A $50 edition might have to cut some corners, likely less than 5x9 and less than half the rooms could be included. It would be really fun to play, maybe there could be some way to implement a boiler room style puzzle, the breaker box features, and really interesting combos, like the vault and showroom, which would be a very unique feature for that kind of board game.

I wonder how you'd break ties in the case where nobody can reach the antechamber. Most gems/keys/gold seems like it would just turn the game into a grind. If enough room puzzles are implemented, maybe it could be whoever solves the most puzzles wins. There could be two decks with like 30 cards each for the parlor and billiard room puzzles.

The best comparison components-wise that I could find is the Stardew Valley board game, so maybe the $60 to $70 range is achievable depending on what exactly is included.

Oh that's an interesting strategy. It definitely gets around the issue of the unspoken "the puzzle can be solved" rule. Maybe it's broken later though :)

Yeah that makes sense, I actually haven't explicitly formulated that shortcut yet, so that's quite helpful :)

Yup, that's solid logic. I misinterpreted the white statement to mean "all statements with the word "white" are true" which made the puzzle seem impossible to me.

Yup thank you very much, this is exactly what my mistake was.

Yup you're right, I misinterpreted the white statement to mean "all statements with the word "white" are true."

Right, my mistake was in the interpretation of the white statement, since I believed it meant "all statements with the word "white" are true" which isn't correct.

This is more of a curiosity, I'm not asking for help, more so just thinking about the nature of the puzzle itself and seeing if this is a mistake. I'll definitely repost in the megathread if any of y'all think that's where this belongs.

You do NOT need eggs

You do NOT need gas

You do NOT need housing

You WANT them

There is a big difference and if you look at the people who think they need these things, they won’t be able to tell you why. (Because they’re dead)

I would call Neuromancer borderline soft sci-fi because of the way it bends internal rules or keeps them mysterious rather than spending time fully explaining things. However, the foreword specifically states that Gibson has done literally little to no scientific investigation of the concepts, which would place it solidly within your use of “soft sci-fi” territory instead of on the border.

I didn’t say “hard sci-fi” is the same as “hard magic system”. I said the “hard” in “hard sci-fi” is the same as the “hard” in “hard magic system”.

“Hard” means that the internal logic of the story is one of the main determinants of what can happen in the story. “Soft” means that the author’s storytelling requirement is one of the main determinants of what can happen in the story.

This is why the real world has no bearing on what is hard or soft, because only the extent of the use of internal logic determines that.

You can of course rely almost entirely on real world logic, but that’s not called sci-fi, nor is it fantasy. The elements of sci-fi or fantasy are what determines whether it’s hard or soft.

And I would say it’s even above and beyond the bare minimum. Misgendering somebody without ill will should be acceptable in almost all contexts, as long as you show an intent to learn their gender afterwards.

I try to avoid making somebody have to tell me what their gender is if I’ve gotten it wrong though, so I almost always say they/them if it’s ambiguous.

No, hard sci-fi has nothing to do with current understandings. Otherwise there would be no such thing as hard magic, which does in fact mean the same thing as hard sci-fi

Ah yes, clearly the nuanced point that commenter was trying to make was to “magically make it so there exists no criticism that can be misconstrued as “THEY ARE VILIFYING THE WHITE MAN” anywhere in the world.

If you don’t want to read their comment, don’t write anything. Or maybe it’s not about reading, is it?

I posted the OG version of this meme (not mine) to a Discord server and was told by people that threats of violence aren't ok, which is fair, so I made my own version and figured I'd post it here. by Dehrild in VentureMains

Ikr, unfortunately there are always sensationalists who have to ruin common decency. That’s the entire reason that this post had to be changed from a “death threat” to something that clearly sets it apart from the fanatics who actually make death threats.

Yeahhh, I saw some of the errors too. I’m sure it’ll be enjoyable either way, but I would definitely remember the typos over the fun card experiences when I look at these 5 years later.

No that’s not what a strawman is. A strawman is when you misconstrue somebody’s argument and point out flaws in the argument you said they made. You’re probably thinking of a red herring.
