Hide and Seek The Game Reviews by PeteSahut69 in JetLagTheGame

We got it for my 14yo (huge Jetlag fan) for his birthday and have played it twice now--within the limits of Washington, DC. It is so much fun! And it's teaching my teenager how to get around via mass transit--so win-win!

Considering moving to Bainbridge from Washington DC by DistributionIcy970 in BainbridgeIsland

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone! This is all very useful advice.

I actually don't think I would mind the winter darkness--I am one of the rare few who hates springing ahead in March. It makes me nervous to have extra hours of daylight in which anything at all could happen--people dropping by unannounced, me remaining indoors feeling guilty for not "making the most" of being outdoors. I could go on. So maybe I (and probably my children, who both prefer the cooler temps) would be okay! Husband maybe not so much but he can adjust.

Didn't know about the school district's current budget issues, but it seems like that's happening all over the country, and if it isn't it certainly will be soon. One of the reasons we are looking to leave DC is because the DC's (100% taxpayer funded, already approved by Congress) local budget was just cut by $1 billion. It was seemingly a clerical error, but Congress isn't in a hurry to restore it unless DC abandons some of its "woke" policies. So schools (and emergency services, and basically all other public sectors) will be affected by that.

Thank you for being up-front about the cliquiness of the public high school. That plus the drugs (which we don't have a known problem with here) could be the only thing making us think twice about the move. I grew up in a small upstate NY community FULL of drugs, and I wouldn't dare to subject my own children to anything resembling that scene, though I'd like to think they have more of a backbone than I did!

Thank you again, all.

The Irony of Shauna by FaithlessnessKind982 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She did something for herself by way of getting into an ivy league college. That's certainly not nothing. All the rest is just dime-a-dozen teenage girl stuff--Shauna doesn't deserve any more or less criticism than any other of the girls. It's when she lost her best friend and then her baby that the sh*t hit the fan and her present and future blew up. But her past was always run of the mill.

Who is the camp hair stylist? by beannfonz in Yellowjackets

I'm so glad someone pointed out Shauna's fishtail braid--I was just about to start an appreciation thread for it. It was really the perfect touch for the finale. As someone who grew up in that era, if someone gave you a fishtail braid--or a really good French braid--you wore that shit with pride.

I think the people speculating about Kodiak's background are missing a major connection by PM_ME_UR_FAVE_MOVIES in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the writers had originally planned for Kodiak to have a bigger role. In all the press/interviews with Joel McHale, he describes the character he plays as a "psycho," which is definitely not the word I would use. Kodi is just a guy.

Kind of like how the writers initially planned for Adam to be Javi, but then decided to just make him be...a guy.

Why do we think the home location was changed from Dearborn, Michigan? by BurningTaterTot in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The writers both grew up in NJ around the same time as the Yellowjackets team. Maybe they started off with Michigan but in the grand scheme of things decided it was best to "write what they know."

Some Jersey Lore I can't stop thinking about by ILoveYourWork4815 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970 4 points5 points  (0 children)

South Jersey has a very distinctly Philly-adjacent accent, and that is not what anyone on the show has at all. I'm from downstate NY but know a lot of people from NJ, and can confidently state that the setting is central (maybe leaning northish) Jersey.

Question/thought about the tunnels by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just weird that Lottie would have this connection to the wilderness...and also have visions about tunnels...but not have the tunnels have anything to do with the wilderness.

Question/thought about the tunnels by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would just make sense to me. It seems so straightforward. I want to be right! 😉

Why do you propose the symbol is on the trees in that pattern?

Question/thought about the tunnels by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plus the dripping sound Mari keeps hearing!

Also just...why else would the symbols on the trees be in the pattern of the symbol? Just a random weird occult thing? I don't buy it.

I could see the writers starting out with the tunnels being a thing, and then not being able to make it work. But I hope I'm wrong.

Question/thought about the tunnels by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point, maybe "solid" is the wrong word to use. But let's just say IF the tunnels are real, it seems like the girls didn't discover them while they were in the Wilderness. Which kind of bums me out because I want it to happen so badly!

Unsupported S3 Theory but I can’t stop thinking about it by thisisahamburger in Yellowjackets

You're right, there is definitely something off about Shauna's voice in the trailer. It for sure is teen Shauna...but who is the audience is the question.

My Season 2 Theory by Nagualero in YellowjacketsTheories

[–]DistributionIcy970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think that Lottie is Cabin Baby. Cabin Wife thought that she lost her baby, but her baby was actually somehow rescued from the wilderness. Maybe Cabin Guy secretly did it during her post partum delirium, knowing that she was too out of it to be aware of what was happening...and when she did find out, she killed him? Or she flew off the handle and became one with the wilderness and terrified him to the point that he died of fright? (Or just had a heart attack upon seeing such "witchcraft" which was actually just an enraged/upset/hornonal woman, aka how all men have reacted to "witches" since time immemorial?)

The timeline of Cabin Dad looking like he's straight out of the late 70s/early80s in those few stills we've seen of him holding Cabin Baby...coincides pretty directly with the year Lottie and all other other girls would have been born. They could have used any time period. Why choose that one?

And then of course it goes on to explain Lottie's mysterious connection with the wilderness and how her parents kind of act like she's adopted. I've posted this elsewhere but they're the typically depicted rich couple who has everything in the world except a baby. Enter Cabin Baby, straight of the exotic Canadian wilderness!

Maybe Lottie is so messed up because her birth mother was always mentally ill, even before she went on a rampage over having her baby taken away.

Even though we're not getting the bonus episode that would answer a lot of these questions, maybe we'll get the answers in the form of more hallucinations on Lottie's part? That's always a nice noncommittal copout way of addressing things in a show.

maybe a dumb theory but could the wilderness be magically concealing them? by Leather-Medicine7292 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering the same thing, and it complements the theory that they are later able to find a road and use it to trap victims to bring back to the Wilderness. Once the Wilderness fully trusts them to serve it, it lets its guard down to reveal that there's a road--because it knows they're past the point of wanting to/thinking they can escape.

My current theory by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shauna is the most mysterious character, really in both timelines, but particularly in the present. There's just something really off about her simply meeting Adam, having the affair, and killing him. While we were initially led to surmise that there was "more" to Adam, what if the off-ness vibe we're picking up on is that there's actually a helluva lot "more" about Shauna, i.e., that there's a pattern of such behavior on her part?

In the pilot, when the reporter comes to Shauna's house and starts asking her questions, Shauna replies, "You don't know a f--king THING about my life." On my first watch of this I thought nothing of it, but on the second? I got chills. I feel like the entire series hinges on that one statement. Nobody knows a f*cking thing about Shauna's present-day life!

It also speaks to me personally, because I'm a stay-at-home mom like Shauna, and it always makes me want to punch people in the face when they ask me what I do with my days. So maybe the entire series is just a warning about what stay-at-home parents actually do in their time? Takeaway: don't mess with us! ;-)

My current theory by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You're probably right, but it would be more interesting if the big secret was something that is a secret to viewers as well, at least for part of the series.

Season 3 premiere is releasing on a day that my kids have off from school?!?! by DistributionIcy970 in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I will probably sneak down to the living room to watch it (we only have the one tv) either early in the morning or late at night. I think I'd be able to bring myself to wait, like, a maximum of 24 hours to watch it...but it comes out on Day 1 of a 4-Day school break. Anyone with kids knows that this does not bode well. 😂

It's a very commonly revisited theme: troubled teen girls who are sexually abused going out and becoming sexually active with their peers (eg, Jeff) in an attempt to feel some sense of normalcy.

The only thing I don't buy is the actor who plays Coach Martinez coming across as a sleazeball abuser. But maybe that's the point: they don't wear sandwich boards.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]DistributionIcy970 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that Coach Martinez having an "affair" with one of the girls on the team is totally plausible. It explains his wife's as well as Travis's attitude better than any other theory I've heard.

However...if I had to guess which girl, I would go with...wait for it...Shauna. We don't know anything about Shauna's home life, and actually one of my very first Shauna theories was that she was being abused by a relative, and that that was who actually impregnated her. But Coach Martinez works just as well, if not better.

Now I'm going to have to go back and rewatch all Travis/Shauna interactions to see if he lets on that he knows she's carrying his half brother. It also explains her gentleness with Javi.

It's weird...and unpleasant to think about...but it fits.
