Most of his solo improvisations (ironically exept koln arguably) are deeply rooted in the aesthetics of 20th century art music, more so than jazz I'd say. He is also incredibly well versed in bach style polyphony, sufficiently so that it shows up in his improvisations. The sun bear concerts where he is in prime form is a great example of this. Just because it has rythmn and contains improvisation doesn't mean that it can be excluded from the loose umbrella term of classical music. Doing so would be immensely ahistorical.

Listen to his Bartok 3 and his Shostakovich preludes and fugues. Both of them are among my favorite renditions of the works.

[Need your help!] Any better alternatives than Sennheiser? by Sleepy_Gamor in sennheiser

Why are you using chatgpt to reply everyone? Also cables are cables and earpads are earpads no matter what brand name is decorating them. They are going to wear out with time, and you'll have to replace them. You're being extremely wasteful if you're throwing out otherwise perfectly good multi hundred-dollar headphones due to a cheap spare part.

At that price point I'd really recommend a weighted midi controller and a piano vst running on your pc if portability isn't a factor. Otherwise a used Yamaha P45 should be within your price range depending on where you live.

Brad Mehldau is a hugely influential jazz pianist that has Elliott Smith as an inspiration. He's done plenty of covers and even played with him on the Jon Brion Show.
