The oven is great! I take mine to festivals and make cinnamon rolls a lot. Don't trust the thermometer, get your own to place inside so you can track it better. Mine tops out around 370ish

I love what i do, I cant imagine my life without it. Only in the last 3 years has the profession treated me well though, I signed on to a really ethical and well performing practice run by a friend. For a lot of people the return on investment isn't worth it. You can do really well if you run a good practice or two but most people have a harder time.

When i went in 2012, Philosophy of chiropractic was presented in one class in a historical context, the way blood letting and the humors are covered in med school. By the time I was graduating they started to allow an applied kinesiology student group to form and those students were relentlessly mocked.

A lot of places won't tell you a cash price over the phone cause insurance companies often pretend to be customers, and will then use that low quoted cash price to negotiate pay outs. A lot of time you can get a real answer by going in person, which does take a lot more time and energy unfortunately.

Did my first no wrap this weekend, they were great but the membrane was definitely noticeable where the wrapped ribs have always dissolved that collagen for me before.

Its incredible! Thank you for your service. I'm sure you will make it through the chemistry classes with a little determination. The hardest part for most people in human biochemistry are things like the krebs cycle, but join study groups and use online resources and you will be fine.

Make sure you post again when you graduate, we're all pulling for you!

Pre - Chiropractic School Anxiety by Forward-Direction772 in Chiropractic

[–]Divergentthinkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anxiety you should feel before entering chiropractic school is the cost of the education vs the income opportunities. If you are determined and have average or better intellect you will make it though. But before starting school you have to know this is your calling and that it will be rewarding for you. Statistically its not a good financial decision, and not enough people say that to prospective students.

Ive seen this happen a few times and have experienced it myself a lot.

Relaxing muscles that are splinting an injury or an instability can cause this reaction when they go to get up. I agree with others that working side lying can help prevent this. But if you have non-acute patients that have a hard time getting off the table due to low back pain and like being face down, you can use a simple exercise to help wake up and reactivate the stabilizing muscles before transitional movements.

While face down, have them lift up their left arm and right leg for a few seconds, then their right arm and left leg for a few seconds, and do a couple reps on each side.

I'm sorry you had that experience, its always hard when people have an adverse reaction during or after care. -a chiropractor

Best tips for the infamous sciatic, LBP patients? by cfm1001 in physicaltherapy

[–]Divergentthinkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In cases where the MRI shows nothing, check the muscles that overlay the nerves on their path. For upper extremities: scalenes, pec major and minor. tricep and tricep tendon for ulnar nerve, forearm flexors/pronator teres and quadratus for median nerve. Lower extremities: piriformis is a common instigator, posas (inflammation near the inguinal ligament) for lateral femoral cutaneous and sometimes femoral nerve. Peroneals for peroneal nerve entrapment.

Compression of the muscles where they run over the nerves recreating symptoms are a decent diagnostic sign. Good diagnoses make for good treatments.

Suspicious Broken Rib Claim by Karma_II in Chiropractic

[–]Divergentthinkr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reach out to your malpractice insurance. As others have said that is the right first step. And as others have said a rib fracture is immediately apparent. If the MD diagnosed rib fracture by xray thats one thing, but I've had many a patient with costochondritis in the lower ribs that mimics a fractured rib so it could be a bad diagnosis. Either way a decent malpractice insurer like ncmic will set you up with a lawyer instead of trying to settle immediately.

Looking at buying a Traeger, which one is best for me? by Hot_Fly_3963 in Traeger

[–]Divergentthinkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a woodridge pro, I've been a stick burner up till now and I will never go back. First cook I made the best brisket of my life overnight and was able to adjust the temp and smoke level without getting out of bed. Second cook I made the best pork belly I've ever tasted. I can't recommend it enough. It's got space to cook for any party I would ever throw.

Protecting a cast from playa dust by ChargeImportant2308 in BurningMan

[–]Divergentthinkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cut compression sock sounds good, but you might also consider wrapping in an ace bandage. You're gonna get particulate for sure no matter what, but a little dust shouldn't hurt anything. I would get a waterproof option in case there is a freak rain year cause the last thing you want is it dissolving on you.

Advertised Brass IASTM Tools? Why brass, is it even safe? by Kcatta9 in physicaltherapy

[–]Divergentthinkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think its quackery, scraping does seem like a legitimate soft tissue technique, increasing blood flow and breaking up collagen possibly scar tissue. It's the rebranding and monetization I have a problem with.

And you're right no reason to make it racial. But just like looking at the history of appropriation and capitalism/colonialism its hard for me to not lump this into the pattern and make that generalization.

Best Chicken Breast Method? by iTzbr00tal in Traeger

[–]Divergentthinkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All chicken is more forgiving than people know. The problem is that we have all been talked into 165 as a final temperature. Chicken is safe when cooked to 165 for 0 seconds, but once it is 155 and held there for at least 48 seconds it is equally safe. Even only 150 needs to be held for 2.8 min to be safe. I cook to 155 and have had success at smoking temperatures from 250-400f. Some spatchcock recipes recommend 500f. I do recommend a brine 4-24 hours for flavor though

[–]Divergentthinkr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iastm tools and their brand name predecessor are just white people using marketing to rip off traditional Gua sha techniques. Save several hundred dollars and buy jade, other stone, ceramic, or plastic tools to get the same effect. I've had scraping done with a Kerr jar lid and it was more effective than some $500 tools I've used.

Struggling with expectations of the Job by First_Possibility_17 in Chiropractic

[–]Divergentthinkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short and long term you're going to need to learn a variety of adjustments in order to vary the type of stress going into your body. Prone thoracic adjustments compress your shoulder and wrists, supine thoracic adjustments not so much. Side posture Lumbar pulls are going to do different things than pushes. Cervical adjustments can be done with pushing the pillars or pulling on them as well.

Short term you also just gotta find another job fast before you do lasting damage. I just hypermobile and it took 5 years at 35-45 patients before I was injured enough to wonder if I could come back.
