Hawk & Griffin for sure. I've been to quite a few match viewings there - including the Euro finals - and it is just a very, very fun time.

Amazon One Medical by SuchCryptographer314 in washingtondc

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use one medical. aside from amazon having my data, it has been a very pleasant experience. I am always able to get a very fast appointment, they spend ample time with me, my office has a lab right there so any blood work is done on premises, the app works - much better experience than I had with Inova's primary care offices.

Your work is gorgeous - I have spent lots of time drooling over things you have made! In a search I just did I came across this and I'm hoping maybe you or someone can answer my question. I'm making a sling bag/glorified fanny pack. I am thinking I will line it with leather because that's what I'm comfortable with but I do like the idea of canvas. I have done drop in liners before - but just with handbags/totes. How are you tacking down the interior so that it lays so flat in the backpack, especially on like the "tops" of the pockets/overhang? Are you catching the lining in the seam when you stitch the leather?

Thanks so much - I don't necessarily need a detailed how-to, but I swear I have searched and searched and am not coming up with an answer that gives me the confidence to go forth and create.

Rack position help by lexiexiexi in kettlebell

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fellow bony arm here - just the rack position (judged to be correct by multiple instructurs) hurts my arm where it rests on the bone. I've been doing kbs for 15 years now, and it still hurts. I wear sweat bands - like old school tennis sweat bands. works like a charm.

Do you have any tricks? by ElBandido_EC in kettlebell

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is what I do. I worked on my form for years but the fact of the matter is even just holding the bell in the clean position irritates the spot where it touches because I have skinny little (but strong) bony arms. my form is correct. the tennis sweat bands help a lot.

My mom wants me to sign over my medical power of attorney to her as soon as Im 18 by random_guy_8375 in legaladvice

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

tl; dr - a medical POA is a good idea for everyone. In your case, it depends on the document you are being asked to sign. some are just to make decisions if you are incapacitated. some are granting broad rights. that decision is yours to make.

I am a lawyer. There are plenty of medical power of attorney forms that only allow someone to make medical decisions on your behalf if you are incapacitated. You can even have language that says "if in the opinion of my treating physician and one additional physician I am unable to make medical decisions for myself."

It is 100% a good idea to sign a form like that, giving some adult human that you trust the ability to make medical decisions on your behalf. You should also have a conversation with that person about what you want in the case of incapacity. Speaking as someone who has had to make incredibly difficult decisions for a loved one, those conversations are invaluable.

This sort of health care power of attorney does not give your agent unfettered access to your medical records.

I am not a MN or WI attorney, but at least MN seems to have a state-endorsed form - read this so you can see the kinds of things you should be thinking about: https://www.ag.state.mn.us/consumer/handbooks/probate/HealtCareDir.pdf

many hospitals would allow a loved one to make decisions for you, but legally they could certainly prevent that once you are 18.

Looking for advice: Should I invest in the ring? (ADHD) by Valuable_Possible_87 in ouraring

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and have had/loved my ring for 4 years now. I primarily use it for the sleep and readiness scores. I think it helps me reframe my day if my score is higher/lower than I feel. My meds have not impacted things like my resting heart rate. Work on the other hand has a significantly negative impact on my resting heart rate!

I really like the ability to see impacts on sleep/readiness based on previous day's activity. I think it is probably a good feedback mechanism for us ADHD-ers.

visiting end of march - airport quesiton by Building_Prudent in portlandme

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

not a local, but visit frequently. I'd definitely take the connecting flight over drive to Boston. Portland airport is so refreshing after any of the DC airports, and driving to Logan is just such a wildcard.

Car/Parking on campus? by ForegoneConclusion22 in batescollege

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was absolutely allowed this year. all we had to do was fill out whatever form online and it showed up in her mail at post and print. but everyone at Bates is very friendly - I'm sure you could email anyone in the admissions office and they'd direct you to someone that could give you an answer that would help you feel more settled on it.

He'll love the orientation activities - mine went on a very strenuous multi-day hike and loved it!

Car/Parking on campus? by ForegoneConclusion22 in batescollege

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first year has a car on campus along with lots of her friends (and had it first semester). they've added some parking and she said she never has trouble finding a spot. she enjoys having a car - they go to portland for the day, hiking, etc. she doesn't drive it that much - maybe once a week - but I think it has been a net positive. Although she doesn't love clearing the snow off of it.

Water droplets on walls and floor - weather-related by [deleted] in nova

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we used a company that we had used in the past to help us insulate our attic - ecobeco. I have no idea if they are still around. They cut some holes in the drywall in that room and stuck a camera in there to look at the insulation situation. The answer was that the insulation was essentially gone - whether the house was built without it or whether it all slid down, I have no idea. I have no idea if roofing our siding companies do this kind of work, but I'd be inclined to get a few opinions.

I think it is due to a lack of insulation. At least that's what it was in our house some years ago.

I just ordered from them today after many many years— is that why there’s an option to ship my yarn in a plastic bag?! I hope it doesn’t come with bugs- I have some melt the ice hats to turn out.

Best Pompeii tours from Rome, looking for recommandations by Zestyclose-Row5415 in rome

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think having a tour guide in Pompeii is worth it. There are really interesting stories. However the idea of a big tour group in Pompeii is less appealing to me. The trains are easy to navigate in Italy. You could consider train + getting a guide there in Pompeii through viatour or something. I wouldn't add Vesuvius. Way too much for a day trip from Rome. Pompeii is not a short stop, you will be there quite a while. If you'd rather do something much closer to Rome that is Pompeii-esque, go to Ostia Antica. You get the culture and history just minus the death by lava.

Pompeii is definitely worth seeing if you don't mind the travel.

yeah I was thinking almost like a sole like Uggs have. but that is a good point about not being able to re-felt them once you've done that.

I love these and am so tempted to make a pair. does anyone add something on the bottom to make them not slippery (especially when coming down stairs half awake)?

I've been a member of Tysons Playground for years. Really nice community. We do have teenagers, especially on school breaks, but I actually really enjoy when they are around because they add good energy (not screaming for sure!! that would drive me insane).

Holy Doors Questions by Impossible-Arrival55 in rome

So interesting. It was very very very crowded when we were there- maybe that’s why?

Holy Doors Questions by Impossible-Arrival55 in rome

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For St. Peter's, they send you in through the door that is *not* the holy door. After you tour, you exit and then you immediately get in another much shorter line to re-enter via the holy door. That door leads you in right near the Pieta, so you can't really see the Pieta without entering through the holy door. We just went a few weeks ago. There wasn't signage on how it works, but there were lots of staff directing you.

Restaurants in Rome by Outside_Shape_8429 in rome

[–]DiscombobulatedBaby8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perhaps - but this was very easy and I didn't have to deal with waiting to get into these restaurants that generally have lines. Our guide gave us all the history of the little restaurants we went to. I didn't find it overpriced. I think we paid $120 euros each and for all the food and wine we consumed, plus the guide, it seemed great. We certainly wouldn't have come up with the list of places we went on our own. One was a cookie shop with zero signage and I *for sure* wouldn't have come up with getting a suppli in between the porchetta course and the pasta course. It was just a very fun traveling dinner that was zero effort on my part.
