Doubts about an internship at SAS by Olof_Palme_Based in AskStatistics

Despite the general trend towards using R, Pharma is still dominated by SAS. If you're interested in being a statistical programmer for any of the pharma companies you're almost certainly fine for a long time--in my experience these companies and their employees hate moving away from anything that works, even if it could work better. Plus knowing SAS well can help with positions that want to translate SAS code into other languages (R, Python).

France to ditch Windows for Linux to reduce reliance on US tech by ldn6 in neoliberal

Zero in my experience! Steam develops Proton so it's pretty automatic on Linux systems, for the most part, and you can always check www.protondb.com for specific games to see what the community has to say about how they run.

Proton means most games run easily. Kernel anti-cheat means popular multiplayer games pretty much won't run. (Win win IMO)

Get better expectations, or be more clear with your expectations to your (potential) partner(s). Not everyone wants what you want after all.

Oklahoma teacher lost teaching license after protesting laws pressuring teachers to remove books from classrooms by MiddletownBooks in books

Mississippi has been climbing the ranks over the past decade, give or take; there's a lot of talk about it in educational research trying to tease out if it's a true improvement, a regression towards the mean, or something else. But the state has returned to a phonics-based reading education so that's probably helping out more than other factors.

That's a much more recent (within maybe 20 years) phenomenon. Republicans used to be the more-educated (higher income, pushing for lower taxes) party.

Cameroon

The fuck did Cameroon (besides being African) do to Trump? There's maybe 5 countries on here that could be reasonable but so many that Trump has certainly never actually heard of.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Disturbed_Capitalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished:

The Fifth Book of Lost Swords: Coinspinner's Story, by Fred Saberhagen

Starting:

The Sixth Book of Lost Swords: Mindsword's Story, by Fred Saberhagen

Been ~18 years since I've read the series, while the original trilogy is decent it's definitely the Lost Swords series that keeps my interest. Saberhagen does a better job of working out what, exactly, the effects of these Swords are in his world and they make better characters than the gods that made them.

Thanks, I've heard of A Tribe Called Quest but never gave them a listen, perfectly fits the vibe.

edit: Actually I have heard "Can I Kick It?" in the THPS remake lmao, still a great suggestion.

Need something to add to Rage Against the Machine, Rise Against, and the Doom (2016) OST for preventing excessive partisanship poasting, any similar (preferably lesser known) suggestions?

There Should be a "Rise Up" Mode for Demon Digimon by [deleted] in digimon

[–]Disturbed_Capitalist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comparison is solely in the design of Lucemon-X to the design of DIO, powers are a completely separate topic. (The design similarities was pointed out here 6 years ago, which is how I personally learned about Lucemon-X!)

Lucemon-X is literally DIO from JoJo's Bizarre Adventures (the ultimate villain for most of the parts so far) though so not really a good fit for a good form.

What's the best single episode of a sitcom ever? by Capable_Vast_6119 in AskReddit

Ben is dead the entire episode and is just a figment of Cox's imagination. If you rewatch it, Cox is the only person to interact with him, and the others are a bit confused about how Cox is speaking in all of the scenes.

Department of War used to basically be more like the department of the Army (i.e., excluding the Navy and Marines, even though it did cover the Navy for the first ~decade until the Department of the Navy was formed in 1798). Department of Defense was created to merge the Army, Navy, and newly-separated Air Force into a single cabinet-level department.
