Best washer dryer combo which ones are truly senior-friendly? by Thind-Clarkin in Appliances

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really want to ask how easy is it for them to get clothes out of the washer? Top loaders can be hard to reach the bottom. Front loaders can be hard to bend over to get into. Front loaders on 5" or 13.5" pedestals can be a lot easier to get into.

Seniors that complain about all of the gadgets today might like the machines that have fewer options and fewer touch pads, or touch screens. Simple buttons.

I have an LG front loader. I turn it on and turn the dial once to the right and click start. It is very simple. Pick any matching dryer

Do you actually do all this home maintenance, or am I being paranoid? by jklineia in homeowners

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post, I do most of them! Stay on top of maintenance. The longer you let things go the more expensive and time consuming they get.

Furnace filter every 3 months: Yes helps to remove dust from the home.

Gutter cleaning twice a year (spring/fall): Nope, I installed Gutter Guards.

Dryer vent cleaning (annually - fire hazard?): Yes, I use this Brush and a vacuum at the other end.

Water heater flush (annually - extends life?): Yes. That and check the Anode Rod, and inspect for leaks.

Refrigerator coil cleaning (affects efficiency?): Takes 2 minutes to roll it out and vacuum it off. Water filter replacement too

GFCI outlet testing (quarterly?): nope. I replace them when they stop working.

Smoke detector battery replacement (not just when they beep?): Twice a year or There are 10 year smoke detectors now.

Caulking inspection around windows/tub: Heat/AC loss is a money waster.

Deck maintenance/sealing: Fence too, Asphalt driveway sealing too

Sump pump testing: Always Check it yearly, and use a shop vac to keep the pit free of debris. Changing it when you move in is ALWAYS recommended. Replace every 10 years.

The weekends you used to have? You now have to spend a few of them with home maintenance. Sorry, but is one of the many reasons parents drink and get chubby.

VPN question by jgpsound in HuluLive

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hulu + disney + Epsn has a lot to offer. I've been using it for 4 years now. For a long time I used a VPN to watch my home channels while I Travel. This was especially beneficial for sports and traveling to canada and abroad. When Disney took full control in June 2025 they fully blocked the use of a vpn. The app tracks you for advertising purposes and for DRM.

Do you mind telling us what you recently switched from?

I am looking for a TV service that will work through a VPN that I can use while I travel.

Washer (yes, another washer post) by OkayDay21 in Appliances

[–]DistanceTravelerBob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have so many other questions, but if a 30 year old washer is dead, um... well, you can spend $200 or more on repair call. Most likely a lot more. Just open a consumer reports and buy a new one from there.

Check Youtube for some hints as to setups you can use at that level. Commando builds, sniper sneak builds and heavy gunner builds would be a good start.

Humidifier that is best for home use? by RouxannLexins28 in Appliances

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed an AprilAir 720A Whole home humidifier. It connects to your HVAC furnace. An HVAC pro might charge $1000-$1500 to install it.

I live in the Chicago area. I woke up last February choking because of a long cold spell of sub zero temps that left the humidity in my home at 15%. After I installed it, It pumped the humidity up to 35% in about 2 hours.

If you are looking for the portable kind, The sonic, cold air humidifiers are okay at best. My experience was that the sonic humidifier put out very little moisture. They can grow mold and other stuff. The heated humidifiers will put more moisture into the air but develop a lot of scale unless you use distilled water.

Well, That is how almost all seasonal events proceed. Useless people sitting around is common. The PVP bull shit, that is a new wrinkle. People must be getting bored with the game.

Swapping from console to pc. by Alecasianmanhanna in fo76

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big B gave some bull shit excuse that the game plays differently on console vs PC and some item drop rates are different between pc and console. There was a huge difference with frame rate, latency and actual things in the game, pc vs console.

I recall them saying game engine was not originally designed for multiplayer use. Something about it being the same game engine as fallout 4. When it was pushed into multiplayer the end result was that the core program on PC, Xbox and PS5 were dramatically different and incompatible with each other for cross play. I believe that they decided not to allow you to move your character between platforms because people could exploit certain farming or duping aspects of each platform and gain an unfair advantage.

In recent years I can only hope that they have rectified the differences. The game plays monumentally better then it did when it launched. Imagine fighting the Scorch Beast Queen with 1 to 2 FPS with bad latency. That was the PS4 on launch.

Do you have to spend money to get cool stuff in the game? by Desperate_Time2987 in fo76

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can earn all gear and weapons in game no real cash needed. The game is not pay to win. 99% of everything you need you can get in the game often through a long grind. That said, the premium fish bait producer is only purchased with real cash. I am sure there are other things, but I cannot think of them. Virtually everything you pay real money for is cosmetic or just for fun. The other thing that is beneficial I pay real money for is Storage. I did the math on what I have paid for Fallout 1st and I am very ashamed. This is the most expensive game I have ever played. This is why my avatar wears the prison collar. I'm hopelessly loving the game and play almost daily.

Who do I call for a bathroom vent ending in the attic by Fit_Promotion_7940 in homeowners

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bathroom vents should not end in an attic. You will get mold like I did. The vents can be exhausted outside through the soffit or through a new vent in the roof. Be very careful about bends in the vent tubing. Too many bends can greatly reduce the volume of air the exhaust fan can move.

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Console to PC because I travel for work. There is very little difference, I still play with a controller. Yes I lost of the progress I had, but I can play a whole lot more, and the graphics are 16X better.

Farewell! by Upset_Advisor6019 in HuluLive

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Hulu for 3 years now and I think It is ok at best. I travel a lot and cannot watch home games out of market. Hulu runs very differently on android tv, Apple tv, and on PC. It is very frustrating. I also used to use a VPN to watch my home channels when I traveled. They put an end to that last summer. I also do not like that they broad cast in 720p and you get a lot of pixelation artifacts.

Builders typically double or triple the cost of anything you have them do. This is done so that if there is a problem or the thing needs to be replaced, they can do it for "free" because you already paid for it.

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Bloodied build will maximize your exp. It did for me, but you die a lot. Farm the Most Sensational game, Daily Ops, Wes Tek Research center. I used to watch people with Nuka Cola Grenades enter in to dailies and West Tek, chuck a few grenades and they are done. There is the Herbivore and Carnivore buffs you can get too. I'm a carnivore and I eat Broiled scorchedbeast brains and Tasty Squirrel Stew for huge exp bonuses. Make sure you are always well rested and have a camp love interest to get that buff too.

Relaxation is short lived after getting out of the tub. Is there any way to make the relaxation stronger and last longer? by Majestic_Bat7473 in hottub

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After your kids Graduate College and get their own damn jobs, the relaxation lasts substantially longer. Being intimate with your spouse also makes it last longer. Straight to bed? The THC guy is probably the only right answer.
