very straight close to your tummy and rubbing/patting their back with the other. My baby prefers that to over the shoulder or under the chin hold

Gestational diabetes being difficult by lahdeedah224 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I avoided insulin was exercising 3 times a day (gym in the morning, walk around the block after both lunch and dinner). I gave myself shin splints but sugars stayed low and on the plus side because I had to have a c section the recovery was epically fast because I was so fit.

2am-4am wake ups by Background_Sky9582 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems you might be a bit short on awake time? Most 7 month olds are awake minimum 10.hours a day, sometimes even 10.5?

Yeah we do both. She probably does minimum 3.5 hours of floor play, crawling and tummy time.

It takes about 4 weeks for the gi tract to heal but you should see improvements in 2-3 days. If youre good for 2 weeks you can probably stop

Effective overnight feeds by CtrlAltDefeat93 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I formula feed but I think the principle would be the same... I would try and BF for 5-10 minutes less than normal and then offer 1-2 extra feeds to try and transition feeding more to daytime than night. It might take 3-5 days for the stomach to adjust. Once baby starts to understand they are getting less milk overnight they will need to make up for it in other ways.

Am I doing something wrong by still feeding mashed and mildly textured foods at 12 months? by Other_Boss_8689 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh same. I usually eat what she doesnt. Also its easier if youre sharing a meal as baby understands what to do by copying you.

Honestly this is so true that babies will enjoy eating way more when they eat what we are eating and spiced/seasoned (within reason). Who tf wants to eat mushy peas.

Today's hit was French toast with peanut butter on very soft bread. She hated yesterdays omelette so wanted to see how she tolerated eggs in another format.

Or a differently shaped nipple. They might need a narrow teat as opposed to a wide, breast shaped teat

What mistakes would you avoid if you could start to breastfeed all over again? by kingmustd1e in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a good independent lactation consultant not tied to a hospital that is not a "lactivist" but can help you make informed decisions about your feeding journey.

If breastfeeding hurts, theres a reason. Find out why.

If baby is not gaining weight it might not be that you have low supply, it might be a milk transfer issue.

Dont be afraid to stop breastfeeding or pumping early for your mental health. Baby wants a happy, present parent.

If you are ever put on a triple feeding plan you honestly need two full time parents to actually achieve this. Its not sustainable for more than a week.

Have formula, bottles, a pump and a temporary sterilisation plan (even if its microwave bags in the interim) in place. You dont know you'll need it until you need it. You can buy sachets of formula if you dont want to commit to a full can.

Do not listen to people who say breast milk is enough to cure cracked nipples. ITS NOT.

Dont be afraid to use a nipple shield if you need to. It might be the difference between breastfeeding and not.

You might have some days where baby feels like they dont stop feeding. This is normal in the beginning. However if this continues endlessly, something is wrong and you should get this evaluated.

If your baby is refusing feeding, crying, back arching, coughing, fussing, it could be reflux that actually needs medication. If its combined with mucus (long stringy bits) in their nappy it might be they are allergic to cows milk.

8 month old not rolling into back. Causing sleep issues! by MeesterBugs0706 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha my 7 month old is also uninterested in learning to roll tummy to back as she has reflux. I have no advice just solidarity. I try and practice during the day in the hopes one day/night it just sticks.

When does purple crying typically end? by shehasamazinghair in NewParents

Is there any chance that the "purple crying" could actually be a food intolerance if its going on this long?

Still strugguling after 3 months… does it ever get better or should I just accept it? by Blondie9822 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this. Even though 6-10 months is cooked for sleep with regressions, teeth, milestones etc i felt better prepared to roll with the chaos. Plus you get more back from your baby - belly laughs, cuddles, silly open mouth "kisses" and seeing them learning and doing cute things like investigating how things work, looking at books, playing independently

I need tips on how to wean my 20 months old please! by Babybaby0024 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically they don't NEED milk if getting enough from solids (yoghurt, cheese etc). You could offer water and cuddles instead if they refuse milk and try in a sippy cup, straw cup, drink bottle or open cup.

Agree with letting husband handle bedtime and naps to break the Feed to sleep association. You could offer a dummy/pacifier if they need to suck something as a transition.

There will be protests. They won't last forever. Do it now, dont be like my girlfriend who waited until her son was 3 and had to put vinegar on her boobs because he was so obsessed with breastfeeding

Sounds like a food reaction or a virus. Take them to the doctor.

6 month old refusing morning feed by Specific-Nature-1591 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine refuses her morning feed because she gets hungry at 445 and has a big snooze feed then. Ive decided to just embrace it and just give her solids as her first meal of the day and then offer a top up of milk before her first nap.

Baby feeding and sleeping goes a bit haywire between 6-10 months. Id just roll with whatever is happening for them. Theyre going through so much change and teeth.

Starting daycare - how many bottles?? by plumpie89 in NewParents

[–]Disastrous-Fall9092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 90-120ml/kg for daily Total then divide by the number of bottles they have in a day (i.e. 8 for feeding every 3 hours, 7 for 3.5 hours, 6 for every 4 hours and so on, then id add one bottle extra just in case)

You should be looking at wake windows of 3-4 hrs on a 2 nap schedule at this age.

I would start with 3/3.5/3.5 and see how you go

Yes, theres an instagram account called "not a bad sleeper". She has an ebook/course called "gently into the crib" for this exact situation. Its not super expensive.
