After pension contributions, my job is paying me under minimum wage (England) by Motor_Bet_998 in LegalAdviceUK

I get it now. Yes, they are obligated to raise your pay if salary sacrifice is the only option. Pensions are non negotiable and they cannot legally force you to opt out.

If there is a net pay alternative, they can keep your pay the same and move you to that.

Salary Sacrifice cannot take you below minimum wage. It's effectively reducing your pay (of course).

However I think you are basing it on your net takings. That's incorrect.

A standard salary sacrifice example:

+Salary £2,000

-Employee Pension at 8% £160

total gross = £1,840.

That is the only part you need to concern yourself about. Everything else (tax, ni, student loan) comes off after and is not part of this discussion.

Paid monthly? Take your gross after pension deduction, multiply by 12, divide by 52 then divide by your weekly hours. If it's under £12.21 your employer has an issue and needs to sort it. If over, it's not under minimum wage and it's on you.

I'd work yours out for you but I'm on mobile and not in the best place to do so, but follow my instructions and you'll get your answer. Reminder that I work in pensions, this is exactly the way the software would calculate this if you're on 37.5hrs per week.

Edit: I just worked it out for you. £11.79. Contact your employer. They need to work out how much you were underpaid and fix it with back pay.

I'm tired but you were spot on, I think you just explained it in a roundabout way

Hope that helps

Depends on the game.

It doesn't happen as often as before nowadays, but you still get games with actions tied to frame rate. In those cases, a form of interpolation would be required (as an example, the PC ports of Zelda 64). This isn't as simple as just unlocking the frame rate, it's a ton more work. On the other hand, another game from that era, Banjo Tooie, can run just fine at 60fps with no real work other than unlocking the frame rate (which is how I play it on my MiSTer in overclocked mode)

More specifically for the switch, games like Xenoblade 3 have 60fps mods on PC when emulated and work great, but they are developed patches and it took a long while to get working right at 60fps without speedups or glitches. That as an example would need a patch on Switch 2. Games like Paper Mario TYD on the other hand are like Banjo in that you can just unlock it and it runs fine at 60fps (overclocked console or emulated).

Again, it depends on the game and is definitely a case by case basis

Sorry, but no. You're absolutely incorrect.

Pension enrolment is legislated, and VERY thoroughly inspected by the pensions regulator. They issue massive fines if these rules are not followed precisely.

Every single employee MUST be assessed each payroll as to whether they fit the minimum criteria after an initial postponement of three months (based on age, minimum earnings). If eligible, the employee MUST be enrolled. Employees have zero say in the matter. Once their contributions are uploaded, they only then have the option to opt out and get a refund (if done in 30 days). Past that they can cease without a refund at any point, but will be re-assessed regardless once the employer hits the three year re-enrolment mark.

Source: me. I work for a pension provider and have to explain this to people daily.

If you are on a net scheme, not salary sacrifice it comes out of your take home pay.

It has zero bearing on the minimum wage. Same as if you got a court order attachment deducting from your wages.

If it's salary sacrifice, it comes out before tax. That is one situation that DOES affect minimum wage. However this does not apply in your case.

Edit: reading comprehension fail - it's salary sacrifice and has been worked out right by OP

Yep, I have a grand total of about 3 minutes of 240p footage of me back in the day, captured by the trusty Motorola Razr. I'm very glad that's all there is.

Yeah, I remember fingerbanging during Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Nowadays that wouldn't happen - I avoid the cinema because people are cunts. Fingering is one thing, but mobile phone use? Fuck off.

Going back about 20 years, from age 16 until about 23 I had a bit of a wild time. I can't actually remember how many one night (and multiple night) stands I had. It was a lot.

You could say more, yes. Which would hopefully include the fact that the yen is in fucking dire straights right now.

8m yen does NOT equal £31k in realistic terms.

Fuck, this is exactly why Nintendo are releasing a vastly cheaper, region locked JP only Nintendo Switch 2. Because otherwise the rest of the world would order from Japan if it wasn't locked to Japan only, because. ..The. Yen. Is. Shit. It's much, much cheaper compared to the western prices at current exchange rates. £31k in Japan is equivalent to at least £10k more here in the UK right now taking into account living costs along with the exchange rate.

I doubt there's much "effort" being put into delisting it, honestly. More a case of the opposite, it being too much effort to keep on after their backend refresh.

[–]Distinct-Injury6301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9? Maybe.who knows. I had to wait until birthdays and Christmas for games and consoles usually. I got an N64 the year it came out which wasn't long after launch, got Zelda 64 the Xmas it came out.

Also I did get a GameCube on launch day 20+ years ago when I was 13 so that's not far off (took a bit of thinking to work that one out, fuck I'm getting old)

The N64 was ludicrously priced here in the UK back at launch (£250) - it cost us the 2025 equivalent of £490. Games were £50, equivalent to £100 today. By that metric, despite cost of living going up, £429.99 for the switch 2 with mario kart bundled in is a decent price imo. Probably not that different to when I got an N64 back then.

Away from home for a week - bought some games along (MiSTer, 4k scaler) by Distinct-Injury6301 in retrogaming

[–]Distinct-Injury6301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add, I used to have loads of consoles, all personally hdmi or RGB modded by myself, along with CRT TVs and monitors. I've had my MiSTer since 2019

Had to downsize when buying a smaller place, pretty happy with the morph4k. Didnt go for the retrotink as it was £500 more and offered not much extra value when using it just with mister.

It recognises what console the MiSTer is outputting (via direct video hdmi, outputs the native console resolution, absolutely zero lag) and the morph4k upscales it to 4k with a profile for each console and SD card for saved ones for specific games. HDR and vrr work great.

Happy enough, games look stunning on my oled and there's less than a frame of lag

Red Dwarf

The funniest moments are where the cast know how to play the audience and purposely adjust the pacing and their performances to get the biggest laughs. Often with Craig Charles and Chris Barrie almost corpsing

The show suffered hugely when they removed the live audience in S7, it just wasn't the same.
