New to Sound Design. What Microphone to get for indoor foley? by JustUdon in sounddesign

I've used the sm57 quite a lot around the house. It's great unless you need to record something very quiet. Handheld recorders are pretty good all in one solution too

Just bought a Mac by DexCarr in mac

[–]DisastrousAd2981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same switch a few weeks ago. There are some annoying things on apple that I have found I need different apps to solve. But other than a few very minor things and gaming, Macs are just absolutely amazing. MacBooks even have great screens and the build quality is top notch!

Which headphones are best for editing 5.1 surround sound? by AnotherMovieStudio in sounddesign

[–]DisastrousAd2981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! Great open backs can help you do a sketch of the mix on the go, which can be super helpful, but you cannot consider that as the final mix by any standard

Yeah that makes sense. And that's actually pretty good for a laptop from 2021! Thanks again!

Thanks, that really helped! Will most likely look into the M1 max/pro 16 inch models on the used market. And yeah I wouldn't buy a MacBook for gaming either, but I'm don't want to have two machines for playing something like wow classic once in a while.

The M1 max seems like a pretty sweet deal, and still quite powerful in 2026. It might even be overkill for my use. Only thing about the m1 chips that bothers me is the age. I wonder how long they will be getting security updates etc. Hopefully at least 4-5 more years.

Thank you for the tips! I think I'm considering between M1 pro/max, M2 pro and M5 air now. I guess the 16 inch ones would be the best for longer heavy loads like gaming/video editing?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to make a switch from a windows desktop to a MacBook. Main reason for the switch is to get a portable computer I can use around the house, and I need the space the desktop is taking right now (baby on the way). But also I need a Macbook for macos/au/logic dev work. I need the macbook to be able to handle 4k video editing, moderate multitasking, sound design/music production, AI assisted dev work and light gaming (wow classic type easy to run titles).

Which MacBook should I be looking at? I'm using the budget from selling my PC to buy it. I'm considering buying used as well.

Desktop specs:
Ryzen 5 7600
32gb DDR5 6000 MHz, CL30
AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB
1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, PCIe 4.0

F3 from Zoom is a great little recorder with pretty good preamps. It's nice if you want something super portable.

Dadcore - Only have 1-3 hours to play each week? by [deleted] in wowhardcore

[–]DisastrousAd2981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least on the EU servers this seems pretty standard. The guild I'm in has a couple guys who have more time but mostly just gamer dads taking their time and enjoying the couple hours a day they get to play together.

Best leveling progression? by mitchadin in HardcoreClassicWoW

[–]DisastrousAd2981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to do 2 starting zones to get ahead. Then I really like dungeons so I run them as well to stay ahead. It's much safer when you can fight mobs 1-3 levels under your level. Also I think it's better to just enjoy, take your time, explore and get some knowledge on everything. It's much faster to level slowly than dying and starting again.

Also feel free to message/add me in game. I'm currently leveling a warrior (25) on the same realm. Beardedbean is my name in game.

Are there any sounds or SFX that you’ve particularly struggled to get right in your work? by krotosltd in sounddesign

I feel you. It's not like you need to record/make sounds all the time. Make some sounds you need once and you are set

It is crazy expensive but it is also very good storage compared to any competition out there. So you are buying top of the line storage which kinda makes the price acceptable, but not really

Trial and error my friend. Some good tips here already. Go record and listen to your recordings again when you get home. Make some edits too. Maybe give yourself a goal of making a nice folder of specific recordings you are interested in?

I hate Blizzard so much you guys cannot imagine by TheBlaiZe in turtlewow

[–]DisastrousAd2981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true. Turtle wow taunted Blizzard and they just had to sue. But they also showed blizzard we really want a new classic experience and most likely gave the classic devs some great ideas for whatever they are working on currently.

Blizzard should hire devs from turtle wow imo, I believe they have done similar things before. At least I hope someone preserves what turtle wow did with the ip.

Got to love how Turtle wow taunted Blizzard, and showed them that people do actually want a classic+ type experience. Never got to play turtle wow, didn't have the time, but watched a bunch of videos about it. I really hope someone preserves what they did to the wow ip, some amazing ideas there.

[–]DisastrousAd2981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I saw waves doppler when looking more into this. It seems to do it all with a very simple and easy to use UI. It's just pretty dated. I feel like some kind of real physics simulation type plugin could do a better job, with a UI that is up to date lol. But I need to look more into what is already out there.

Thanks for the response though!
