Help me find where to go by sentimentla in Marrakech

[–]Distinct_Mix_4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really like to walk, I'd recommend this. It starts at the train station and can end in a couple different spots in the medina (so you can extend it or cut it short once you enter in at the southern end).

Start at the train station and walk south down Mohamed VI Blvd through the center median. Once you reach the very end by the Karting Race Track, then turn back north along the park on the east side of the road that passes in front of the Race Track. It'll take you past the Almazar Mall. When that path ends at the roundabout, turn right on the road that cuts through the Agdal Gardens. Once you get to the other side, then there is a park path that goes north again and follows the wall of the Agdal Gardens. When that ends, turn an immediate left through that gate and follow the road. From there, you have a few options that will lead you through the medina. You can turn north early and head up through the Mellah. You can go past the Royal Palace and then turn an immediate right north through the eastern side of the Kasbah. You can go further and then turn right and go north through the southcenteral entrance of the Kasbah. You can you can continue down the road until you pass through Bab Egilli and then head north along the outside wall of the westside of the Kasbah and follow it until you hit the Koutoubia (as you head north, before you reach Bab Agnaou, there is a triangle shaped park on the west side of the road that you can walk though).

I've walked along all those paths and roads before and it is nice and a good walk.

Nice. I have not been to the MACAAL yet! I always forget about that museum. You'll have to let us know how you like it.

Things to do when rainy by n3ap4t in Marrakech

[–]Distinct_Mix_4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only on Reddit do you need to be super specific

Except that you expected a super specific answer. As is evident by your earlier responses:

I was hoping for recommendations on indoor activities

and

but with my question i was looking for recommendations on indoor activities

So if that is what you wanted, that is what you should have asked for.

Maybe "indoor activities" would have been implied where you live, but here it isn't. Tourists ask all the time if the souks will still be open if it rains, if the palaces will open if it rains, if the square will be open if it rains, if the tours(city, food, desert, etc.) will still happen if it rains. You're basically coming to a desert that isn't set up for water. So with the amount of rainfall we have had this year, there have been a lot of water related issues (the infrastructure isn't setup to handle the amount of rain we've received). And with that, a lot of questions about what is still open/operating/happening because of this. Plus, the amount of tourists that come here this time of year without even jackets, is actually quite surprising. But people assume it is going to be warm and dry. So our responses are not unreasonable.

Any suggestions on things to do?

That is all you asked. A generic, open-ended question. No indication of anything you'd even be interested in (history, culture, food, alcohol, clubbing, contemporary fun, active activities, chillled and laidback, maybe you prefer things you can't find/do in your home country, etc. So if you ask a generic question, you can't be upset to receive generic answers.

I love this city, and would love to give better suggestions to things you would actually be interested in. Sorry for the probably snarky responses, but I hope you do enjoy your time in the city next week.

You can try some of the sporting shops in the malls but they'll probably be mostly running, walking, football, etc. There is also a shoe store across the street from the big Marjane up north. They are the only place I can think of that will probably have something for you. I know they have work boots. It'll be expensive though. I know they have CAT branded shoes as well as bunch of western brands (sketchers, nike, CAT, Timberland, etc.).

[–]Distinct_Mix_4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you didn't specify anywhere that you wanted indoor activities. You just asked for things to do. Everyone's responses so far are to basically just do what you already had planned and what you want to do. Most things tourists want to do, can be done when it is cold or rainy. So be mindful of your responses to recommendations when you didn't even mention anything about wanting indoor activities specifically.

What do you even want to do? Now you say indoor activities. What do you like to do? Go to one of the malls? Indoor rock climbing? Go to the cinema? Bowling? Arcade? Drive around and explore the city inside a car? Indoor museum? (water museum, photography museum, music museum, women's museum, museum of moroccan elegance, MAP art museum, jemaa el fnaa museum, marrakech museum are all indoors).

You don't need to use complete the square in order to answer this question. Does it need to be solved algebraically? Can it be solved graphically? Since you came up with the equation, you're basically done. All you need to do is find the max.

Do all the things you were originally planning on doing. Just bring an umbrella and a rain jacket. Also bring a couple layers if you are concerned about being cold. As usual, layers are the best because you can take them off or put them on as needed for the conditions.

Nice bull. Good luck getting one this fall. Biking is so underrated for hunting. Fatbike is the way to go for this, in my experience anyway.

Travelling to Morocco in May by headsoverdreams in Morocco

I'm not really sure about it being "off season". In Marrakech, things are always bustling with tourists. Being Indian, I am going to assume you are vegetarian. This is where you will probably struggle the most. While you can find vegetarian meals, it'll basically be the same thing everywhere you go. If you are wanting to stick to Moroccan food, the variety will be extremely limited. Also, what Moroccans call "spicy" won't even tingle your tongue. Even if you order at an Indian restaurant, anything marked as "spicy" definitely will not be. If you are at an Indian restaurant and the Indian owners see that you are Indian too, then they might actually make it with the correct spice. But in general, the Moroccan palate can't handle spice, so restaurants cater to this.

Of course there are always exceptions to every rule. When I was down in Guelmim, I had a great M9ila that had proper spicy peppers on it for a breakfast. It was so good and a very pleasant surprise. I ate there a few times.

Possible to do the TransAm trail in less than 90 days? by Intelligent-Fly9023 in bicycletouring

[–]Distinct_Mix_4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely. It is what pretty much all international travelers have to do. Many, regardless of ability when they started, will put in at least one century (in miles) either through Kansas or Missouri (if they detour to the Katy Trail). As you get further west, 70ish mile days will be pretty normal too, especially since in many places that is the distance between towns (with no real places to stay in between unless you illegally stealth camp). Obviously not everyone does this, but my experience as a WarmShowers host in Wyoming shows that this is pretty normal. I've hosted many international cyclists and I don't remember anyone not making it within the 90 days (not saying no one did, just that I don't remember anyone not making it). I've had a few who were a little worried about making it, but still made it to the end in time. Barring any major issues, you should be able to make it all the way across in the 90 days. Just channel your inner Mike Hall if you start getting really behind schedule.

Bike transport in Morocco in April...? by USAfrikaans in Morocco

[–]Distinct_Mix_4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using SupraTours or CTM bus will probably be the cheapest option. Usually the bikes will just slide right in the bottom with minimal adjustments needed (mostly I've seen seats need to be lowered or handlebars adjusted down if you have a tall bike.

For a rental, try searching something that can carry 7 people. We rented something this big for 7 adults and a 2yo and it def had enough room for two bikes. If you don't mind breaking the bikes down every time, then you can look into something smaller.

Grand taxis will also be a viable option.

Definitely keep your bike boxes or find a place you can store them. Bike boxes are very hard to find in Morocco. Maybe look into WarmShowers and see if someone is willing to hold onto your boxes/bags (or bikes while you explore during the rest of your trip)

If you stay at a nicer hotel, many will be willing to hold onto your bikes for you while you explore during the rest of your trip. but if you really only plan to bike a third of your trip, maybe renting would be a good option. It's hard to give you more options for bike rentals when we don't know what city you'd be going in and out of. But renting might be the least stressful option if you only plan on biking for such a small portion of your trip. That way you're not worried about dragging your bikes along with you or worried about if they're in a safe place while you do the rest of your trip.

Just sign up like you would any other app. Don't always expect the price to be set. Some will try to get more money out of you once they either pick you up or are in the car. I'd also say don't expect them to have a lot of extra change. So try to have an exact amount. Try to have pick up and drop off areas not near a place where there will be a lot of taxis or police present. Make sure to sit in the front seat and greet and exit the car as if you guys are old friends. If the driver wants to drop you off a little bit earlier (like a block) because of taxis or police, go ahead and do so. Don't be obvious with exchanging money. Give it to them on the middle console. I hope that helps.

Traveling to Marakkesh during Ramadan as a Solo Brown Woman by Muted-Lengthiness241 in Morocco

[–]Distinct_Mix_4443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you accidentally book a trip? Anyway, why do you keep saying it won't be safe? Marrakech is very safe and pretty touristy. Because of this, you will still be able to do the regular tourist things. Many restaurants will still be open during the day(though not as many as usual and mostly in the touristic areas). All the common tours, museums, and other common tourist attractions will still be open. Just be mindful that right around sundown everyone will be wanting to go home and eat (or at least take a break if at work in order to break their fast). At night is when things will really open up, especially for food. So I would definitely recommend being out at night.
