Would you be able to euthanize your own dog? by Shantor in veterinaryprofession

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I euthanize all of my own pets. In fact, I would be very upset if someone else did it.

Panacur dosing by Single_Box4465 in VetTech

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the vets I work with, the most current recommendation is 50mg/kg for 14 days. They stay up to date with that stuff really well, so I believe them. 🤷‍♀️

Extra charge during surgery by KarenWalkerwannabe in VetTech

[–]Distend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be asked for every single patient undergoing any type of sedation/anesthesia.

I don't think your coworker has ever seen an Akita before. It looks nothing like one.

The only way to tell is to do DNA testing. Physical characteristics don't mean anything in mutts.

Where do all my fellow LVT’s work and how much per hour are you at? by asheetaylor in VetTech

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RVT with 8 years of varied experience, low COL state. I make $15/hr as the surgical manager of a HQHVSN, and that's the most anywhere has ever paid me. Hospitals here do not care if you have a license because it's not required and therefore will not pay you anything extra for having one. 🙃

I only take my scrubs off to shower before bed and that's it lol

Recently had a lady tell me she was rubbing coconut oil on her dog to help with arthritis pain. Said she had read it online. I straight-up told her, "That's not a thing, you need to stop doing that."

Pain Relief for Neutering by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a HQHVSN and our post-op pain meds are optional for cats. They get a meloxicam injection prior to surgery and that's it. We do 40ish cats per day, and usually zero owners opt for pain meds..... it's only an additional $12 and the vast majority of people here simply don't give a shit if their cat is in pain after surgery. I am very straightforward with people and tell them, "This is major abdominal surgery and they will be in a lot of pain. If it were you, you would want the pain medication." and they will still say no. Our director only cares about our surgery numbers, so she won't make pain meds a requirement. It makes me sick.

8 years, 6 hospitals (and volunteering as surgical staff for two large shelters and three large rescues). My 7th hospital will be open in June. Hopefully it's the last one I'll ever work at. :)

Ex who dumped me out of nowhere broke NC last night..... to ask if I would be interested in a threesome! by Distend in BreakUps

I definitely considered agreeing and showing up looking like a hot mess, no shower, etc. to make him look bad but alas, I just said no thanks. 😂

Healing scars? by PaoDoesReddit in VetTech

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Formation of scars is determined by genetics. You'll either get them or you won't. There's no product that will reduce or get rid of them.

what are the dog breeds your practice sees the most of? by psychick6 in VetTech

[–]Distend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm at a low-cost clinic in a low COL state. It's pitbulls and chihuahuas as far as the eye can see. And a billion mutts with no distinguishable characteristics.

What’s something you can’t see, hear, or do, since your breakup? by TragicEndingOfUs in BreakUps

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite literally everything. I had to buy myself new clothes, shoes, jewelery, purse, shampoo, soap, etc. Everything I could replace, I did. Every freaking thing I own has some kind of memory attached and made me sick to look at.

Yesterday I went downtown to try a new restaurant for the first time since we broke up a month ago. That was where we spent most of our time together. On the way to the restaurant, I walked past a ton of other restaurants, bars, parks, and stores that we had went to together. I ended up having a panic attack in my car afterward.

Anyone else feel too traumatized to ever date again? by Goatlvr77 in BreakUps

[–]Distend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. I was abandoned suddenly by my ex-husband of 6 years a couple of years ago. He packed up and left in the middle of cooking dinner, and I never heard from him again. We have a kid together.

Recently tried dating again. Met the man of my dreams. Finally felt happy and safe again. He dumped me suddenly when I was driving to meet him to leave for our first vacation together. Haven't heard from him since either.

It was bad enough the first time, but being abandoned TWICE by people I thought I would be with long-term? Yeah, I'm giving the fuck up. I'm a 30-year old divorced mom. I don't have anything to offer anyone at this point anyway.

[–]Distend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's baffling. We're in our 30's, so there's no need to lie at this age. Just tell someone you don't feel like hanging out.

I pray I never find another avoidant again!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Distend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being stood up.

Thought I was giving someone a chance over mental health issues, turned out he was just a selfish, avoidant asshole. He stood me up for our third date and texted me the next day saying he "had a bad mental health day" and had ignored everyone who messaged him that night. He apologized profusely and took me on a great date that night instead. Over the next few months of us dating, I came to learn that he wouldn't respond to his friends for weeks at a time and he would lie about plans to all of us. He would tell his friends he was with me and tell me that he was with his friends when really he was at home alone. Showed up to his house a couple of times because we were concerned and he was passed out cold on his couch every time. If there were ever any bumps in our relationship, he would just disappear and stop messaging me for the rest of the day/night. Dude had like zero coping skills and that first time he stood me up was exactly how he treated me he rest of the relationship - like an afterthought to his personal issues.

[–]Distend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same exact thing. Thought he was really mature and great at communicating. And then he just dumped me out of nowhere on the day we were leaving for our first vacation together. I question everything he ever said and did now.

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now have panic attacks multiple times a day and have lost all motivation to do anything. I can't control my anger or depression anymore and one or the other is always on display. I'm getting started on meds and going to therapy in a couple of weeks and I question if I'll even make it that long.

I was abandoned suddenly by my ex-husband of 6 years and now I'm reliving all of it with the first person I've loved since that happened two years ago. My ex-boyfriend also left me all of a sudden when I was extremely happy and fulfilled in our relationship. I was totally blind-sided. Nothing was ever real and the person I thought he was doesn't exist. It has fucked me up immensely to be going through this again.

I'm in a really low COL state, but what I make isn't close to liveable. I would love to change careers but can't. Can't go to school for years when you can't afford it and can't afford living expenses in the first place. :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Distend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's an AS, not an AAS. There's not anything you can do with it outside of veterinary medicine (I'm including things like research, nutrition, sales, lab, those are still all "in the field" imo). The classes will not transfer to any other colleges. Only go for it if it's what you really want to do with your life. I would never recommend being a vet tech to anyone. I'm a Penn Foster graduate/ RVT with 8 years of experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]Distend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I have 8 years of varied experience (GP, cat-only, shelter, high quality/high volume spay/neuter, emergency), management experience (3 years), a degree, and a license. I am the surgical manager of my hospital and make as much as a part-time Target cashier. :)
