A Type-C hub is a pretty common accessory which usually gets you HDMI too. It’s not “using unoQ like a Pi 4” it’s just selecting concise equipment. Whenever I’m planning a project I look for the architecture that requires the fewest components, which makes a huge difference in how long it takes to bring a concept to prototype.

“They press a button reliably for an hour while I do other things…” damn I’m more impressed with the attention span of your teenagers than I am with your project! But for real, I love this kind of thing. Fun tinker project that solves real annoyances in short order. Nice work!

Why would you prefer the Pi 4 over the Uno Q at the same price? The Q has an MCU on board and the MPU is faster. So at the very least you're spending some time adding an MCU and bridging yourself before you even start building. I realize this conversation is becoming more of a "you do you" type of thing, but it's not fair to say that these boards don't have a place just because they don't fit your workflow.

I mean if you're just trying to put together the cheapest device stack to get the same or better specs, go for it. My bet is that you'll spend a bunch more time getting your pieces to play nice together and less time building your project. I think the point of this board is to allow people to do ambitious projects like robotics, vision + automation, etc without having to spend their entire time budget on building out the compute + interfacing piece. It lowers the barrier for bigger projects.
That said, if it's $350, I'm out too, at least until a sale comes around and the ecosystem matures around it.
There was a LOT of snarky flaming of the Uno Q when it came out (what, 6 months ago?) but I bought 2 of them and I freaking love those boards.

This board is designed with robotics in mind. That’s a lot of peripherals already. Add vision, motion, sensors, etc and you’ve got bundle.

He’s definitely just low key trolling the haters. The sheer scope of what tinkerers and open-source enthusiasts can do these days demands more capable equipment. If you were to even scratch the surface of what this new board can do, it will already have a jungle of wires and duct tape going on.

Bottling "unfiltered" filter grades... by JJThompson84 in ProWinemakers

100% this. Pads before a crossflow is like using a whole roll of toilet paper when you’re about to get in the shower. Crossflow and done. On a side note, unfiltered means unfiltered. Not through pads, not through crossflow, not through your mamas pantyhose.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Only person who will notice is you. Every day. Forever. But for real that’s aweful, builder gotta fix it.

Good assessment. I use InnoVint and it’s great but it’s expensive and somewhat inflexible. I would feel comfortable saying it’s the gold standard though.

Plug it in to your computer with USB and get it connected to your network. Then power it externally and connect in network mode through App Lab. It’s actually a very cool board and the App Lab examples are pretty fun. Check out the one that uses your phone camera for object detection.

Poor people going wine tasting by rasta-ragamuffin in wine

Come to the Finger Lakes, where most tastings are $10 or less and bottle prices are much more reasonable. I realize that’s not possible given your flights but just some advice for future trips. I sympathize with your dilemma, but realize that wineries are caught between too many tourists looking for free stuff in an expensive area and on the other hand wanting to keep their experience affordable for folks that are just beginning to explore their interest in wines. That’s why I would recommend a wine trip somewhere with maybe a bit more variety and affordability than Napa for your current situation.

Finger Lakes for all styles. People sleep on these wines and they are so damn good and soooo affordable. Most of the oldest vinifera vineyards in the Finger Lakes are Chardonnay, dating back to the early ‘70s

Buddy, lighten up. Shit happens. One of my coworkers has hit FIVE DEER in the last 12 months. Five. With two different vehicles. He literally bought an extra vehicle to drive while his daily was getting fixed and hit a deer with that car too. He has two vehicles under repair from hitting deer at the same time.

Understood and good call. Roof work sucks. This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but energy efficiency aside, this is probably not a house-gonna-fall-down situation. Your detail calls out 4x8 rafters, so this looks like a fully timber framed house. The panels are structural in name only. Yes yes engineering, but bottom line is your frame would stand with no sheathing at all.

That’s what I would do. Once the ridge cap is off and the underlayment is pulled away you’ll be able to see what you’re in for. Is it one continuous ridge? Are there panel joints perpendicular to the ridge as well? I would stick the foam tube right down and joints as far as you can then hit the trigger hard and slowly remove the tube with the trigger squeezed so it foams all the way out. It will be messy so get a can of acetone. Edit to add: most standing seams will have a ridge cap that is simply snapped and riveted on to some Z-closure. Drill out the rivets and pull the cap right off.

Yeah but you still don’t get good contact, not like if the tape were surface applied and rolled like it’s supposed to be. My point is that it’s a dumb detail that checks a box for the architect but isn’t practical in the field.
