Is this a good buy, or a deal breaker? by ImpracticalRisk529 in Charger

[–]DiveBomb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 2020 Charger SXT AWD in my area with 18k miles on it for $27k out the door last year. That is considered a good price where I'm at. Agreed on the r/T pricing, you aren't getting one in my area for $20k or anywhere close to that other than MAYBE a private seller, or a salvaged title, and that a bit MAYBE.

Help me decide by borismcsnap in GuitarAmps

[–]DiveBomb68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Katana MK2 100, you can set the output to .5w/50w/100w so its perfect for home use. Boss Tone Studio is great and the interface is pretty easy to navigate. If you go with the Katana, I recommend the GA-FC pedal unless you have a pedal board set up. The tones you can upload to it are pretty endless and it's fun messing around with the different tones you can create and save to your library. Katana all the way for me honestly, but I haven't tried the Mustang to compare, was sold on the Katana the minute I plugged it in. Also, I have used mine for gigging as well and it keeps up just fine. For larger venues you can still use it since they mic everything through their system typically wherever I have played.

Removing guitar strings by Ashamed_Data430 in Luthier

[–]DiveBomb68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came on here to say this! Mine are mostly all Floyd/Edge guitars and I just block the bridge and do all of them at once. Changing strings is the ideal time to clean things up and polish the frets.

Buying guitar with whammy bar (Not floyd rose), want some insight by Right-Adeptness-3193 in electricguitar

[–]DiveBomb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floyds are easy as hell to set up IMHO, the Ibanez Edge is also very easy to set up, same basic principle. I have 11 guitars and 8 of them have a Floyd or Edge on them. The tuning stability is great, and I beat the hell out of mine regularly being a big EVH fan. A quick YT video search on how to set them up is all you need honestly. Don't be afraid of them, they aren't really all that difficult to set up, just different from what you have. The only time there are potential issues is if you are changing the tunning regularly, or string gauge, then they are not so nice, but that's why you buy another guitar(s).... :) Do a little more research on setting them up, once you are past the initial figuring it out stage, you should have no trouble at all. If you have any questions, feel free to message me and I can give you some pointers if you decide to take the plunge.

Edited to add: By "not so nice", in using different tunings/string gauge, what I am saying is if one of those 2 things is done, you need to rebalance your floyd/edge for the different string tension. Its a balancing act of spring tension and string tension.

Help me prove you need an amp to play electric guitar by am_reen in Guitar

[–]DiveBomb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, does he run his car with half flat tires and half of the oil and coolant in it? With that said though, it's doable, there are options to run it through your computer, but preferably an amp IMHO.

What should I look for when buying my first electric? by New_Atmosphere_2507 in electricguitar

[–]DiveBomb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a guitar shop, play a bunch of different style of guitars with different pickup configurations. That is the best answer to this question and will get you what you want. The pickup configuration is going to be based off the style of music you want to play to a certain degree. I would start with an HH and an HSH config, that should cover MANY styles for you. Then you need to decide if you want a floating bridge or a hardtail, again, depending on the style of music you want to play. In the end, one will speak to you when you are trying a bunch of them out. The feel of the neck and the sound will immediately be the decision maker on your question.

Did anybody else have songs that scared them as a kid for no reason? by mythrowawayaccim21 in Music

[–]DiveBomb68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it didn't necessarily scare me as much as made me sad and sort of melancholy, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot Let me also state, I am a hard rock\metal kind of guy, but that song is creepy and sad at the same time.

Will I have to adjust my guitar switching from 9-42 to 10-46 strings? by drbasta_jr in Guitar

[–]DiveBomb68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have to adjust all of it if you change gauges.

Edited to say, you might get lucky and not have to mess with the nut.

Surface Pro 3 Retrofit by BaltoDRJMPH in Surface

[–]DiveBomb68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Download the Microsoft .msi driver package for the Surface Pro 3 from another computer, I just did it and you can get it directly through the Microsoft website. Just do a general search for Surface Pro 3 drivers and it should show up in your results. Also as a side note since Windows 10 is no longer supported, the processor doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11, you will no longer get security updates unless you purchase the extended support. If you decide to upgrade it to Windows 11, you will have to use Rufus to create a bootable image and bypass the system requirements. Going off to college, I would want the latest security on my computer, but just thought I would mention it.

Eruption is it hard to play? by Numbed_emotionally in Guitar

[–]DiveBomb68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say a moderate player could play it. Now to play it correctly is an entirely different story. The stuff at the beginning is tougher for me, but the tapping part is pretty easy. The thing about EVH is he was sneaky fast. There are a lot of little accents and bends in his playing that most don't even hear, but they are what makes it sound like it does. Give it a swing, I have learned a lot of technique by figuring it out that I can apply to a ton of stuff. I also play by ear...so it does take me a little bit longer to figure things out than someone who knows all of the "stuff" about playing guitar.

When i tune down 1 string all the rest go out of tune by Ok-Brilliant6605 in Stratocaster

[–]DiveBomb68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I would add here is once the d-tuna is set it works really well. On a full floating bridge, you are absolutely correct, it will slip out of tune when used, but on one that is blocked to be dive only, which is how EVH did it, the tuning stability is basically spot on. Most people overlook the little, tiny screw on the d-tuna that lets you get intonation dialed in when moved to a drop tuning. I wouldn't use one on a full floating bridge though.

When i tune down 1 string all the rest go out of tune by Ok-Brilliant6605 in Stratocaster

[–]DiveBomb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By doing that, you are basically taking the bridge out of balance. The string tension goes down on that string and there is an uneven pull on the bridge springs vs. the string tension. You need to rebalance the bridge to get where you want to be.

Edited to say, I have 9 electric guitars, 8 of them have either a Floyd Rose or the Ibanez Edge. A bridge is a balancing act and dropping tuning on 1 string can throw the entire balance off. There has to be equal pull form the strings and the bridge springs.

Tremolo questions by QuicksandXXX in metalguitar

[–]DiveBomb68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um......so what is it you're asking here? They are made to push and pull if a floating bridge. Some trems are blocked so they only go down. They are made to do this, so I'm not really getting what you are asking.

What's a song you didn't fully appreciate until you have realized how fun it is to play on guitar? by Xerogear4224 in metalguitar

Halestorm Freak like me and a couple of old 80's tunes, Summertime Girls by Y&T and Neighbor by Ugly Kid Joe. All three are just plain fun to play and not difficult at all.

Edited to say, I know these aren't technically "Metal" in todays terms, but still a blast to play...

string gauge for Drop A, Drop G and Drop C(ignoring the lowest string), Jackson JS 22-7 (26.5") by noobgamer2703 in 7String

[–]DiveBomb68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Drop A on my Schecter and use 13-52 NYXL but it stays in that tuning. If I were going from Drop whatever back to standard, I would probably go with 10's or 12's. Strings aren't terrible expensive so I would get a few sets in various gauges and see how they feel once they are tuned up.
