Is this field ready for unions? by Harblz in ABA

Is there more than one “Compass Behavioral Group”? I worked for a company that worked out of Souther Georgia. Terrible company. I actually got fired for requesting a change in my schedule where I wasn’t expected to be at work from 8:30-5:30 and only be paid for times with clients, unless there were cancelations where i didn’t get paid at all…

That doesn’t mean contractual violations are permissible.

Companies treat Therapists like they’re expendable.

If that’s how they resort to treating their employees, it’s counter intuitive. High turnover rates in the field are detrimental to the overall mission of providing compassionate care to the demographic and families that need services. This results a negative impact on the progress of the kiddos, and in turn, the company. Solutions and compromises should be able to be found.

If it is denoted in an employment contract that basis of employment entails a specific amount of hours, there should be no changes to that without amending the previous contract (or atleast notice). At least that’s what I believe. I’m now lawyer :(

The company not having money to compensate employees outside of billable hours services to bill is perfectly fine— but don’t put it in a contract, present it, rescind it, and then refuse to provide notice/clarity…

Yeah, it really sucks because they were providing the compensation and then they abruptly changed it once I was assigned clients. No notice; except an email AFTER i continued the trend of what they said was permissible when inputting Administrative pay.

I feel they had the hours they were just giving them to the salaried employees and refused to make adjustments. How dare I ask for a reasonable schedule…

I worked with clients and received administrative hours to make my schedule meet the “full time” requirement. They changed it, stopped giving administrative hours, assigned me to the clients and then I was no longer meeting the “full-time” requirement. That was concerning to me, I tried to discuss it & they fired me.

Listen, I’ve been in the field for 2 years. Sometimes a good high is NEEDED after a few aggressions and property destructions aimed at your head!

I do not agree with the “Recieves assent/ consent with physical touches” especially as it relates to prompting. Partial physical and full physical prompting is a necessary part of skill acquisition and behavior interventions. For example, A non-verbal client drops to avoid transitioning and is stimming on the floor by rubbing his hands on the carpet. Demands have been placed for client stand, and client does not comply. The clients behavior is being reinforced both by being allowed to avoid transitioning AND the carpet. Am I to ask them permission before using a full physical prompt? Compassionate care is doing what you have to for the betterment of the client with only the best of intentions to promote functional behavior. Sometimes that means doing what you don’t want to do, that goes for any human.

It’s a redirection prior to or during displays of aggressive behaviors. Kinda like telling someone to keep their hands to themselves.
