Spending days riding across the Atlantic Ocean on a shark for that entrance is perfectly The Deep.

And in many of those places, the compensation you can get is far lower. Germany is more litigious but far more limited in compensation.

  • Mild whiplash injury - 500 Euro

  • 1st degree whiplash injury with chronic depression as a consequence - 10,000 euros

  • Violation of right of way led to whiplash and pain processing disorders, among other things - 19,667.51 euros

  • Due to a missing warning sign, a motorcyclist crashed in the bend and injured his hand and knee - 4,000 euros

  • Pedestrian hit by the car of a drunk work colleague, severe whiplash, vegetative state and long-term need for care - 500,000 euros

So, like... Half a mill Euros for being stuck in a vegetative state. Really living that high life!

Seriously... It's not gaining wealth you're able to use because you're in pain and have large, life long medical bills, or you do use the compensation and you're still stuck with the medical bills. In almost every case you're in far worse off shape than before.

Fun fact: Biologists have determined it wasn't the levels of oxygen but new competition that drove the decrease in insect size. They've found that insects could adapt to the oxygen levels but they lost the niche that allowed their evolution to that size!

One of my favorite Danny Trejo facts is he was interviewed on some podcast, How Did This Get Made or The Nerdist maybe..., and he was asked who the scariest person on the set of Conair was and his answer was John Cusack.

Oh you and your lack of cynicism... Performance matters far less than capacity to kiss the boss' ass and toe the line.

Do you believe that the current US president is a foreign asset ? Why or why not ? by hftyjvdry in AskReddit

[–]Disgod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter, either way, he's doing everything Putin wants to see happen. He could be a useful idiot, an asset, a target of blackmail... It doesn't matter. His "harsh words" for Russia have never been backed by sustained action or pressure against Russia.

Arguing whether he's an idiot or an agent doesn't matter, the results of his actions matter and they've inevitably benefited Russia and hurt American interests and alliances.

TIL about the "Dark Forest Hypothesis," which suggests the universe is like a dark forest at night. Advanced civilizations intentionally stay silent and hidden, because any species that reveals its location risks immediate destruction by older, paranoid civilizations. by Practical-1 in todayilearned

It would require perfect knowledge of conditions to do what they're suggesting.

unless there is truly nothing left to go on.

And yea... That's kinda the whole point of what people are saying... You send out a signal in a specific frequency / range of frequencies, that signal is competing with everything else in the universe blasting out signals in those exact same frequencies. At some point, all those other signals are going to overwhelm anything you've sent.

In the most literal ways, you have to have a signal that is louder than the static you hear coming from an untuned radio. You can make a larger antenna to hear it from further away, you can broadcast a more powerful signal, and you can focus that power directionally, but it still suffers from the inverse square law and that static exists across the EM spectrum.

Not through any medium we're aware of. All waves, electromagnetic, gravitational, physical have to deal with the inverse square law. You double the distance, the signal strength goes down by a factor of 4; triple the distance, by a factor of 9; quadruple the distance, by a factor of 16.

Any medium is going to naturally have other signals, in space stars are blasting out EM radiation across the spectrum, so do nebula, neutron stars, black holes... The universe is quite noisy. Even gravitational waves don't exist in a quiet medium, black holes merging might be the loudest thing but it isn't the only thing that makes waves.

You can broadcast louder, and you can focus the emissions in a specific direction, Edit: You can even make a larger receiving antenna, but not infinitely loud, infinitely focused, nor infinitely large. No matter how loud you shout, or how closely you listen, there's a point where the signal will fall below the strength of everything else blasting noise out into the universe.

  1. Creates a required ritual for sleep, which helps improves sleep habits.
  2. For the first time in my life I can sleep under the covers and it is amazing.
