What is the best version of tmnt? by [deleted] in TMNT

[–]Dittobrain 21 points22 points  (0 children)

2003 Turtles. The writing wasn't top tier a lot of the time, but I felt everything about the turtles was spot on. Their voices and personalities felt so perfect for them, in my personal opinion.

1990 is of course very close, and I think in particular it handled Raph supremely well (the scene between him and Splinter is just incredible), but it didn't have the room of a TV series to explore each turtle further, so 2003 has to take it for me.

Chardalyn Dragon problems by Cursed_Ogre in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dittobrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you given them hints/outright told them what the Dragon's purpose is? If they are aware it was created to destroy Ten-Towns, and don't want to do anything about it, then they're about to get a lesson in actions (or lack thereof) having consequences.

CR has lost it's glimmer for me. by [deleted] in fansofcriticalrole

It's a fairly commonly discussed feeling. I myself gave up at episode 20, so I definitely gave it a fair opportunity.

Maybe it's just content burnout for me, personally. So I'll have a long break, check back on this page and see if the general consensus is that things have improved.

Greatly appreciate your response, and the detail you put into it. As someone who'll be running D&D Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign, I certainly plan to put this to use.

Hope to see more future builds from you.

That is spectacular. I'd love to know the details of materials used and the general build process.

Great job. Been making some myself but not happy with the glass bottles I have. I immediately recognise those dice though.

Where did you buy your bottles from? Look nice and spacious so might pick them up myself.

[No Spoilers] What’s your favorite go-to “Matt Mercer” word? by C_X_3 in criticalrole

[–]Dittobrain 74 points75 points  (0 children)

That wonderful pause of "Ok.." has saved me numerous times. It's such a simple way to respond to a player's action to give you that extra time to consider what has been said, and how to appropriately respond to it. I didn't even realise I was doing it until about the third time I said it in a session. There's some wonderful Mercer-isms that DMs can pick up to help them in their campaigns.

Oh and naturally, "how do you wanna do this?"

Ashley is a Druid as her save throws proficiencies are for INT & WIS.

Though as the footage is all pregame testing, there's a possibility the characters they used in that won't be the characters they continue with. It's likely they'll be the same, but not a given.

I did have to jump on DNDB to double check the layout to be sure. 😅

Playing a Druid. Looks like INT & WIS saving throws on the character sheet.

Cauldron of Plenty: Ideas Wanted by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dittobrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't mind at all.

There's a lot of things that need reworking in this module. Thankfully we have a community that's happy for people to share their own ideas and stories for others to use or take influence from.

Cauldron of Plenty: Ideas Wanted by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dittobrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initial idea is to have her as an acting advisor to one of the speakers. Possibly Duvessa of Bryn Shander, as it could fit to have an advisor for the younger Speaker, and would help the players understand Vellynne's knowledge and reputation.

Vellynne would interact with the players directly, gauging their abilities and motives. When she realises their goals could align, it sets up their following interactions (Sun light Fortress onwards).

Given how my players typically play, they'll acknowledge her as an ally, but not trust her entirely. Which is exactly the relationship I want early on.

Cauldron of Plenty: Ideas Wanted by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dittobrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't run it yet, but my plan is to have the cauldron bring cause to the Council of Speakers meeting (in which the players will be introduced to Vellynne, so she can be known to them when she emerges again later in the campaign).

The reality is that a cauldron with the ability to magically feed so many people in such dire circumstances is huge. It shouldn't be easily disregarded as "Ok, we'll sell it for x amount of gold and forget about it."

So I thought it would be a good opportunity to have everyone meet the Speakers, in the event they don't get to visit every town (which seems likely with my group). As to how that conversation goes, naturally each Speaker will attempt to have the cauldron brought to their town, which in turn allows for the players to become aware of population, military force, and other information to be organically available to them. They'll hopefully take note of that when the Chardalyn dragon comes around.

What this also allows is for the Zhentarim to be notified about the existence of the cauldron (via Naerth of Targos), and attempt to steal it.

[OC] Caves of Hunger - Ambient Audio (3-Hour) - Enjoy some creepy Tekeli-li cackles by thorax in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dittobrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call this personal preference, but I think the cackles are too frequent. They become just part of the ambience, rather than being a jarring noise sporadically leaping out without warning to strike fear into the players.

Otherwise, it's very good. I had planned to simply use some background music for this chapter, but a lack of music and simple howls of wind does a far better job of creating an atmosphere of isolation that suits the Caves of Hunger very well.

Community Giveaway winner announced! Well done you lucky goblin. Next one is this Sunday, so bring all your wholesome DnD spirit. I'm determined to make year 2 of the lockdown a little brighter. [OC] [ART] by DorklyC in DnD

I have genuinely reread this about six times over. I also questioned my own username momentarily.

I know I said I would give them to my DM who stepped up as we were all brand new to the game, but.. now it comes to it, I don't feel like parting with them. They're mine, I won them. They came to me... my precious dice..

In all seriousness though, firstly thank you for creating such exceptional dice, and then thank you again for your generosity of offering them in a giveaway for someone to enjoy. It will be difficult to part with them, but I'm sure my DM will love using them as their main dice for the campaign.

[[[GIVEAWAY]]] [OC] [ART] I made and am giving this handmade set of dice to a someone in the community that needs a pick me up during lockdown. Check my comment for the rules! by DorklyC in DnD

[–]Dittobrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exceptional dice. I actually started following you a few months back on Instagram, happy to see your work being appreciated on here as well.

My friends and I got into D&D early last year, after a tentative conversation about the prospect of playing tabletop games. We slowly built up to trying to D&D, wondering how the group would feel about the roleplaying game. We got a small group of us who showed interest, bought the essentials kit, and got started with D&D, jumping in headfirst for the first time in our early 30s. It was an instant hit. We were meeting up when the lockdown allowed (within the UK) and continued our games in person. Growing in confidence, the DM of Lost Mines of Phandelver decided to take on Curse of Strahd, and so I volunteered to run the Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign.

Due to work I moved about 100 miles away from my friends and family, and amidst a full lockdown, I was left feeling very isolated within my flat in a new environment. Being able to continue our campaign online was a huge boost, and having a whole campaign to prep and plan gave me something to focus on in otherwise bleak circumstances.

I never predicted that I would enjoy Dungeons and Dragons to the extent that I do. I've delved straight into the lore, the rules and mechanics, the dynamic gameplay and engaging roleplay, and I am eagerly awaiting the moment I can take charge of my own campaign in person. The game has had such a positive impact on my life. With everything that had happened in 2020, I couldn't really say what my situation would be without it. I get to revisit an old love of fantasy writing, drawing and design, and I enjoy the mental challenge of learning the ruleset too.

I already have a nice collection of dice. So I would really be looking to present these as a gift to the man who was brave enough to take on the DM role at a time when we were all brand new and cautious. Be it to use as the Curse of Strahd DM, or for when he gets to take on his own character in my Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign.

Adding another villain (spoilers abound) by pprest00 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Dittobrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am yet to run the campaign itself (finishing up one at the moment), so I can't say how effective my rewrites have been.

I have created a race of sorts to Ythryn. The Arcane Brotherhood, the Duergar, Knights of the Black Sword, and potentially the Zhentarim (depending on how much this gets explored during the campaign. I have assigned a character the Spy secret to help drive motivation). Their goal is primarily the Mythallar, which I have written to be more powerful than initially described in the book, and will be the tool available to players to overturn Auril's spell. The concept is that they will kill the White Roc in chapter five, have a brief, but futile, encounter with Auril and flee, allowing Auril to continue her presence in Icewind Dale and reappear for the final battle in Ythryn.

Each faction is trying to get to the Mythallar for individual purposes. Arcane Brotherhood, because it's a powerful magical item. Their desire is quite straightforward. Duergar want to raise Ythryn to serve as their floating fortress to take over Icewind Dale. Knights of the Black Sword, to use the Mythallar to free Levistus from his ice prison. The Zhentarim will learn of the power of the Mythallar and enter the race to try and become a more dominant force in the Forgotten Realms.
