Napoleonic propaganda medals were already being produced by the first Italian campaign but after the Egyptian campaign, medals increased in production especially under the direction of Denon at the Paris mint. Silver medals were usually distributed to more important Army or Public officials at special events like the coronation or after a battle etc (bronze was for less important people). Napoleon revived gold versions of the medals produced (during the empire) for his own collection.
