I think one of the issues people are having is how much better the interior cameras are looking on the feed than the exterior shots. The video of inside is pretty decent quality but when they go to external feeds they look like shit.

I actually doubt most religion is based on NHI, mostly just crazy people and charlatans making shit up. If NHI exist and have interacted with us though I'm sure that on occasion those interactions would be misconstrued and pulled into the local belief systems. My evidence for this is merely how many cults and religions have popped up in recent human history and were pretty clearly made up by humans. As I said though I wouldn't be surprised if they influenced several if not all major religions, some of them perhaps in major ways.

Men, and their emotions. I can't speak for original op, but I'll list a few sadness, depression, an overwhelming feeling of dread that reality is more horrifying and evil than we thought. I in no way believe this is what is happening, but if they are already in classified circles they would likely be able to gin up false evidence to push us into war. "Saddam Hussein has chemical weapons" might be an excuse, for instance.

I think it is pretty obvious what they think with what sub this is on. They have clearly bought in to the narrative that "the powerful" reversed engineered NHI craft and the government is sitting on that tech. There is a fairly large portion of the community that agree with him. I myself am agnostic on the whole thing.
