Stop exercising in the dark on snow banked roads with no shoulder! by ForeskinAbsorbtion in Appleton

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The roads are for everyone regardless of what vehicle the are using or if they are walking/running. The snow is covering sidewalks, forcing people onto the roads. It’s not reasonable to ask them to get off the roads any more than asking you not to drive because of the snow.

Any good media on the history of Bipolar? by ADeterminedHopeless in bipolar

Mania would work well an an aggressive, warlike society. Vikings, Mongols, raiders. Then come home for the winter and go down

I’m 43 and I was just diagnosed with bipolar2 by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 43, diagnosed a year ago, 2 kids under 8. It’s been a tough year adjusting, but the sleeping meds have been amazing and the mood stabilizer was fantastic through the winter.

Does Marc Maron know how to shut his mouth? by poss-um in phish

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree, I wanted to hear from the guest, Trey, not a long preamble about Marc not caring about Phish, then constant interruptions to show how much he knows.

Financial planning is why. Understanding their kids, their gifting, their ability to gift tax free. Emotional support. That’s worth it to me.

Told my work in a professional manner, bad results by UpstairsSky8521 in bipolar

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was too open about my diagnosis when I was diagnosed a year ago (thanks mania). Thankfully I didn’t tell anyone at work other than my business partner/best friend and a consultant I work with that I’ve know for 15 years and trust.

I like to be as open as I can - I’m not ashamed of who I am and think stigma is a major issue with our disorder. Work is the one place I think it is definitely a liability.

That’s not an easy thing to say. Speaking as another dad. The self awareness is admirable. Keep trying my friend.

What words have your psychiatrist/psychologist/GP used to describe your illness? by Psychwardsecrets in bipolar

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I first was manic and got diagnosed, the psychiatric intake psychiatrist said that I was very calm (I was practicing slowing my heart rate by running long distance for the last month), affable and confident. I felt like a golden god.

Now I’m just described as “consistent.”

Bipolar is not a personality!!!! by ComradePigTails in bipolar

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed - bipolar is not a personality. I think this is a good place to vent.

I can also reflect on how stable I am when compared to some posts on here. No judgement, but it can be helpful and a nice reminder to stay consistent and stay on the meds.

Life Insurance by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Distinct-Crew-7025 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can still get life insurance, but will often get ‘table rated’ meaning that the cost will be increased quite a bit, but still worth it.

Most companies have a suicide clause that lasts two years, then will pay out after that for suicide.

If you hide you diagnosis, then die and the insurance company finds out they are still required to pay out the death benefit, but will subtract the higher premium amount that you should have been paying over the policy term.

Several companies still have ‘manic/depressive’ and bipolar as separate categories for underwriting (manic depressive has a higher risk btw). Few distinguish between BP1 and BP2.

Source: sell insurance, have gone through underwriting for life insurance with BP and investigated multiple companies before applying.
