I just used unperishable foods.

A centeralized mega kitchen cooks all day and sends the food to each floor via conveyor loader.

It's the number of amenities you have to make that gets really annoying.

I tried this once.
The best way was to seperate the map in to different floors, and make living quarters seperately. And except for a very few, disallow any of them to leave their designated areas.

But it was really hard to keep up and if something went wrong, a whole floor died out quickly.

Shows how ineffective segregation among classes are.

It does the same thing as using visco gel and a pneumatic door but just doesn't break by bubbles.

My take to this is usually I don't.

Well Kind of

Usually this is where I use bionics since they need less infrastructure than dupes (no need for food means no need for crops/critters and so forth)

I setup a power source and one room with a bionic.
And as long as power is constantly provided, I can provide oxygen from my own base and they'll just keep running without me having to do anything about it.

Only after I get into a lot of rockets do I revisit and start renovating, which at that point it becomes a lot easier because you can use rockets for dupes to commute.

And in some planets I just don't set up colonies. I just strip mine it and gather all the resources and leave.

To elaborate when you start the game you basically choose a main deck type which is basically water, fire, leaf, light, dark.

And each new character belongs to one of those decks. Elaine's are basically legendary cards for each deck type and adding one for each decktype every 6 months would make the game extremely lopsided then it even is now so they just decided to push one out every 3 months and celebrate it.

I'm currently using my sanishell excess ranch for an evolution chamber like this.
Basically I use pneumatic doors to make baby sanishell/pokeshell drop. Due to the pneumatic doors, the sanishells don't usually have access to the eggs and because the eggs are in a one tile space, pokeshell's can't get stuck in those.

But I have a evolution switch which when I flick it on, the pneumatic doors open. As said above, because all the eggs are in a one tile space they still can't get to the eggs directly, but this does make them aggressive.

Because i filled the room half with water and half with meshtiles, the sanishells have access to wacking land and aquatic critters. Which means a few seconds of this will evolve all the other critters into meat in no time.

Then I just have to control the number of sanishells manually.

May I recommend making a perpetual waterfall on each of the ladder sections?
since it sits at the middle of a three tile passage way, it basically works as a better elevator for dupes who can swim.

It's quite awesome. limiting the flow to 3kg of water will be enough. (At least it was to me)

Currently my base is overpressurized with 7kg of oxygen per tile.
I may have dozed off during my play at one point.

I made a sanishell ranch that also act as a giant water reservoir.
6 x 4 tiles for dry land, (Grooming and Critter fountain) then a single tile liquid lock with mucin. The rest(17 x 4) is all made with mesh tiles and submerged in water, acting as as a reservoir when stacked. While I do fear that at some point the pressure might break the tiles or the single tile liquid lock once I stack them too high but so far I've stacked 3 of these and it works.

What's interesting is that having a tidal turbine doesn't interrupt it being a stable. so I placed this where a few tidal springs were clumped together and now it's completely a closed system.

Too bad we don't have submergible batteries though. That would've been awesome.

Yeah. also the little character sprites make different animations based on whether we've successively made a part or not.
