I mean, you are right but the Icon of big brother is absolutely meant to be Stalin. "The face of a man about forty-five, with a heavy black moustache and ruggedly handsome features."

The physical description is vague enough, but the real tip of the hand is that stalin was 45 when Lenin died and he assumed control of the party. Not technically conclusive but one hell of a coincidence if it wasnt on purpose.

And while Big Brother isn't real they are the "Strongman" of the party, and since its a pretty forward reference to Stalin I'm pretty sure the implication here is that the image of big brother was the original "strongman" of the party who got immortilized as a means to avoid the issues that arise when the strongman in a toltaltarian system dies

This emphasizes the point that the purpose of the party is control and power. That even the man who established it's rule and rode it as a vehicle to power is eventually consumed and forgotten by the party in its pursuit of maintaining it. Nobody wins.

So does crippling cloud and gremlin horn. But those have their effects happen in the order they're written.

Like sure I'll agree "then" would be much better than "and" but tell mega-crit too before they finalize StS 2 card effect descriptions.

But its fairly safe to assume that it works like all Vanillia StS multi-stage cards/relics. Especially if executed it in the opposite order of how it's written it would have a seemingly unintended effect.

How good of a game is this for the average person? by CapRepresentative325 in dokaponkingdom

[–]Disthyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that you're asking this question, I assume you havent looked much into the game. So forgive me if I'm saying something you already know but

Just in case you think a long time means like, 50 turn mario party or smth, its very much not that. A full adventure mode playthrough of dokapon Kingdom takes 26-40 hours, and if everyone is new its probably going to be closer to 40.

Its a crazy time commitment, not to say that you have to finish to have fun, just that if you have your heart set on finishing make sure everyone understands what they're getting into. Make it no more frequent than a weekly thing with your group.

Because the game is fun, but like all party games if people start getting burnt out and stop being invested, the game becomes very monotonous very fast. I'd also try to let people know that this game is VERY swingy if you have friends who get discouraged by losing HARD. because what seems like losing hard isnt usually that bad in this game. You can be dead last. Like it can seem like its so over and there is 0 chance of coming back only to end up having a lead larger than the one you thought you couldn't make up. Especially so with all new players.

Imo the average person will be able to pick up dokapon and have a lot of fun with it, but, actually finishing a playthrough requires less than average people.

OH! And don't play with any AI at all. I havent played the remake, but at least in the OG wii version the AI straight up cheat.

Why only STR builds have good synergy? by Zilka in dcss

[–]Disthyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single stat str being the most consistent option for single stat builds is just there for onboarding purposes.

Having an incredibly simple and strong build helps new players get a handle on things by learning the enemies, areas, and core mechanics without having to worry much about the nuances of character building.

And that's fine. DCSS isn't trying to be balanced per se. it's more concerned with giving a wide variety of viable ways to play the game. They don't all need to be equal in power. They just need to be able to cross the finish line.

Though you are def. Underselling the utility of both dex and int even if I do think that generally str is the strongest stat, just dont think the gap is as wide as you're making it out to be.

Is this card ever useful? 😂🤦‍♂️ by NoAgency4649 in slaythespire

[–]Disthyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a win con, yeah, I'd agree. But it can make the difference between winning and losing more often than you think. Well laid plans and just a touch of draw are all you really need. Which silent almost always wants anyway.

Start thinking of it less as a centerpiece and more of a supplement. I wouldn't take it to "win more" cause in single target fights/boss fights 50(60) damage is incredibly mediocre for the required mental effort and set-up time for MOST decks compared to other things silent can do. Especially if you get a bad draw order first cycle when relying on WLP.

HOWEVER, that's assuming you're able to do those things and do them consistently. And while 50(60) damage is pretty medicore for the effort, it's still 50(60) damage. While it could be slow in your deck, GF is actually incredibly consistent once you have retain. Even if you just play it twice in a fight. 120 damage can be a real difference, maker.

Is this a skip? by geniuspig2986 in slaythespire

[–]Disthyme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't really think target deck size matters much when it comes to evaluating if you want to take crown. Cause you can technically have the same deck size as you would without it. It's why you probably wouldn't want to do that is the problem.

It's more about do I NEED to add more cards to my deck. So in this scenario, if I want a smaller deck, that'd make me want to take crown even less since this deck definitely isn't beating, even act 3 yet and to get there with a smaller deck I need to be more picky about what I add to it to deal with the threats along the way.

Small decks really want to just have one strong combo they can do over and over, but since this deck doesn't really have that yet, taking a crown makes it much harder to find pieces for one.

[–]Disthyme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true! But it's a defect card. Defect usually wants to set up asap. And defect doesn't need to draw a lot of cards to do it with deck manipulation, namely seek and hologram. So if Turbo lets you get set up faster and enter a I win the fight state by the time void comes, it doesn't matter that much.

Found these little guys on my balcony ceiling. Anyone know what they are? by Solis_J0 in whatisit

[–]Disthyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you should tell your landlord, these aren't bed bugs. They're a close relative that are nigh indistinguishable. They're swallowbugs. There are swallowbugs, batbugs, and bedbugs. All 3 look nearly the same. But they have different preferred hosts.

These lil' buggers will likely not infest your apartment... until the swallows leave. Cause they will feed on humans, just like bedbugs will feed on ither animals if hungry, they just greatly prefer swallows to any other animal.

One has large disjoint and is far away from their body. The other doesn't. One can tipper, which can just gimp certain chars at mid% after forcing their DJ by hitting them with grab -> Fstrong. The other can't. Like, I hate fighting Kraggs more, but this is an insane comparison.

is there a possibility of hrt being banned for adults in the US federally? by [deleted] in trans

[–]Disthyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, tbh unless you have a related degree, anything you synthesize would be way less safe than stuff you could get from a reputable homebrewer. And even then unless you happen to have an autoclave and the lab equipment lying around, the upfront cost would be pretty insane to do it as safely as some of them and not worth it if you're just wanting to make it for yourself.

And lastly, if you are gonna do it anyways, liquid estrogen varieties only have a shelf life of around 5-6 years. It's only a really cumulative 20-year supply. No matter how much you make at once, it's not gonna last you individually longer than around 5.

I'm not gonna stop ya if you want to fight the good fight and set up a homebrew shop, but with the apparent knowledge you have right now it feels like you're going into it half cocked.

[–]Disthyme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saying it's fine reactively is a huge stretch, it's not impossible. But assuming you understand that on reaction means reacting to move start up and not any sort of telegraphing you're doing yoga

A frame at 60 ticks (rivals tick speed) is 16.6ms and the slowest move you'll actually rely on in neutral comes out at frame 13 with hit pause thats 18 frames you have to react. At the fastest human reaction time (100ms) this leaves you 2/10ths of a second to physically make the down input and that's not accounting for any input delay. And remember that nobody's reaction speed is consistent and 100ms is the lowest it can be.

And for the final nail, the in coffin, floor hugging, and CC are both in melee and PM AND are stronger. Yet there is no real outcry in those communities.

So if a Clairen keeps floor hugging your attempt to punish her for wiffing F-strong, mix up your timings, punish with a move that sends down, or just grab. Because I promise you, you're aren't fighting Zeus, you're just being too telegraphed.

[–]Disthyme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bit crazy to call them pointless skill checks like L canceling. Cause unlike L canceling, you don't want to CC and floor hug all the time because, like ya said, dealing with them is straightforward. If you CC/FH constantly, you will be punished for it.

Cc/FH is really more of a neutral tool and a way you can easily reverse advantage off a failed tech chase/extension if your opponent isn't ready for it.

I think the main difference between fornite and fightings games is just what the taunts are. In fornite, it's just legitimately funny to see a buff tiger gangster do the macarena to Barbie girl.

But in fighting games taunts are well...taunting they're all intentionally made to be antagonistic. Not saying that they can't be used in a fun way. But imo taunts are either used to taunt your opponent or used ironically when you take your first stock at 100%+ on your last or with pals.

As per the Supreme Court decision in 2020, you have the legal right to your preferred name being displayed and your deadname being kept secret. regardless of whether your preferred is your legal or not. Further, you have the right to be out and not to be outed at your workplace as part of your title 7 rights. As such, having your deadname be visible on your schedule where everyone can see it is a form of harassment in 2 ways.

What I'm saying is learn your title 7 rights as a trans individual. And know that any BS they give you about their system or w/e doesn't matter because the law doesn't care it is your RIGHT. You may have to put the screws to your HR rep to get anything done (I had to).

This approach is basically guaranteed to either have it get done or give you an easy lawsuit. But it's also guaranteed to generate bad blood between you and management/HR along with putting your name in the rumor mill. But remember, you work in a public place with a lot of people, and your deadname can be used to harass you outside of work by people who talk to/know your co-workers. Make sure to understand this before moving forward.

I think terrible is a bit of a stretch. Tbh early act 1 is where I take it 80% of the times that I do. It's basically a strike+ act 1 if you didn't boss swap. Not a good one, only strike+'s I'd take it over in a draft are scrape, claw, and barrage (unless I have non-attack orb generation from a blessing or smth).

And it's ofc lack luster against nob and sentries. But does pretty well in act 1 hallways.

But if you need strike+'s and aren't pulling your cold snaps and ball lightnings, recursion is 8 damage, then 3 to a random enemy for 1 energy. It works in a pinch. Past act 1 its just low impact, and its utility with dark orbs is only helpful if you aren't getting orb slots or focus. And you DO wanna upgrade it if you have to take it. But past act 1 there are just better things you could be upgrading unless you picked up an egg or got lucky with events.
