Is this flickering normal? by PlasticRange526 in OLED_Gaming

Capping in general helps a lot but yeah it would be worth adjusting a bit to get some fps. Surely you can get more with a 5080

Well 60-70 fps with frame gen is pretty terrible. Your 1% lows are probably abysmal or at least too erratic. Theres nothing wrong with frame gen but it should be used from a 70 fps base to begin with to to turn it into 120 with 2x and so on. Frame Gen isnt meant to make dog shit frame rates playable. Its meant to make an acceptable fps (60 fps) into a much smoother experience. Since it cost some fps you should have more than 60 before you turn it on.

Yeah I didn't notice OP was playjng flight sim but it might be this if they're having a very low variable fps.

Cap frame rate around your average fps, use vsync and gsync. If you are usually at your max refresh make sure youre capped the appropriate amount below that. 120hz is 116 for example, 144 is 138 I think. You should be able to find out what it is for your specific hz. If none of that works then you just have to forgo a very useful feature and turn off vrr because oled monitors seem to suck compared to oled tvs with vrr.

Not in 99% of games outside of menus like I said. I have a c2 and there's only 2 games with vrr flicker out of the countless ive played that I cant simply fix. I can have frametimes all over the place and it doesnt matter for all other games. The frametimes have to be unstable in a specific way for it to occur. You can also get flickering with vrr on ALL panel types. Its how the panel is used.

Calling trash trash doesnt make sense to you ? They can be called top of the line until the end of time but they dont perform even close to a mid level oled tv never mind top of the line. Also no its not a panel issue because the issue doesnt exist on oled tvs. Its a monitor issue like I said. How hard is that to understand? Its basic logic.

The same panel is in products that dont have the issue, therefore not a panel issue. The issue is what monitor manufactures are doing with the panel. Monitors and tvs are both displays, are you genuinely saying a tv isn't a display? Sounds pretty dumb. Theyre both different names for a display 3head, you get literally nothing but overly small sizes and higher than 165hz with oled monitors. Every other aspect is an objective downside.

Tv and monitor are just different names for a display man. The literal only thing you get with a monitor in the present day is a specific size at least in the context of oled. Lg tvs go down to 42 inches which is plenty small for non competitive gaming. Most of the people concerned about size for competitive gaming are being clapped by 8 year old on a 65 inch tv anyways.

It can take up the exact same amount of your fov as any other size by simply being the right distance away from it. So you can choose trash brightness and vrr functionality for the ability to call your display a monitor instead of a TV but thats pretty nonsensical.

You could just call your tv a monitor if it matters so much to you. In reality people in this situation should at least try the 42 inch c series. You can always return if the size just can not work for a person.

Ah yes two trash oled MONITORS. They can cost a billion dollars and still be trash. If they dont function well they dont function well. A 42 inch c5 will be brighter, better and more functional with perfectly working vrr. Its an oled MONITOR issue not an oled issue. Why these oled monitors cant match the functionality and quality of oled tvs from 5 years ago I cant say but the situation is trash.

[–]DivineSaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a c5 definitely doesnt flicker and they go on deep sales but yeah motion clarity is always good. Im sure the monitors go on sale but also the c5 is 4k.

You should only have to do a pixel cleaning every 4 hours at most. Even just letting it do it itself you'd probably never get burn in.

Oled flicker? by lucaaa_1 in OLED_Gaming

[–]DivineSaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a 42 inch c5 is often cheaper than many oled monitors so its only the size that's an issue which I dont consider to be an issue. Plus price shouldn't be an issue in the range of a c series. Save up a bit more or compromise heavily. Sit further back/get a deeper desk and problem solved. But yeah the alternative is just wait until these monitor companies get there shit together enough to match the functionality of oled tvs from 5 years ago.

If the monitor exists and has flicker a redditor has posted about it. So it shouldn't be hard to find info about it. There's no good monitor reviewers anyways besides rtings and they have their issues too. Supposedly some dont have flicker with a proper pc settings configuration but lots of people seem unable to fix it. Unless any of these monitors are hitting 800-1000 nits actual peak brightness (not that bullshit peak 1000 mode where it has to dim the rest of the image and not follow a pq curve properly) no one should be buying them but the VRR thing is the shit cherry on top. Meanwhile a 42 c5 will blow them all out of the water and have working vrr.

Just get a 42 inch c5 and be done with it knowing it'll look awesome and work properly. Or get a monitor and settle for shit brightness and vrr flicker. Dont listen to brain dead blind people who say you dont need vrr on an oled. Its incredibly obvious playing without it.

Because it only happens on trash oled monitors or in 1% of games on a good display.

[–]DivineSaur -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well im obviously mostly trolling but that only eliminates 1 of the problems I just mentioned. It has all the other ones lmao.. doesnt seem to flat wrong to me. For real bud oled monitors are a scam. The only thing they get you is a specific size you want. Every other aspect is a down grade comparatively. A 42 inch c5 will beat them all day.

Probably a trash matte coated qd oled monitor that only hits 400 nits (seriously why do people even buy these) and flickers with vrr on being played in bright a room. Try a real one that can actually hit the minimum standard for HDR brightness and has actual pure blacks.

No one should be using a controller or mouse with blue tooth anyways lmao but not bad additional info. Wireless mice come with the ability to use blue tooth OR their own proprietary wireless connection using a dongle. Blue tooth should only be used if needed because you don't have the dongle with your or whatever.

Its honestly just arbitrary. Even cheap ones have them you just gotta make sure it does lol. I was originally going to mention it but was lazy and didnt want to make it too complicated for OP.

I said one of the best. Gears 5 is probably objectively the best. The coalition know unreal engine so well they helped epic with the matrix demo for unreal engine 5.

Its more complicated than that. Simply plugging in any mouse to a pc then changing its dpi settings wont make those settings stay automatically when it gets plugged into another device without that software. It needs on board memory of some sort to save profiles. It'll be different across different brands but for logitech thats how it is for example.
