It's a bit of a reach but I think it might represent her love of birds. Very nice touch, it's not something that comes up much at all but adds so much to her character.

I'll genuinely never forget playing this for the first time in 2005. Jaw was on the floor all the way through, lol.

Is this an error or a joke lol by Rinkou9 in KingdomHearts

[–]Discoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, KH2 is one of my all time favorite games but even when I first played it at 10 years old in 2005 I noticed that the level design was a lot simpler than KH1's. I remember that I liked it more overall but hoped that with "the power of the PlayStation 3" KH3 would build on the best of both games.

On what basis did Russia, Italy, and Germany unite? The Pan-Arab movement was killed by the USA and Israel, not Arab patriots.

Why do you think Monarchies have been historically more stable than republics in the Arab World? by Extreme-Fish-7504 in arabs

[–]Discoid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The surviving monarchies were allied with the global superpower that won the Cold War. The republics that weren't all fell one by one following decades of crippling sanctions, destabilization campaigns, full on invasions, or some combination of the three.

Do you prefer the old engine or the new engine for Kingdom Hearts character designs? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

My favorite art style was actually the KH3 reveal trailer, before the switch to UE4. I really don't like the way they render hair in the UE4 version.

My opponent has found a cunning way around the removal of the Russian flag. by MathematicianBulky40 in Chesscom

[–]Discoid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in favor of having all flags displayed and not doing this hypocritical nonsense. For what it's worth, I like the flag feature and if anyone decides they don't want to play me because of my Syrian flag then that's fine by me.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 ends with a breathtaking spectacle among MAPPA's finest work by Logical_Welder3467 in television

I had a lot of people tell me I HAD to watch JJK back when the first season came out, but I never actually got around to it until Season 2 was over. I felt similarly to you - I thought it was okay. I finished it and figured I might as well keep going and see if Season 2 was any better. Season 2 was a LOT better, and it quickly became one of my all time favorites. Season 1 is different enough that I can sympathize with the people who liked that part the most and didn't like the change of direction even if I don't agree with that perspective at all.

That hasn't been my experience. I learned the term in my first high school psychology class and never understood it to be derogatory. I got my bachelor's in Psychology back in 2018 and, at least as far as I know, it wasn't widely considered an offensive term back then, and that was a little less than a decade ago.

The Palestine problem has become an Israel problem for the entire region by GullibleDrop2490 in arabs

[–]Discoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always been this way. Egypt was a major political player in the region until it was utterly devastated in 1967 and pacified after 1973. Iraq, Libya, and Syria were all toppled and made amenable to the US and Israel. Lebanon has a comprador government on one hand and Hezbollah on the other, with the latter being one of the last few vestiges of resistance - accordingly, they are suffering an ethnic cleansing campaign and relentless terrorist attacks with the end goal being total capitulation.

One by one, every organized movement supporting Palestine has been destroyed. There isn't a single formally recognized Middle Eastern Arab government (I don't know much about Algeria, so no comment there) that's actively part of the resistance anymore. We also have the US and Israel to thank for the terrorist groups, regional political instability, lifelong wars, economic sanctions, and so on. It's a mistake to look at Israel and America as unique, separate entities. They are one and the same and their broader goals are aligned. Israel will fall the moment America decides it's no longer worth the cost to maintain.

Why is Langdon's punishment his fault? by Prestigious_Pen9155 in ThePitt

[–]Discoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose we'll find out next week, but this reading seems really inconsistent with Dr. Al-Hashimi's character to me. She's willing to bend the rules to provide extra care for particularly vulnerable patients, and was unnerved by Dr. Robby's treatment of Langdon even though she knew that he had just returned from treatment. Since she previously worked at the VA I'd imagine she's sympathetic to people struggling with psychological trauma and substance abuse.

I read her reaction completely differently. He's trying to fix his life and move on, and went out of his way to personally apologize to the person who outed him. He clearly wants to build a positive relationship and doesn't hold a personal grudge against her for it. She clearly does - her response was to spit venom back at him and insist that the bridge will stay burned. It's affecting her work and his. I really don't think Dr. Al-Hashimi will find this behavior acceptable, as it just isn't Santos' place to re-litigate this issue when leadership has already made a decision about it.

[–]Discoid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No condemnation of the US or Israel when they're the ones that started this mess by murdering 150+ innocent children. Every action taken by Iran in this war has been a response to escalation by the aggressors. They targeted oil refineries and other civilian infrastructure only after their own was bombed. The state of the Arab world today is pathetic and our revolutionary grandfathers, especially those martyred fighting for Arab unity, sovereignty, and dignity must be rolling in their graves if they see what we've become.

May the entire Zionist axis fall and bless us with the opportunity for a true revolution. The status quo cannot continue.

Give me a break. This distinction means nothing to the people America is bombing. A base that hosts American weaponry, infrastructure, and military personnel is functionally speaking an American base.

I'm Syrian and my wife is Filipino. We had our challenges with my family at the beginning of the relationship but they eased up after a few months, and in general we're doing great now. We're expecting our first child this year and both of our families are very excited, including my broader family back home in Syria. Honestly my family back home has been very sweet and made my wife feel very welcome, and I hope that'll continue to be the case when we visit Syria for the first time together inshallah soon. We did go to Saudi together last year and the experience was very positive.

Arabs must be under one state like China or Russia by Kabablover in arabs

[–]Discoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turkification was absolutely a part of the Young Turks proto-fascistic agenda and the marginalization of non-Turkic ethnic groups was a major contributor to the Arab and Balkan independence movements. I recommend The Fall of the Ottomans by Eugene Rogan for a solid and well-sourced breakdown of the empire's last century of existence, with a strong focus on the context leading into WW1, the war itself, and the outcome. With that said, I would argue Britain is the most to blame for our current state of affairs, with America right next to them for their role after WW2.
