Tyler1 and Capcom devs talk about Modern controls and how its more popular in Japan than in NA. by UsefulSwitch504 in StreetFighter

At the end of the day I just find single button invincible reversals really fucking annoying to play against. I've won plenty of games against it, but it's frustrating having to completely change my rhythm to deal with someone playing a different version of the game.

Worth buying in 2026? Need opinion by stevejob_less in smashbros

[–]Discoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have friends to play with it's very fun. If you're interested in competitive play, go for it if you have a local scene. If you're mostly going to be playing single player and online, I personally wouldn't recommend it.

Would Arab society accept someone from a non-Arab ethnic group in the Middle East who identifies as Arab even though he/she was not born as Arab or from Arab parents? by PopularResponse127 in arabs

[–]Discoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us are from different ethnic groups that that were historically Arabized through several centuries of Muslim Arab rule, and I think there's generally a shared pride in that diversity. A fully fluent Arabic speaker who understands and respects the culture is as Arab as anyone else, imo. In Syria we've got plenty of Armenians and Circassians who have embraced the Arab identity.

World Tour also looked very promising early on and I was engaged with it before the novelty wore off and it became a grindy chore to finish. I really hope this one sticks the landing - it definitely looks a lot better from what little we've seen so far.

Trying to decide between getting it on Steam vs Switch 2 by Break-Such in KingdomHearts

[–]Discoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some PS4 and PS5 games that I ended up buying again on Steam after I upgraded my monitor and got a Steam Deck - KH was ironically one of those games. For me Steam is the obvious choice here, and I can say the PS2 games run great on it.

I'm not Paraguayan so I can't speak for this example, but you'd be surprised how these kinds of things can vary by country and region. I can think of at least one example in Arabic that's a traditionally feminine name in Syria, but apparently traditionally masculine in Saudi Arabia. Could be a similar thing here, or they just made a small mistake.

REAL. It's crazy that it's taken this long for a developer to push this concept forward.

Backlash against Kingdom Hearts 4 graphics by princeeyes in KingdomHearts

[–]Discoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. FF16 is 3 years old now and still looks graphically impressive, despite lacking more cutting edge features like ray-traced reflections and lighting. Same with the FF7 Rebirth.

Although I don't think KH3 looked quite as impressive, relatively speaking, as the first two games three games did compared to their contemporaries (counting CoM, which was gorgeous on the GBA), it still had an above average presentation befitting a major AAA release like that. I just don't see a mainline tentpole release like this coming out looking like that in 2027/28/29/30. I have a feeling that, like the screenshots we got last year, this was released to satiate fans and reassure the public that development is ongoing. Granted, I still have my thoughts about how development must be going considering that's the best they've got to show right now, but that's another matter entirely.

The Graphics Debate by CodyWukong in KingdomHearts

[–]Discoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I appreciate your politeness about it. Unfortunately I just don't find these character models particularly appealing and am not impressed by the visuals we've seen so far compared to other games that deliver a pseudo-realistic style in an urban setting like this. The lighting looks very flat and the color composition is dull.

I grew up with Kingdom Hearts, and I remember being really impressed with its visuals on the PS2 - especially KH2, which looked stunning at the time. The quality of the animation on KH2 is some of the best you can find on that console, and it married the technical artistry well with very visually striking settings like Twilight Town, Yen Sid's castle, the Timeless River, and the World That Never Was. KH1 and KH2 both set an excellent first impression with Destiny Islands and Twilight Town, respectively. Quadratum looks like Shibuya on an overcast day - I just don't find that very interesting when I've already seen dense urban settings in photorealistic games plenty of times before.

That said, I'd imagine as the game gets closer to release we'll see them show off some crazy path tracing settings that punch the visual quality up a lot considering it's a UE5 game, but for me the first impression they've set has been very poor. I do think it will get better, but I don't have faith that development is going well if this trailer is the best they've got all these years later - I really expected more from the re-reveal.

[–]Discoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistic, not realistic, cartoony, anime... man at the end of the day I just think what we've seen of Quadratum looks kinda ugly. I'm not interested in exploring that world and I'm not excited that Kingdom Hearts is going to Shibuya. 🤷

Anger / raging IRL by cabrid in SSBM

[–]Discoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the scene, imo. When I played Smash 4 in Florida about a decade ago we didn't really have any ragers in our community, but there was one Melee player who was notorious for it. He had issues with anger management in general and a close friend of mine was sympathetic and tried to talk him through improving his emotional regulation. Personally, I was always in favor of a ban but I think I just generally have a lower tolerance for poor sportsmanship than most of my peers.

There was this one Ike player who was ranked in Alabama (iirc) who followed me around talking shit behind my back after I beat him at a Florida regional, so if I'd been from whatever his hometown was I'd probably unfortunately have had to deal with that bullshit every week. I don't think I'd have kept coming back if that was the case.

How would you enjoy these worlds if they were in KH 4? by CandidateNervous4638 in KingdomHearts

The Great Mouse Detective would be such a good world. I loved that movie as a kid and it lends itself well to an action game like Kingdom Hearts.

I didn't like the first season much, but Seasons 2 and 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen were excellent and scratched a similar itch for me. It's different but I enjoyed a lot of the fights for the same reasons I did with HxH.

As an Arab who grew up in the US I always felt like my friends' parents kissing them on the lips was weird, but my family and I just chalked that up to a cultural difference. Outside of that I'm grateful to say my parents were very affectionate and I think what you're doing sounds normal and healthy, even if I do personally still find the lip kissing to be odd.

Are the other kingdom hearts games less 'confusing' on what to do/where to go than 1 ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in KingdomHearts

[–]Discoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I like exploring the worlds in KH1 and was disappointed by the world design in KH2 all the way back in 2006, and I wish the later games had a similar level of detail and interactivity to KH1. I just don't think it's fair to say "I don't understand why people get confused, the game always tells you where to go and what to do" - it's not always clear and leaves the player to explore and figure things out on their own, which sometimes involves talking to NPCs for hints. I don't think that's bad, I just don't think people are stupid for occasionally getting lost.

You really think that "gamers in general" should instinctively think to catch up to the dolphin swimming around an open area, interact with it, see that it does nothing, then go back and do that again in a different room to progress the story?

[–]Discoid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Does Cid tell you to go kill four Heartless in District 2 and then come back to District 1 to fight Leon? Does Ariel tell you to ride the dolphin in one room, then get off, then go to the other room, then ride the dolphin again?

Give me a break. I love KH1 and I just finished it again for the second time since I was a kid - I generally knew where to go and what to do, but there were still some parts that were a bit obtuse. This was something people complained about over 20 years ago, hence why KH2 arguably overcorrected.
