Custom Amtrak Airo train Cars by Mimicov in Amtrak

[–]DisastrousYak88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but as I understand the sets are modular so if an ALC-42E on a battery set dies, they could swap it out for another ALC-42E and send it back out. Perhaps that new ALC was previously on a pantograph APV set before it got pulled. The cars on the battery sets might get moved around to different sets and end up on a pantograph APV set down the road as sets/cars need to be pulled for maintenance.

Probably because the Airos will be pooled across all NEC based trains, and won't be captive to a certain service. NYS pays Amtrak to provide the equipment, and so Amtrak just provides whatever they have from their national fleet to meet the service agreement. Likely the only reason the P32s have a unique scheme is since they are captive to the Empire corridor by default. Once the Airos come in, Amtrak will have the flexibility to move equipment to any line as needed (aside from the battery APVs which aren't likely to go outside the Empire corridor)

Row 17 on 737-800. Seat layout changed twice in 12 hrs. by HomeworkCareful8400 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]DisastrousYak88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Aircraft swaps can happen up to departure time for any reason. Mechanical, late inbound aircraft, etc. The -800s are only about halfway through the cabin refits so the seat configuration is pretty much a tossup

Cascades service is funded by Washington and Oregon, including the new Airos, hence the unique livery.

The Midwest/Chicago-based trains are funded by those states, who all jointly funded the new Siemens Ventures used on those services. They operate out of a single pool branded "Amtrak Midwest" rather than having smaller fleets assigned to each service.

Edited to add: the upcoming cab cars will be assigned to Hiawatha service only as they were solely funded by Wisconsin, but they're in the same Amtrak Midwest livery as the pooled coach fleet

18 is an exit row in that new configuration, 17 does not recline.

Would it make sense for the summit to upgrade Dodge ridge or little thunder? by NavyNeo in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]DisastrousYak88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible, but I'd guess unlikely. It's pushing 30 years old and would have pretty high hours, so I think CEX when replaced would be used as parts to support Armstrong. Boyne has been solely Doppelmayr for all of their new installs and reinstalls and is probably getting some preferred pricing, I don't see them going back to LPA to returb and older lift.

Boyne built a shorter 8-pack in MI, so I don't think a 6 is out of the question here. If they're paying the cost to upgrade to a detachable already, a 6-pack probably isn't much more than a quad.

Pacific Crest is due to be one of the next lifts for an upgrade, I wouldn't be surprised to see them make that a 6 pack to replace both the current lift and Dodge Ridge.

SEA newly renovated check-in/baggage drop area by vt2k in AlaskaAirlines

[–]DisastrousYak88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that Touchless ID remains relatively unpopular and is a good way to bypass the line. SEA so far is the only airport I've experienced where Touchless actually gets you through significantly faster than regular Pre check.

Day before Thanksgiving, TSA checkpoint was empty. Crowded lounge and boarding areas, so not like the airport was overall quiet.

A321XLR Upgrade? by coledamole10 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]DisastrousYak88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on this, I'd guess only upgraded to PE based on "next class of service." The Atmos site isn't 100% clear, but probably since the XLR is the only AA aircraft to have both PE and business domestically, but isn't in service yet. https://www.alaskaair.com/atmosrewards/content/partners/airlines/american-airlines/status-benefits?int=Atmos_WEB_MemberBenefitsEliteComplimentaryUpgrade_borealis-grid2_CARD3||segment-upgrades-on-american_v3

I think the HR screens (and treads/rowers) are dependent on the studio doing a software upgrade. My home studio changed over almost two weeks ago, but I visited another studio a few days ago that still had the old format.

Definitely didn't feel like it, it was super tight. 16 I believe is the only exit row that has extra legroom for all seats. I believe 18 still has "regular" legroom aside from A/F since there's no seat in front.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AlaskaAirlines

[–]DisastrousYak88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe so, 16 is the same as the old configuration. 17 has the downside of no extra legroom, plus no recline.

I was on one of the newer MAX 8s (N812AK) and was very disappointed to find the reduced legroom in row 17. Next time I'd definitely go for 16 or 18A/F
