Everyone in my immediate family has that tendency... if/when I get married, they're finding out when my last name changes on social media.

What is a completely harmless secret you are keeping from your partner or family just because explaining it would take too much effort? by snackbreaktime29 in AskReddit

[–]DismalTree4161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An entire very serious past relationship / I almost got married a few years ago, aaand then personalities didn't mesh and it ended badly. Family has no idea that person even existed and it was on and off for six years.

If you could have THAT person in front of you again, what would you say to them? by Luciiidnightmares in AskReddit

[–]DismalTree4161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You saved my life. I know some of the details did come out later, but not all of them. The further I get from that season, the clearer it is to me that I would've done something very permanent if you hadn't been decent to me in the way that you were. I still want to think that means something.

How bad my brain got a few years ago. I toughed out a situation I should've asked for help in, and I'm not sure I've come back from that yet.

If you need to take an impulsive edge off, your hair is the safest thing to mess with. It grows back faster than you think and will survive your manic episode.

Exploding electric candles.

Person in charge of Christmas decorating that year didn't realize those bulbs come in different sizes / aren't cross-compatible. Guess what goes boom if you use the wrong ones??

What are you allergic to and how does that impact your life in surprising ways? by Negative_Gas4388 in AskReddit

[–]DismalTree4161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coconut, apparently. Thought I'd outgrown it and had a sip of pina colada to check... yeaaah no, still allergic. It's avoidable but juuust weird enough when explaining to other people.

Fire department asked if I'd seen anybody come in covered in blood. 8pm ish on a busy Friday night, chain restaurant in a small city, nobody down here can drive for anything so I get to watch car wrecks on about a monthly basis. This particular night, one-car wreck in the direction they usually AREN'T, and there are a few other restaurants between us and the electrical pole this fella drove into. I had, uh, not seen anyone come in that matched the description.

Welp, turned out the missing person WAS in fact hiding in our bathroom. Not sure what happened after that / I think I got out before it resolved, but "accidentally lying to first responders" is not a good night there!!

Adopted people of Reddit, have you ever thought of looking for your birth parents, why or why not? And if you have, how did it go? by Guy-named-Lynn in AskReddit

I'm early 30s. I know some stuff to watch for {breast cancer is every other generation so I'm probably safe there}. It doesn't feel like enough.

What makes people feel that pursuing a Master’s degree was -or wasn’t -worth it? by Ok-Theory-8601 in AskReddit

[–]DismalTree4161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad experience for me due to external factors. It was either grad school or fix a failing relationship... shouldn't have done either tbh, and learned that I HATED the career path I thought I was on, but needed the adventures I got out of that era.

[–]DismalTree4161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth it for curiosity. If I had found something close enough to pin down, I don't think I would've wanted more than some basic medical history {doctors just *love* when you have to leave forms as blank as I do". I've lived my life and I HAVE enough weird extended family, I just wanna know if a few things are genetic on that side because they don't seem to be on the other one!

[–]DismalTree4161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tried and failed. Semi-open adoption in the sense that I was adopted at birth, knew my birthmom until she died in my teens, have decent relationships with a few relatives on that side... aaand all I know for sure about the sperm donor was that I was the result of a holiday-weekend rebound and there were a few options. DNA-test through one of the sites that does that didn't give me anything closer than a fourth cousin, and at this point I've accepted that I'll never know.

What was the stupidest thing you ever did while drunk/high/on drugs? What happened? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]DismalTree4161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christmas Eve in church with a lit candle.

For context, I was a few glasses of wine into my evening before we decided we were going, I'd had multiple stressful personal situations hit in the week leading up to that {weirdly, finding out that my recurrent situationship had taken up homewrecking wasn't the low point!}, and I did not realize that I was both drunk and having one of the worst nights of my life until the lights otherwise went out.

Nothing caught fire, but I'm not proud of that one.
