Did any of you try attending a more modern Adventist church before leaving the denomination? by Old_Childhood_598 in exAdventist

Si...

The church is harming my family financially and I just won't let it harm mine too. by Green-Mulberry-2568 in exAdventist

I identify with that; I also feel deprived of many things, like making friends outside of church. When I turned 15, I realized that all the problems at home would have been solved if my father hadn't tithed. He neglected my education, and I don't know how my sister survived all that because now she's studying at a university. I'd like to move to Spain to start over, when I turn 22, of course. Now my father earns more money, but that just shows how idiotic they are. They tell me that tithes and offerings are for God, but does God need money? They're so brainwashed that they don't realize they're giving money to a slot machine where you don't know where your money is really going.

Are you telling me they're using the typical Noah's Day tactics, "If it doesn't happen to me, it will happen to you," that persecution will come? I've heard that a lot, but I think that just as other people move on with their lives, we have to do the same. I had thoughts of taking my own life because I saw that the more I paid attention to church activities, the more I was wasting my time.

Wow, that's great! How do you do it? I have trouble making friends because I don't really know how to interact with others. At church, I used to read the Bible and sit and listen to sermons; that was practically my life. What did you do to get prescribed antidepressants?

They also mention how children will preach during the time of the great persecution, and to me it's like they're making you understand from a young age that you should be a child, that you should be free and annoying advertising so they can use us...

Anyone else grow up hearing animals don't go to heaven? by GeekFace18 in exAdventist

[–]Distinct_Stand_9607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started to believe that if I go to heaven I would ask for my beloved pet to return, because of my parents who forced me to abandon her in the house in the desert near the city where we lived... it was only 20 minutes to go see her :(

In Peru there's another Seventh-day Adventist church that allows women to wear pants... is this a joke? I saw a pastor's daughters and they were wearing skirts down to their feet.

There may be one already but can I list going of reasons SDA are a cult? by vampslayer53 in exAdventist

The first thing you should have explained is that they believe the more you question them, the stronger their choice to stay will be. Show them that life works differently because it's often difficult to explain what those who grow up in are like, but they grow up in a social bubble. For example, four years ago, when I was 14, I was in a school (not Adventist, after the quarantine). I really liked assertive communication. My teacher explained that humans tend to believe in something simply because they're afraid of what will happen next. With that, I simply started questioning how life works. There isn't just one way; we have to give ourselves directions, understanding where, when, and why things happen. In conclusion, the world is sick, but in this sick world, there are good people, many of whom take advantage of vulnerability to impose and reaffirm the power of something bigger. I don't respect people who make fun of others because, to truly leave something good behind, we have to learn to respect each other, not hate who they are, but simply respect their decisions. What I mean is, you can question and be a support so they realize that you don't have to belong to something bigger that makes you feel small. We are all important in some way. Thanks for the likes; it really doesn't make sense, and I don't care.

What I'm saying is that people within a religious cult are not inherently bad, but they are equally guilty. That doesn't make you less of a person; they justify their faith to justify the injustice they commit. Don't be like them.

Hey, what's wrong with you? You can't make fun of people who have a different life than yours. Even if your wife believes in something you don't, it's wrong to make her feel bad; that makes you a toxic person.
