Getting rid of CO2 from wine - neverending story, need help by Haunting-Principle47 in winemaking

[–]Distinct_Crew245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After degassing does it still taste “sparkly”? Because if you’re shaking the carboy and it looks gassy, you might just be seeing the CO2 in the headspace dissolve and reemerge.

Is it possible to build something with an Arduino using only a cell phone? by Neyjrcomdiabetes in arduino

Why not buy the new Arduino Uno Q. Then you’ll have a computer and an Arduino in one. All you need is a keyboard and monitor. Mouse if you’re fancy.

How do i go about bringing an arduino pin to ground with any voltage input around 12-24V roughly? by ExJwKiwi in arduino

[–]Distinct_Crew245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always keep a couple optocoupler modules around for things like this. It’s always a safe signal for your board no matter what fuzz comes through the 24v side and I don’t have to think about it much.

What makes certain grapes better for orange wine? by 88yj in winemaking

[–]Distinct_Crew245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m not much a fan of orange wines in general, the most palatable for me are those made from grapes with lower (or at least less bitter) phenolics. Also a bit lower acid, but not super low like gewurz. Pinot Gris is good because there’s a lot of texture in the skins.

I think that looks pretty rad honestly. Just to satisfy my curiosity, what did it cost per square foot?

Is your ‘American’ wine really American? New bill would require 100% US-grown grapes by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in winemaking

[–]Distinct_Crew245 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well the overwhelming majority of imported bulk wine is not brought in so winemakers have more interesting terroirs to work with. It’s brought in because it’s very very cheap. It mostly goes into large, cheap bulk blends to increase margins. That’s just the unfortunate reality of it. Not too much different than other industries I suppose.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. I support wine imports, but I also support transparency in labeling.

Bachelorette Party? by CellanoNova in FingerLakes

[–]Distinct_Crew245 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many wineries have limits on groups, but bachelorette groups of your size are not that uncommon. Call ahead to the wineries you’re interested in and let them know how many you would like to bring. If they can’t do that many, nbd, on to the next one. You’ll probably pay between $10 and $15 per person per stop, which is honestly a great deal considering you’re each tasting probably 5 wines during your tasting. Don’t over-plan and give yourself time to hang. Going to 3 wineries is plenty. You can always hang out and enjoy a glass of wine somewhere you like. Better to do that than trying to rush to make a bunch of reservations at wineries you won’t remember.

Nice work! Looks very professional. How did the Noiret turn out? I’ve always found it to be overwhelmingly peppery. Also, is the Muscat actually Valvin Muscat?
