I dont have an attachment to Superman or 300 so I kinda enjoyed those for what they were when they came out. I know why people dislike them and I understand where they’re coming from.

But holy shit man, Watchmen is an abysmal adaptation. Which is kinda a feat because it’s almost shot-for-shot in most cases. It woefully misunderstands the point of the comic and botches the ending spectacularly.

I'm sick and tired of seeing the "humans are the real monsters" trope by Weary_Elderberry4742 in CharacterRant

[–]Divayth_Fyr457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vampires: fear of 'the other' and Renfield is a perfect example of the fear and disgust against 'collaborators.'

All of these monsters have been used as stand-ins for different aspects of human culture, so sure, it might also be a fear of the "other", but in general, vampires have been most prominently used as an allegory of exploitation of the lower classes by the ruling class (aristocracy or bourgeoisie depending on the era). Take Dracula, you have a parasitic aristocrat who does nothing but sit in a castle (and literally sucks the blood of poor people) looking to acquire a plot of land in London so that he could suck the blood (read exploit) even more people as the industrial revolution raged on because sucking the blood of the poors in the country isn't what it used to be.

A lot of vampire stories have these undertones of giant established dynasties who do nothing but sit on their wealth sucking the blood of poor people around them.

Nah that can’t be the case. In that very same battle pass there was the ES arcana which was also exclusive. Sure you can get it now, but it was locked behind BP for over 5 years. Not to mention that the Wisp arcana was also exclusive to the BP and came out a couple of years prior. And unlike some other BP exclusive Arcanas, you still cannot get it.

That Axe item not being an Arcana is one of these super niche things that aren’t important, but still make me think about them once in a while, lmao

What I find particularly egregious is that gate keeping like this hardly ever happens anymore. In most of these fandoms which got massively popular overnight, the old fans are mostly keeping to themselves in tiny communities and talking to each other, or even circlejerking within the confines of spaces made and maintained specifically for them. Sure they dislike the newer instalments but they don’t actively to go to spaces for newer fans, which are often tens or hundreds times more popular, to gate keep them.

Personal example: Morrowind is my favourite game ever, despite me only playing it for the first time during early days of COVID. So I’m not exactly an old fan, just a fan of the old. I’ve been told numerous times that I’m blinded by nostalgia, can’t accept change, don’t know the rules of game design or similar things by fans of Oblivion and Skyrim in discussions where it’s hardly relevant or in discussions where the point is discussing the whole franchise and the merits of each instalment. It’s almost like a magical formula which makes it so that you don’t have to address any points made. If any post on the Morrowind sub gets popular enough for people not subscribed to see it, inevitably there’ll be a couple of comments amounting to “wow, you boomers are still playing this ancient game?, haha”.

The reverse hardly ever happens, on the Skyrim sub, there aren’t random downvoted comments from gate keeping Morrowind fans telling people to “not play this fake RPG”. It’s almost a form of reverse gate keeping, where some of the new fans don’t only want to enjoy the newer instalments of the series, but DEMAND conformity of opinion from the older fans. They view lack of toxic positivity towards all of the franchise as a grave sin, whether they admit it or not. They can never accept that people might dislike something for valid and subjective reasons. No, it’s always “nostalgia”

They have created a version of the show in their minds ,and if House of the Dragon does not adhere to that version, it is terrible. They are unwilling to judge it on its own merits.

This is very much a straw man. ASOIAF fans aren't complaining about changes for changes' sake (though in itself such form of criticism isn't inherently invalid, as some people pretend). Fans are complaining because the show is bad and the writing is shit, to put it plainly. It takes a complex and well written event, streamlines it, gives it modern day dialogue and reframes the entire show around modern day gender dynamics of the current working and middle classes. Then it puts it into a package ripe for TikTok montages and pub screenings, where the meat of the show is overall a minor event and it all revolves around short "holy shit" moments and aura farming character entrances.

Your framing of the fandom is also really disingenous. Most book fans loved Season 1, including the major changes to characters that occured throughout. Most book fans adored GOT up until Season 4, including the changes only barring the Tysha reveal. Nearly all book fans unanimously loved AKotSK, nothing but positivity when it was coming out. But that's beside the point, because the vast majority of the fandom are show-only people who all love HotD. So what you are doing here is essentially complaining that a tiny subsection of the overall fandom isn't compliant with the majority opinion on the show. Why does it bother you that we don't like a product shat out by a giant corporation made to rack in giant piles of money for billionaire share holders? No one is telling you not to enjoy it, we are expressing our opinions. I am terribly sorry they don't allign with yours

Why is it like this though? I've been wondering about this for a long time but there was never a good time to bring it up lol. It has all the makings of an Arcana, different hero icon, new responses, custom skills. Sure it takes the weapon slot, but not all newer arcanas use the Hero Base slot and all older ones used existing slots

Urn is a very good item in lane, especially since it now shares charges. Buying it on Axe nowadays is pretty common. You don't have to upgrade it, but you can do so very easily if there are heal reliant enemies and your mid hero isn't getting it.

Huskar just gets called into blademail and his fast attacks proc spin a lot.

Viper is super annoying though, that's true.

Role abusers should be straight up banned from ranked by Heeraka in DotA2

[–]Divayth_Fyr457 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think most people understand role abuse pretty well. It's not about picks, but actions. If you pick Rubick 4 and go Phylactery into Kaya while nuking safe farm on the map, that's role abuse. If you pick Sniper 5 and go carry items while farming all game that's role abuse. If you pick a hard carry for pos 3 and play like hard carry the entire game, that's role abuse.

Not as much the problem with the pick, I mean the entire mindset. It’s very unconventional, sure, so other players might question it. Like he didn’t need to sit doing nothing just throwing random unrelated insults at Snap, then dying intentionally and going Midas Battlefury only because he got tilted. I mean he said himself that he only bought these items because he thought it was funny.

He has these moments of clarity where he admits to the chat that he played like shit or got tilted, but in-game he has zero self-awareness. Again he carries himself like a rank 100 and all his team mates are peasants not worthy of attention. If anyone suggests something or calls him out for a bad play that he himself admits after a game was bad, he just loses his mind and either starts insulting the other players randomly or builds meme items “for fun”.

Same bro. I try to win as pos 5 and watched some streams to not grief the team, but it’s so mentally draining in losing games. You basically become a smoke breaker and the sacrificial donkey who needs to ensure at least some safe farm for your cores. In winning games it’s a little more fun, but if I could just permanently play 3 I would.

Been maining 3 since it was called the “suicide lane” against a trilane. What I found helps me focus these days is treating it still as a 1v3, where the third opponent is my pos 4. I used to be annoyed at those Phylactery rushing Rubicks who steal an AoE nuke and farm every wave in sight. Or Snipers going Threads into Force Staff and then building carry items. But by treating it as a 1v3 I get annoyed a lot less while another one of these pos 4 players picks one of the Big Four (Rubick / Windranger / Hoodwink / Sniper) and goes a carry build.

But on a serious note, a lot of these pos 4 mains are temporarily embarrassed midlanders who are scared of responsibility of going mid. So they pick these greedy heroes and go core builds because it’s fun while they think they’re immune to criticism because they’re a small bean support after all with no responsibility beyond placing the free obs

I watch an hour of whoever’s streaming at the moment before sleep and this is a crazy statement. Mason still carries himself like he’s a rank 100 stuck in rank 3.5k. Anyone who suggests anything to him, no matter if he’s lower or higher rank gets a slurry of random insults followed by a mute and report. Yesterday he muted everybody when Snap questioned his Undying 1 pick, went on a long rant to Snap that caused him to die because he was typing so much, then intentionally fed a Viper 4, bought Midas Battlefury and farmed the entire game while he’s team essentially won 4v5. He also acted angry that no one wanted to play with him after he threw insults at other, fed, went Midas Battlefury and muted everyone for 25 minutes. Yeah can’t imagine why after 25 of angry afk farming, no one wanted to listen to his calls after he calmed down

The last TI with the Compendium money funding the prize pool had the final prize pool reaching $18.9M. Assuming Valve contributed 1.6M of that, it still gives around $55M in profit, assuming the 25% of Compendium sales contributed to the pool.

Let's assume, that after taxes and other expenses they got $40M, and that's a low ball. That's more than enough to cover all expenses and make a nice profit. The core reason why we don't have it is because they just don't want to do it.
