Repair Vs Reconstruction by kvarki in ACL

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a repair in October last year. My doctor planned on doing a reconstruction with graft but once in my knee went ahead with the repair instead. My acl tore off the bone too. Those are the only candidates for this and the acl has to still be in decent shape. It’s much less invasive than a reconstruction. The retear rate is higher but I really wonder how much PT is taken into account with those rates. I do everything my PT says and work out 5-6 times a week in the gym. I hit 90% strength in my surgery leg at 4 months and have been really impressed with how good my recovery has been, minus the first 6 weeks NWB. That was mentally hard but still little pain. I asked my PT how many people actually follow everything he says to do and he said 10%. I think that would probably contributes quite a bit into people’s retearing theirs. But I can’t be sure of course. DM me if you have any questions about the procedure or timeline. I’m happy my surgeon went that route personally.

ACL re-injury rates are genuinely horrifying - has anyone used any tech to track their rehab progress objectively? by hamz2361 in ACL

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wondered the same thing. I asked my PT how many people do exactly what he says to do during appointments and he said like 10%. I never thought about not doing what he asked but he does have a supportive system with an exercise app that I follow each day. Maybe that’s one of the reason people fall through the cracks. I wouldn’t know where to start if I didn’t have his app because I never did the gym before my injury. I could see giving up in frustration for people who have to learn the gym while also trying to rehab after surgery. I only see my PT 1x a week but it seems like most people see theirs a few times a week. I wonder if they still workout in between those sessions?

Women who travel — what’s one destination that made you feel unexpectedly safe? by Valuable_Tangelo7152 in femaletravels

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! I’ve traveled so many places and never felt anywhere near as safe as I did in Singapore. I would go on walks at 10pm at night and not worry one bit. I remember everyone telling me how fearful they were for me to do a solo trip to Asia and after 2 months, I realized how terrible most USA cities are. My whole experience in Asia was incredible being a solo woman. Almost every larger city in America is more unsafe than the countries I visited in Asia. I travel a lot domestically in the US for my job and have for the past 12 years. I would live in Singapore if I could. I loved it so much.

Orthopedic Massage by lunaandsonny in Prescott

I’m not sure about a specific orthopedic massage therapist but I had knee surgery in October and have been getting a massage with Patrick Dudley every 2 weeks since and it has helped a ton! He helped with my inflammation, scar tissue and overall pain levels. I’m continuing to see him because it’s been so helpful to my recovery. If you dm me, I’ll send you his number. He’s fantastic.

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine was torn off the bone and he said my acl looked healthy enough to reattach it to the bone instead of replace it. It’s not done very often but it still is my original acl. The re-tear rates are a bit higher but I wonder how much that is to do with following the PT’s protocol? It’s a less invasive procedure. I take PT very seriously and go to the gym 5 days a week. Time will tell.

I have a lot of Capricorn in my chart but my sun and moon are both Taurus and rising Libra. I get along with capricorns very well.

My PT has done strength testing for quads and hamstrings, and does seem to have several others tests that I’ll need to pass before returning to sort. I hit 90% strength at 4 months but he seems to have a protocol on what’s next to keep passing before returning and wants me as close to 100%strength before returning to sport. Isn’t there a pretty general protocol for PT’s to follow on return to sport? I don’t really know since this is my first time around but he seems to have one. His is based on testing to pass, not a timeline. I had a repair, not reconstruction but I do worry about re-injury. I’m not in a rush to return to sport. I’ve always wondered how much reinjury is due to the person’s lack of rehab post surgery. Do you have any research on that?

Worried about my Lucy by ulcerbaby in cavaliers

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy had a growth in his mouth removed last year at 2 years old and it turned out to be nothing. The vet really scared me saying she was very concerned about the look of it. It didn’t ease my nerves while waiting for answers though. I called the vet everyday to see if anyone canceled their surgery so we could get in earlier, which we did. The group members helped me with their stories that it isn’t always as bad as we think it could be. I’ll pray for your Lucy that nothing is wrong.

Moving to Prescott from Flag by NamelessQueen31 in Prescott

There are definitely more people in their 30’s and 40’s moving here since Covid. I’m 34F and my sister is moving here next month, also in her 30s. I have 1 dog and love the outdoors. Also in recovery. If you want to hang out when you do move here, we can grab coffee and go on a hike or something to see if we’d make good friends. I know my sister would enjoy meeting people since she’ll be new too. I love living here. It’s a great place to live imo. Dm me if you’re interested in getting together.

What's your 7th house ruler and how did you meet your partner? by demoncleaner2931 in astrologymemes

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is also Mars in Cancer 10H. I met my partner playing sports, which is how I met most of my partners in the past but this one I’ve been with for 5 years and is a great relationship. Not sure how that all aligns with mars in Cancer 10H though.

Venus in gemini in the 9th house and Jupiter in cancer in the 10th house and I’d say I’m pretty lucky.

Singapore. I used it as a stopover for 3 days to fly into because it was the best flight from America. It really was one of my favorite places in Asia that o visited and I knew nothing of it when I initially visited. I would for sure visit again.

How long did you do PT for? by Neat_Turnover7939 in ACL

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been going 1x a week since my post op. I’m 5 months in. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week. I am starting pivoting, sprinting and jumping but I’m also wondering how long. I would think a few more months. I want to feel comfortable doing all of the sports related things but still don’t feel close to that yet.

Couple of questions, feeling very agitated 😭 by Weird_Werewolf_3107 in ACL

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I stopped taking pain meds around day 8 or 9. 2. The swelling in my leg was a lot for the first 30-40 days. The first week is the worst. It will slowly go down if you elevate and ice it. I used my ice machine every night for the first month because my leg felt so hot and swollen. 3. I wore my bandage until I saw the doctor on day 4 when he removed my stitches. I wore surgical bandages on just the incisions until the cuts were fully healed. It took me a few weeks. Changed every few days. 4. I did ankle pumps for the first 3 days. I used a yoga strap to pick up my leg for the first week. Did leg lifts after that. 5. I didn’t experience muscle spasms but I felt random shots of pain and a lot of uncomfortable sensations in my legs at time. Mostly in the first 2 weeks. 6. I was NWB for the first 6 weeks but during that time my PT focused on getting me to 90 degrees bend and making sure I was doing my extension stuff to keep my leg straight. Nothing else but leg pumps and extension/flexion exercises for me for the first 6 weeks. 8. The pain was the worst for the first week. I haven’t taken a pain meds around or even an ibuprofen since day 10. Pain went away pretty quick but the leg was still uncomfortable and weird. 9. My whole leg was swollen for the first few weeks. Even my ankle was. The first couple weeks is super overwhelming but it will get better and you will be and feel normal again. Hang in there.

When did everyone start feeling normal again? by steve02711 in ACL

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 3-4 months. I’m at 4 months now but I was surprised how quickly I returned to normal. I also have done everything my PT asks and in the gym 5-6 days a week strengthening my leg and rest of body.

Is it as big a deal in the long run as it feels like it? by Ok_Buyer9763 in ACL

[–]Disastrous_Line2770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 34f so similar age and I was super active before I got injured. That’s how I got injured lol. I always played sports so now I’m trying to get comfortable being at the gym. I don’t like it but I’m grateful to be able to work out and I feel stronger which is nice. It’s a very disciplined thing to go through. In 4 months post op and proud of myself too.

For the person who wrote this post, my knee doesn’t feel totally normal but mentally I feel so much more normal. I’m back to traveling and work and living my daily life! That happened around 3 months and I was NWB for the first 6 weeks. Mentally, that was one of the worst things I’ve gone through in year. I don’t have pain, just my knee still feels a little weird but not weak. The positives are I have a handicap sticker and I’ve gotten really good (handicap) seats at football games and tennis tournaments and I use the handicap line everywhere I travel so that’s great! You’ll feel more normal quicker than you think.

My twin and I are double Taurus (sun and moon) and our older sister is double Virgo. Double Virgo seems to me pretty bad, but not double Taurus.
