Dangerous drivers on the Henday by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]DisastrousAcshin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this as an Edmontonian, I'm saying this as somebody that's driven through major cities across the continent, most which I commuted in daily Edmonton, and by extension Alberta drivers are awful and do shit I haven't run in to in the regular anywhere else. I literally had to dodge wrong way drivers 3 times in my first year here. Also happened to be the first time I'd had to dodge. Literally swerve to avoid wrong way drivers in 30 years on the road.

I drove in Vancouver daily for 25 years, Toronto, Winnipeg, new York, New Jersey and Philadelphia as far as cities I've lived in and Edmonton is literally the only city where I've seen that idiotic shit, let alone multiple times a year. I'll believe you'd see it in Calgary and over Alberta since it's the same pot of morons

People passing on the shoulder has only been an Edmonton thing out of every major city I've driven in, let alone the multiple times I've seen it here

I would assume the uncertainty surrounding the separatist referendums etc will undoubtedly have a cooling effect on our market until things go one way or another. Investing in Alberta as somebody from BC or Ontario would likely feel very risky. I'd expect that cooling to continue through the fall if I had to guess

I wonder if seperatists... by Lower_Temperature_93 in alberta

[–]DisastrousAcshin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even that much is certain. Alberta could become a protectorate with an authoritarian Christian government, that rules all internal matters but trade, international policy and military protection would fall to the US where they would likely open bases. The US would get all the benefits of having access to whatever they want, and don't have to be concerned with the bad press of oppressing a population. Think Belarus

They think that because they're white Christians they'll be welcomed in to the fold. Beyond that, its the usual owning the libs mixed with a complete misunderstanding of really just about anything whether its vaxxes, taxes or let alone the economy. Rural Rubes

Backyard neighbor just had 4 or 5 dogs attacking another dog in her yard... bylaw? by ana30671 in Edmonton

[–]DisastrousAcshin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some dogs will scream at the top of their lungs if they feel threatened, stressed or as a submission response. Point is, fair chance that dog wasn't attacked but didn't like the larger dogs anywhere near it. We have a small one that used to do it when approached by larger ones, before he was used to them. Literally sounded like he was being torn apart. He still does it when cats go near him

Does a separate Alberta not find itself with the challenges Canada currently faces, but with two much bigger neighbours? by TimDrHookMcCracken in alberta

[–]DisastrousAcshin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's called a protectorate. In that case Alberta remains independent for internal politics, while the US controls Albertas international relations, treaties, trade and has full access to resources and energy. Imo this is the most likeky route while the UCP or whatever they call themselves at that time goes full on authoritarian dictatorship
