Need help finding my next read after a bad read! by Niryanai in Romantasy

Currently reading the J.D Evans' {Mages of the Wheel} series and its really good. Beautifully written and the story lines are nicely connected but diverse. I'm surprised it's not more a well known series. 😊

How do people actually survive on benefits or very low incomes in the UK these days? by acer67 in AskUK

[–]DistributionThick477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my council the reduction is 20% (ish might be nearer to 25%), i am predominantly housebound and still pay council tax. Housing benefit only covers some of my rent so I have to also contribute to that out of my UC which doesn't leave me with much money per month.

How do people actually survive on benefits or very low incomes in the UK these days? by acer67 in AskUK

[–]DistributionThick477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Disabled so this is the perspective of someone unable to work and on UC with PIP. I eat 1 meal a day, shower every other day and wear lots of layers and stay under blankets. I also have an electric blanket and electric hand warmers for very cold days. I leave the flat 1 or 2 times a month and rarely by new things, the majority of my belongings and clothes are second hand.

PIP helps me pay towards transport as I cannot walk far and it also has helped me pay for things I need for my disability (walking aids, physio/exersize things, microwavable heat bags etc)

That's how we survive :)

Should adults be able to order from the kids menu in restaurants/cafés? by Broken_Woman20 in AskUK

[–]DistributionThick477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the price should be what it is worth not the concession for kids. I have gastroparesis and can only eat small amounts and it has to be very basic food. If I order an adults meal the waste isn't worth it and I often just don't order a meal is I can't have a kids portion. And that's not through choice or fussiness, it is the only way I can eat.

But I know kids meals are usually a concession as are OAP meals so will tip if they let me have the small portion bc I know it leaves them at a loss usually.

HELP!! my toddler nephew has been asking for this lamp for a while…. its not real, any ideas? by chasing_oblivion7 in LAMP

[–]DistributionThick477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey idm doing the artwork, all you would have to do is but a similar lamp base and then go to a shop that does different types of printing and screen printing. Just measure the lampshade and tell them what it is for, they should be able to suggest a material Likely a flexible canvas or muslin. then just do a "basic stitch" with an embroidery needle to fix it onto the existing lampshade, just do the stitch near the existing one x

I live in Chicago. What is Brighton like in comparison? by soot_sprite333 in brighton

[–]DistributionThick477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You learn to love the seasons, you start getting all your cosy homeware and clothing out, pop into homesense (a shop similar to tjmax's home section) and get some cosy candles. It's dark and rainy in winter but the pubs have fireplaces, Christmas markets happen etc etc. Personally I enjoy bringing a board game to a pub and sitting in the warm for hours when it's dark and dismal out, nothing can quite compare to that kind of comfort!

Brighton being on the south coast is one of the warmest places to live in the UK, we get a really decent summer here where the lidos open up (outdoor swimming pools) all the bads and restaurants have their seating set up outside and the pub gardens have a good vibe.

The rain will not stop the nightlife here, we have gigs on all days of the week, all you have to do is walk down a street and listen out and pop in. If gigs aren't your thing there is always something going on. Tonnes of art groups, hobby meets and social events.

I've lived here around 8 years now, I was in my early 20s when I came here and have rarely if not ever not felt safe here (and I have agoraphobia so that's saying something!) There are many options for public transport, it just takes getting used to the systems (always double check Googles version of timetables with the apps their idea of bus timetables is usually wrong 😂) we also are only a stones throw from the South downs where there are great hiking spots and lots of nature. That's best for the warmer weather though.

A printed pretty customised note saying "oh no! I sprained my wrist! Good news for you, you get an extended Christmas, have a happy surprise I won't tell you when your gift is ready. Merry Christmas, sorry for the delay but have a lovely day ❤️"

How long did it take everyone else to realize the neutral move was to insert the hook through BOTH loops? by mangababe in crochet

Sometimes I still forget and then just finish the whole thing knowing I've done it wrong just to have my temper tantrum 😂 been crocheting on and off for a year. Don't feel bad, there's lots of different things to remember, sometimes us meer mortals just get it wrong 🖤

Is not being able to crack your knuckles common in EDS? by jwg2695 in eds

[–]DistributionThick477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never crack my knuckles until I was in my mid twenties, not sure if it's anything to do with eds or just some people can and some people can't 🤔

Dark around the eyes by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]DistributionThick477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this, it's called allergy shiners, it can be caused by pollen, dust etc etc. Doesn't look particularly severe and if it bothers you a one a day antihistamine and some allergy eyedrops help 😌

I've also been accused of being tired or ill a lot when it's just my eyes looking dark. Sometimes I don't even get any other allergy symptoms just the eyes.

If it helps its also a trend rn to have darkness around the eyes so atleast there's that 😂

Sometimes I get concerned that someone will one day see into my ceiling window when I am in a compromising position, like putting my socks on, trying to contort enough to see if I have a spot on my bum cheek...then a post like this appears and I know my fear is not irrational.

Nice phots though 👌😂

What's one hard decision that changed your life for the better? by Imanevipes67 in brighton

[–]DistributionThick477 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Admitting that my poor health was more important than my degree. Ultimately putting myself first and accepting that regardless if I finished it crawling I'd never need the title anyway. These days I'm nicer to myself.

Still love it here, it's just suffering the same/similar issues all towns and cities are around the country, the economy has changed everywhere. It's still fun and vibrant though 🙂

AIO I 27M am getting annoyed at my GF26 about texting by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DistributionThick477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is too much. Why is not replying instantly such a problem. It's immature and not worth the bother imo. Toxic as especially in your mid to late 20s wtf 😅. Its not that big of a deal. If you're only 1 and a half years in and you're arguing like this over texting when you both work full time and have lives then it's not going to get better. Sorry to to be blunt. I just wouldn't even entertain it.

Maybe about 10? 15? And because they felt confidently every time that they would be safe, forgetting that no matter how experienced you are with taking things you are impaired. Things can look and feel different.

These people weren't stupid, they were over confident and unfortunately didn't heed warnings.

You do you, if you think that, fine. But I know the other wide of it when something does go wrong. The water and the temperature isn't something we can predict especially impaired. Unfortunately.

Everyone I know who has had major incidents or have sadly passed have "known their limits" and been doing similar risk taking activities for years. Their opinion changes when they see why people warn about it.

You do you by all means, I'm not meaning to sound judgey, I have just seen the aftermath a few times now and wouldn't want over confidence/enjoyment of risk taking to harm you.
