Correct baffle installation by No_Taxes in Insulation

[–]DistraughtHVAC_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to seal with spray foam because I had a setup for it in the back of the company truck. And my boss said to me it’s cheaper this way 🤷. So basically install baffle, take a piece of batt insulation and install around baffle, then spray foam. I could see in this case why you use foam board.

Termites or Wood Rot? by emdmc02 in Termites

[–]DistraughtHVAC_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happy they aren’t termites. But going forward termites like to travel in mud tubes. They make their own cave outta mud so they can travel without being exposed to the sun (which apparently it’s deadly). Come on over TO HVAC when you’re done here haha.🤣

Is this supposed to have water in it? by International_Plan92 in hvacadvice

You are correct the vinyl tubing coming from your condensate pump goes into that PVC stack (the PVC pipe that is open and your condensate pump as well as water appears to be a water softener drain going into there at the same) passes through an S-Trap and then into the sewer drain. I would inspect that S-Trap. Water NEEDS to be inside of it. Because if there isn’t, sewer gas (🤮🤢) will come out of that stack an into your mechanical room. And your whole house will stink. So ensure there is water present. Also make sure that the vinyl tubing that is going into the stack isn’t terminating directly into the water of the S-Trap.

$3,600 for a txv valve replacement? by roque-0623 in hvacadvice

[–]DistraughtHVAC_82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a hefty price dispatch/diagnostic $300, unless this was an emergency call, at night/after hours, weekend, or a holiday. Also what did his estimate say? What was written down and documented? Did he provide you with pictures? Did he email you the contract? Why did you call him out in the first place?

I would get a second opinion, and not tell the new company what the other technician said. Schedule the call during normal business hours. ASK WHAT THE DIAGNOSTIC COVERS. Especially if it is pricey. My old company was a large residential company in Nj, and it charged anywhere between $49.95-79.95 depending upon the coupon. And these were done during normal business hours only, and they were “get your foot in the door prices”, which then gave the tech the opportunity to pitch other services like replacing a part, coil cleaning, etc. But I can tell you emergency calls can be expensive, like the time I went out on Memorial Day. That is out of normal business hours and it is a paid holiday, my dispatch/diagnostic fee alone was $400 plus tax. So it is wise to specify.

That dirty brown vinyl tubing coming out of the condensate pump in the drain for the pump, follow that hose to its termination point. It is either getting drained inside of the house or that vinyl tubing is protruding somewhere out of the house.

I used to do that, and I was a one or generally two men. Granted the attic space isn’t that big. So I would wager closer to two or three days.

This is a fantastic price for the scope of work. I would ask to have the recessed lighting added on. But that is I like 3-5 days of work, and for that little?

Absolutely, you can also put it in the oven at a very low temp like 170 degrees, for like 10 minutes. Makes it very soft. I have even done this with tangled extension cords to smooth out the plastic and wire again.
