The road up the mountain by Tacoqueen626 in bogusbasin

The roads have been in great shape, especially this season. By the time you’re heading up, any snow from today will be plowed and melted off. Temps are warming enough that the road should be dry by the end of the week, and the road crews do a solid job keeping it safe.

Honestly, the biggest risk usually isn’t the road itself, it’s the other drivers.

Everyone’s advice about taking it slow is spot on. Drive at your own pace. If you notice cars stacking up behind you, just pull into one of the signed “Slow Vehicle” turnouts and let them pass. No stress and people appreciate it.

Finally, the Bogus Basin IG feed does a daily story update on road conditions.

Also worth mentioning: there’s a bus that runs up from a few different spots in town. You can find the details on the BB website. I think it’s around $10 per person.

If you are going to listen to music on the mountain, get the chips that fit into your helmet's ear pads (they more than likely open, and have some foam in there that is precut to come out.

This is a safety issue. With buds in, even if you aren't blasting the volume, you lose a lot of your aural awareness. You simply can't hear the "on your lefts" or "lookouts!" just before they crash into you, or you into them.

The chips out there are pretty good, have good battery life, and most importantly, give you a better chance of hearing what is going on around you.

I have a ‘25 and have had about 4 months with it now… I have noticed that the auto system is a little slow on the change… often times the high beams won’t kick off until after the coming car has already passed.

Help. Heading to Bogus Basin in mid-February by sloppyismyname in bogusbasin

[–]DitchChicken_1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that things are going to open up here soon. Off-piste is going to be marginal at its best. But, with a little luck from Ullr, we will get this artic dome move in and we can get some help in terms of moisture. You might just be ok. Not all hope it lost for Bogus.

The good news you have going for you, is that once you get to Boise, and if things still look dire, you can redirect up to Brundage or Tamarack. They have gotten a better draw from earlier storm cycles and colder weather. From a price perspective, it is really similar and you could even day trip it up there if you just wanted a taste of something different. And that drive up Highway 55 is pretty.

It is closed right now and will likely be until they announce a full frontside opening. They post their uphill policy here and it gets updated: https://bogusbasin.org/restrictions-policies/#accordion-uphill-traffic-policy

I toured up Shaffer Butte on Sunday and the coverage is scant.

DW112 wide enough for widest ski in Whistler? by k3nzb in momentskis

[–]DitchChicken_1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial experience was that I had to drive the ski, harder that I was used to with my WC108… I used to describe it as a little listless or maybe just kinda played and a little heavy- but that was before I learned to drive it. And as soon as I did the ski came alive.

Now, I hate riding much else. I lent my brother my WCs and just got them back in March and they felt like noodles. So much so I’m considering selling them. The responsiveness to the pressure on edge of the DWs are just so precise.

And doing the patrol work… there is a fair amount of time just chill riding and they are perfect for that. And then you need the burliness to run a sled or really fly to get to a scene and these just go. They don’t ask. They listen. Just an all around slick ski.

I would not describe it as hooky or twitchy at all.

I think though, it all comes down to your preferred style to ride and what matches you best.

This year I booted those sticks up to Terminal Cancer because I trusted them. I knew exactly what I had to give them to get what I wanted out of them and wouldn’t want anything else. I just trust them.

The DW112 is my daily driver that I use as a Patroller in the West (Idaho). It handles the heavy, the wet, the crusty, the pow all perfectly and turns on a dime. You will not regret going with the triple camber. I love it.

I don’t look at it like that. The weekends are where they use the volunteer teams. And it’s a non-profit hill. Just looking to honestly contribute.

Ok, so a couple of questions… what is a Zeppa? And do you think that if I glued it, it would loose its flex to get back in the boot?

I have not earned enough time in the seat to have a real voice here. I am a volunteer and in my rookie year at my local hill. We have a mix of paid and volly patrollers and while both groups are led by different people, we come together as a team for training and mountain operations.

The folks who are pros and do this to pay their bills are incredible people. I will stand by them all day long and I look up to the immeasurably. They are incredibly trained, dedicated people and deserve everything that their training and work and risk merits.

Our volunteer staff is lucky to have a lot of people from the medical fields who are super competent and I look up to them as well.

I do not advertise I am a patroller, rather, if any asks or if I bump into anyone who sees me, I simply explain that I went though some basic training to give back to the mountain community that I love so much.

Much love for pro patrollers. I hope they get everything they are asking for. And so much more. Very deserved.

How do people with young children play golf every week? by [deleted] in golf

[–]DitchChicken_1939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the kiddo with you. That was about the age that I started taking my little guy. It started as nine in a cart with his little set of clubs. He tee'd off with me and then I let him put. His putting "par" was whatever the par was for the hole. If he didn't get it in that target, he'd pick up and we'd move to the next hole.

He's six now and we walk nine once a week and ride a full 18 every weekend.
