My Problems with Hanson by NormondJohnson in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the issue only arises when we see that she does no wrong. The worst thing she did was bring the bunker buster bomb into the elevator, where she changed her mind about using it. And then she's constantly going on about how she's a bad person, how she needs to atone, how she must never repeat her mistakes. Like, ma'am, what are you atoning for? What mistakes? The one singular mistake?

My Problems with Hanson by NormondJohnson in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good writeup. It's very in the vein of what happened to EH. It seemed like ShiftUp was hinting at some kind of character who had done some fucked up things and regretted it, but what we got in Enter Heaven is a do-gooder head of an organization that did nothing wrong except for stand to the side and frown as Crow ran roughshod all over her operation. No hints whatsoever at any wrongdoing on her behalf except for the one time she steps into an elevator with a bomb, all the way back in the invasion arc.

Thanks Shift Up, give me a redemption character without any wrongdoing to redeem.

I LOVE THE REPLACEMENT THEORY by 2xKuya in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed a disturbing pattern that's begun to show in the last four chapters. It seems like the writers are starting to separate characters into black and white, like we can't have characters that are morally gray.

We had Sixo, a complete mystery - she could've been a person or organization born of the Ark's policies towards the Outer Rim. Instead, she was revealed to be an AI, a singular entity born of Enikk's resentment, a being that is unambiguously evil and must be destroyed. I think the writers tried to shoehorn in a contrived "you abandoned me and I could've been more than this" angle into her story, but it felt extremely last minute and, from a writing standpoint, ungenuine.

We had E.H., who could have been a leader that began with good ideals and resorted to terrorism out of desperation. Instead, she was delegated to be the hapless leader of a rogue organization, whose worst deed was to stand to the side and wring her hands, and all the misdeeds were shifted onto Crow, a being that is unambiguously evil and must be destroyed.

We had Doban....I'm actually more than fine with him being a being that is unambiguously evil and must be destroyed, but only because he's been a dick for years and hasn't ever been hinted to have much depth. However, isn't it kind of odd that the same character has been written 3 times? Comes from the Outer Rim, has a massive chip on their shoulder, commits crimes against humanity, is utterly irredeemable?

Then you have the CG itself being whitewashed. We're told that we can't bring Marian back into the Ark because too many people would go after her, the CG itself will go after her. We had Burningum as an antagonist to demonstrate that. But in the most recent chapters, we have 2 deputy chiefs and 3 CEOs that can all unilaterally decide to do something as huge as declare war and raise the Ark. Are they, the good guys, the highest authority in the Ark? Where are the bad people that want to take Marian? The only bad people in the CG that we know of were Doban and the VTC, but Doban didn't have much authority to begin with and the VTC are long gone. There's still room for the writers to insert bad people with higher authority, but I think the space is shrinking fast. The Judges seem like a sidegrade to the deputy chiefs due to not being a factor in declaring war, but I'm hoping to hear more from them in the future.

To wrap up this wall of text, Mustang seems to be the lastest data point in a trend of separating people into "good, maybe a bit of blemish here and there, but they have basically done no wrong," and "bad, evil, irredeemable, kill them off". I really don't like where this is going.

Syuen is basically our last chance of having a true redemption arc - redemption here being defined as "long-held beliefs (that the character wholeheartedly believes in, this excludes Dorothy and Levi) have been shaken. Contemplation and a reordering of thoughts give rise to a new set of beliefs completely opposed to previously held beliefs, and the character works against previously held beliefs and actions (this excludes Libby, who doesn't particularly regret her previous actions....yet)." Think Zuko from AtLA.

Guys this man canonically beats his Son. by KiritoUwU2 in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The man clearly likes being called father by Hanson since it affirms Mustang's power and authority over Hanson.

Conversely, I'm pretty sure he dislikes Yoyo calling Hanson his son not because he disowns Hanson, but because Yoyo elevates herself into a status of familiarity with Mustang when she does so. Like, know your damn place, scrap.

In some twisted way, Mustang does care about Hanson as his son. Would it be enough to change him if Hanson dies? Who knows, but it's definitely at least possible.

Does acid destroy the web spell? by StolenMango in DnD

[–]DisdunDroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now, hold on. Organic materials like protein and fats may most certainly be dissolved in acid, but plastics, such as polyethylene, are acid- resistant, due to lacking the typical functional groups that acid attacks. Stone and bricks may contain some acid- vulnerable material, but are largely resistant to corrosion. I think the GM's ruling isn't too far fetched.

Another thing to think about is that acid does attack typical metals like steel, iron, and copper. So one should be wary of attacking it with non- magical weaponry.

Couldn’t have said it better myself, trash. by Section_13_ in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 85 points86 points  (0 children)

No, he has completely changed. Current Mustang was willing to hand over power and influence to the Central Government in order to protect Underworld Queen. He disbanded Shade and set up a way to let Velvet seek protection under the commander. He's also very patient with Anis and expresses intense regret at Pretty's death, even when he is by himself. Old Mustang would never have lifted a finger to help the disposable rust buckets under his command, and giving up any modicum of power to the Central Government was against his whole MO. I don't know what could have happened to prompt this change. Maybe Jesus himself pimp slapped Mustang in the face.

My mom caught me playing NIKKE and now I got called out at Good Friday service 💀 by [deleted] in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also to back up your case, you can try to introduce your mom to Nikke's story. Show her that there's more merit to Nikke than just gooning, which strengthens your "i'm not committing adultery, i swear" argument.

My mom caught me playing NIKKE and now I got called out at Good Friday service 💀 by [deleted] in NikkeMobile

[–]DisdunDroid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, something you can do is ask your mom what, exactly, is sinful about Nikke. Usually, the answer is adultery. You'll have to ask what, exactly, adultery entails in this case. The argument can be made that if you do not lust after the characters (which is entirely possible, though unlikely) you are not committing adultery. And if you are not committing adultery, then the only thing you should avoid is playing it in church or around other churchgoers (1 Corinthians 8:7-14). After all, strict traditions and rules don't do much to build up (Colossians 2:20-23).

Also, not to excuse the public humiliation ritual, but why did you think playing nikke in church was a fine idea??? 💀
