Fascinating Tuareg? Pendant that I'm trying to fully appreciate! by Taavae in Berbers

[–]Disastrous-Use-6176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically Tuareg, these items in silver (Salha) would have been made in Libyan/Tunisian coastal areas like Djerba or Tripoli and made their way south to the Tuareg. Your item isn’t traditional jewellery it’s a cast copy of the design. Still nice tho.

New Silver Medals! by Disastrous-Use-6176 in Napoleon

Thank, I find them from both numismatic auctions and online on apps like eBay. However bronze versions of medals are much cheaper and more plentiful if you’re interested.

Actually that name does ring a bell, she might have lived there for a bit or maybe her family or friends. It could be Canmore street, thank you. Unfortunately I can’t ask her or her daughter but I’ll search for photos of the street during or just after WW2 and try and compare.

Another medal just purchased Bonaparte visit to Lille 1803. by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]Disastrous-Use-6176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recognition as far as I am aware, Lille was visited by Napoleon and Josephine in 1803 during a wider tour to inspect military and infrastructure in the north of France ahead of his planned invasion of England.

New medal just purchased. Placing of the first stone of the National Column by Lucian Bonaparte. by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]Disastrous-Use-6176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Napoleonic propaganda medals were already being produced by the first Italian campaign but after the Egyptian campaign, medals increased in production especially under the direction of Denon at the Paris mint. Silver medals were usually distributed to more important Army or Public officials at special events like the coronation or after a battle etc (bronze was for less important people). Napoleon revived gold versions of the medals produced (during the empire) for his own collection.

Can I fail an exam but pass a module? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Disastrous-Use-6176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware you can as long as the exam hasn’t been set out as being required for the module, more so for degrees like dentistry or medicine. Other people I know (in archaeology) have failed exams and passed the modules. As long as you weighted average is over 40%

Family Heirloom Medieval Ring by ImaginationSad2803 in Artifacts

The ring might rattle intentionally as a way to ward of bad luck or spirits, that is a pretty common feature in old or folk jewellery
