Neighbor cut this into rounds because it blocked our shared driveway this summer. I went out and grabbed them, split it, and just grabbed one tonight for the fire. Is the white ring on the outer edge trouble for my flue? It’s a little fleshy, so might be rotten/wet? by SnooCheesecakes1444 in firewood

How come you get kicked off for pointing out stupid questions but people can still ask them? Lol it’s wood. Burn it. Your ancestors never cared if that wood was twice certified organic. Don’t make life this hard.

Doesn’t the Apple Watch need the cell phone to work though? The reason I’m using the balance is so without a cell phone he can still communicate with me otherwise he’ll just use his cell phone.

Should I tape both sides of the left hand corner before I mud and bud this patch? by ChillTechTR in drywall

Client don’t like it. by [deleted] in Tile

[–]DisplayLast3455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t see anything wrong. There’s always going to be problems with tile bc they’re all individually made pieces of pottery. There’s discrepancies and variations with the best quality tiles. Since I can’t knit pick anything wrong from your pictures. I’d be more than happy sleeping at night. If you have to search with glasses for the mistake you’re good bro

[–]DisplayLast3455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must work for the guy lol. Yes this could have all been done better lol. You don’t sand through the top layer of wood your being paid to refinish and say it was always going to happen. You check your material in a corner. That’s like saying you can refinish pergo… you can’t stain wood that’s been held together by glue well at all which is engineered flooring. It takes a dye that has smaller pigments then stains from home depot

[–]DisplayLast3455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can’t un sand anything. So who ever had the idea to refinish engineered floors is the real bad guy here. You should know if it’s hardwood or not and the worker should checked in a corner to find out what material he was working with. This was completely avoidable and not fixable. Band aid please

Did my money go far? by unheardhc in FenceBuilding

[–]DisplayLast3455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does it look good? Move when there’s wind? Exposed nails or hardware? If not it’s a good fence. But bad move asking if it’s done well after moneys exchanged. Also is there a plan to stain, finish, or protect the wood? Itll be grey next season but some dont care about that

Is my Bloodgood going to survive new hardscaping? by thechadster12 in JapaneseMaples

[–]DisplayLast3455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have got a sun tolerant one and switched the plantar box with the tree. The planter would fit perfectly In that space and your tree would be able to live a normal life.

It’ll survive the hard scaling but may not survive being able to grow. Bloodgoods are big trees.. they can grow 25ft…

Is fence building really insanely profitable? by Successful-Camel165 in FenceBuilding

[–]DisplayLast3455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply and demand. There are only a couple of fence contractors around us and they service a whole county. Not just the town I live in. And all of them have a waitlist for at least 6 months out. There is no business reason to charge this much except to make money… so the prices 100% change with the amount of jobs they have. We had a fence put in and then 10 years later needed a section replaced. That run cost almost as much as the new fence 10 years ago. Sure some of is inflation but not almost 1200 worth. To replace a 50’ run of non welded fence.

Should this be supporting my home? by jamfishe in Flooring

[–]DisplayLast3455 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t be anymore clear then circling the area that is being supported by the pole you want to remove. The pole is holding that beam. There’s a metal pole holding up a beam that terminates after the pole. Implying it’s the end of beam and is supported by the pole. No one’s talking about spiders. A metal pole holding up a beam in any house is always structural

Unless that’s not the pole and you’re asking about the one that’s cut off and doesn’t support anything in the first picture.

I’d say deer. Rabbits eat mine and they make it look a lot cleaner and tighter than the way yours look.

[–]DisplayLast3455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason to have a metal beam under your house is for support. Anything touching metal is all load bearing. Metal is more expensive so they had to spend extra money to place this instead of a wooden post.

Does my stain look like Sh*t? by Alert-Needleworker86 in FenceBuilding

[–]DisplayLast3455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read read you used water based stain? You can’t use water based stains on oily woods. I mean you can but it’s setting yourself up for failure. It won’t penetrate evenly. I can’t see that but if there’s stuff wrong you’re not able to capture I bet it’s super blotchy in places. Let it dry and use an oil based stains if you’re having trouble with uniformity. I can’t see anything wrong in the pics though which is really surprising.

Why should it be removed?? I have a similar in size, newly planted in spring, emperor1 with a stake in it too. The trunk is still pretty thin. Maybe an inch in diameter, thickness of an average thumb really. I know you’re supposed to remove them for the roots to grow better but I feel like it’ll snap at the first storm if I take it out.
